I have read of differences depending on whether which species is the father vs the mother. Not too long ago, I read about some hybrid dog breed, but I can't remember which breeds were involved. The site claimed that the offspring were completely different if the mother was one breed vs the father being that breed. I don't know if any of this is true though, usually mixed breed offspring in the same litter look so different. I think the father's breed comes first in the naming of a hybrid, for example a Morkie would have a father who was a Maltese, and a mother who was a yorkie, while a Yorktese would be a male Yorkie with a female Maltese. Mixed breed breeders usually don't keep good records and don't really keep in contact with puppy families to see how adults turned out, so I don't know if there's any real research on this.

| "Yeah, it's probably like, my most favorite animal." (Brownie pts for whoever catches that reference.) Seriously though. Yes, they exists and they are MASSIVE....much larger than a lion OR tiger. In lions, the female's genes control growth/size, in tigers, the male controls growth/size. Because they use the sex from each species that does NOT control growth, the darn animals grow to be HUGE. I totally thought a liger was a mythical animal. I thought it was a tiger with a unicorn horn. My world is falling apart over here.

| They are also breeding the zorse. zebra x horse. I dont know if they are sterile but to me they look like a small horse with zebra stripes on the rump and conformationally look more like the zebra. I only saw one picture of it so I dont know if they all look that way.

| well, I have to say that it is too bad that mixed breed dogs don't follow the horse/donkey theory and were born sterile. It would sure curtail the epidemic of mixes in our shelters and puppy mill of "designer dogs" if they could not reproduce.. Not saying it to be mean as I also have 2 mixes of my own (not MY breeding) Just saying that the OPs post made me think (and that in itself can be dangerous...lol)
