YT Addict | ? ? ? ? taped Hazels ears up ? ? ? ? HI!!! one of the user sent me this link to get Hazel's ears to stand up. i did everything they said. shes all taped up now, and i must say she knows something is up there and she is NOT happy about it! shes scratching and rubbing her ears against everything trying to get it off. hopefully she'll get used to it Ears Check the Ear Channel first, if there is any offensive odors, redness, or a reddish brown discharge, have your Vet look at them. All could be signs of infection, and need to be treated if so. If there is hair in the channel, remove it by pulling it out with your fingers. Whether the hair is oily or not, using a plucking powder lightly will make it much easier to do. Note: Pull quickly, not slow. Now for the outer ear you will use the Pocket Pro Wahl Clippers. Clip the excess hair on the inside of the ear leathers about 1/3rd way down. Then you'll clip the same amount on the back side but trimming the hair off in the shape of a V. With the Wahl clippers, it is even safe to go along the outer edge of the ear to finish it off neatly. http://www.yorkie.org/images/front_t.../back_trim.jpg Tapeing Ears For Down Ears The most important thing to encourage ears to stand upright is keeping the excess hair trimmed. But, if they are not up by 6-7 weeks of age they should be supported. This method will work even with older pups, it may just take a longer period of time. If you purchased your puppy, the ears should have been up prior. Cut three pieces of 2 inch masking tape in triangles, and lay them on top of one another. Use better quality tape, because the less expensive brands do not adhere as well. Place this so the adhesive side is next to the skin on the inter-ear leather. Next, cut a strip of tape approximately 3-4 inches long. This is centered on the "back side" of the ear, and the remainder is folded over the front, on top of your tape inserts. You may need to repeat this step, using two strips depending on ear length and weakness. Leave these in place, checking or replacing them every 2-3 days. Sometimes the ears will be up in the first 2-3 days, others can take weeks, and some may never stand correctly depending on the breeding and ear type. http://www.yorkie.org/images/taping-...s/taping-3.jpg http://www.yorkie.org/images/taping-...s/taping-5.jpg __________________ |

| I sometimes have to retape every couple of hours in the beginning. Eventually they leave it alone. |

| I had to tape Paris' ears today as well and she acts as though nothing is up there. I sure hope this works. She's 14 wks old and they have been floppy since I've gotten her. Sometimes the left one stands for a few hours, but the right one never stands. How old is your pup? |

Yeah, I trimmed her ears as well, no problem. Sounds like Hazel's ears will be standing in no time since it was only her tips. Paris' entire ear flops over. Oh well. If she keeps it on, I will remove the tape on friday just to see if progress has been made. Good luck to us. | |

| Well, Paris did not leave the tape on her ears until Friday like I planned, The tape cam off this morning, BUT after 2 1/2 days, her ears are UP!!!! They are HUGE, no wonder they didn't stand up on their own. LOL. How is Hazel doing? |

| I've taped Max's floppy ears for 2 consecutive days at a time for a bunch of times now. When I take the tape off, they stand up for an hour then flop. I'm going to wait until he's 15 weeks and try the tape again.

| Hazel sounds a lot like my Stormy! Stormy is a little over 9 weeks. I took her to the groomer yesterday and had them trim her ears for me and today she is going to the vet and I'm going to ask them if they will tape them for me. If not, I'll do it when we get home. But her ears are just floppy at the top too like you are describing Hazel's. Good luck and I hope she gets used to it soon!

| P.S. How much does Hazel weigh right now? She looks about the size of Stormy, but I can't find any clothes that fit her! And your Hazel looks so cute in her little outfits. Maybe you can give me some tips on where to get tiny clothes?

| I taped Stormy's today. I did the method where you fold them in half lengthwise and tape them together that way. Like this. She really didn't give me too much fuss about it. Only fiddled with them for a minute and has left them alone since.
