| Sakura goes under the knife today Sakura's spaying is today. We are about to leave to drop her off at the vet's. The vet said the surgery will take place about 11:00 to 12:30 and that they will call me as soon as she is out of surgery and when she can be picked up. She will be able to go home today too is that normal? I'm so nervous! I'm so glad my boss said I didn't have to go in today I would be a nervous wreck! I know I have to keep her still and all after she gets home but do they send any pain meds home with them afterwards. They said I could pay for a pain shot that would last for about 12 hours. I was just wondering. |

In fact, with Lil Bit we had dropped her off in the morning and they said she would be ready to pick up around 4pm. Around 2 pm they called and said we could pick her up. She was fine and she was barking up a storm - they nicknamed her "the mouth of the south" - she was, naturally, just telling them she wanted to come home.

| I have always 'opted' for the pain shot and pain meds to bring home. Why this is an option is still not clear to me...pain control should be standard. Also, yes, she needs to come home with you today. Most vets do not have anyone there overnight so she would just be in her 'crate' alone all night anyway. Good luck!! Piper gets spayed Monday and I am sure I will be on pins and needles all day!

| My vet gives the dog a pain medication at the hospital that is supposed to last for 48 hours. So far I haven't had any problems with any of my dogs. She;ll be just fine and will most likely sleep for about 12 hours after she comes home. I know mine did. |

| Thanks for the replies! I thought it was weird that they said I could opt for the shot. I would think they would give them something to automatically. The vet just called and told me she was out of surgery and already almost awake. Her bloodwork was fine and they already gave her the shot for the pain. And that she can be picked up after 3:30. I can't wait to have my baby back the house is so quiet without her. |
