| Does your dog(s) yawn a lot? Every time we pick Toby up or love on him, he yawns..........and he doesn't just do it once, he does it several times while you are holding him unless he's sleeping. Just curious..........I was thinking maybe it's because he's nervous but he's always jumping up in our laps so you wouldn't think that would be the cause.

Dogs do not see approaches the same way we do. In his mind, coming to you is a very different thing than you approaching him. How big is he, btw? I've been told that "appeasement" behaviors are much more common in small dogs. Thor is super-submissive with me, even after almost two years. When he comes up to me he licks and smacks his lips like he just finished an ice cream cone. Anyway, it's probably not a big deal. Maybe rather than picking him up or petting him, give him a signal that you want him to come to you (pat your lap, etc).

Thanks for the informative response. Toby is 10 years old. I personally don't think it's a big deal. It's just something that was brought to my attention by my husband. Toby is definitely not a kisser or licker. I don't know if him being a rescue from a puppy mill has anything to do with it but even though he doesn't kiss or lick, he's an extremely devoted dog to me. He suffers from severe separation anxiety whenever I'm gone (except during the week when I'm at work - he's fine all day with my husband). But if I go somewhere of an evening or on the weekend, he goes nuts the entire time I'm gone. I've tried calming treats and Rescue Remedy. NOTHING is working on him. I guess I'm going to have to call the vet to see what can be done because we go camping often and when we are both away from the camper on our ATV's he is constantly jumping from window to window looking for us. By the time we get back he is a panting mess! LOL

| Roxie yawns a lot when she is in the car. I figured it has to do with being nervous.

| That could be. I don't think Toby yawns any more in the car than he does when he jumps in our laps.

Also look to see if this behaviour happens other times as well.
