| Karen. my Lady has been on Phenobarbital for over ten years. Don't panic that he is still having some seizures. It can take a little experimenting to find the correct dosage. Too much pheno can be very dangerous so vets like to start with a very conservative dose, then check levels, then tweak the dosage if necessary. Sometimes another anti-seizure medication is added for better control. Pheno alone didn't control Lady's seizures as much as we wanted so my vet added potassium bromide. The two together did the trick. Check with Max's vet, but I suspect he'll want to wait a few more weeks before checking pheno levels. |

The only side effect so far that I'm seeing is that he's eating like a bull. I'm trying to control that and I'm trying to be patient. Thanks again for your help.

| I just got off the phone with the LSU vet. I explained to her that Max is still having focal seizures but it seems like it's about 50-60% better. She is thrilled! She explained that sometimes it takes a bit longer, but it's known that phenobarbital may not help focal seizures that much as much as a more prominent seizure. Hopefully the meds will kick in a bit more, but this is such good news.

| Max and I are visiting LSU to get blood work done tomorrow to check the pheno levels. At this point I'd say he's about 75% better. It seems that the side effects of the meds have decreased (huge appetite, drinking a lot). I'm hoping for a good visit and no doggy sickness in the car. Max doesn't seem to do too well in the car. wow, i just realized my last post says he 50-60% percent better. That's a good improvement to now
