We had already discussed getting another dog after Carmen (their dog) passed away last summer. My mom considered it, but really didn't have time for another puppy, and she works sooo much now with owning a hair salon, it'd be impossible. We looked at a few older rescues but my mom decided against it, simply because she didn't have the time and she's not the biggest dog person in the world anyways, as much as she loved Carmen. That would be ideal... them getting a dog so Jackson has a buddy but when I'm traveling, visiting family members homes, etc, Jackson would be only responsibility. But I doubt it will happen. Thanks for all your posts in this thread, every one of you helped me out. I dunno why this decision was so hard but I definitely made the right one. Here's Carmen and my stepdad... She was only 4yrs old :( |

I think you are making a mature decision by waiting, especially since it's so hard and tempting! You will know when you are ready and it's the right time! |
Aw, I was expecting to open this thread and see pictures of a new doggie! That being said, I don't think there's a wrong decision here. You know? If you do end up getting this dog, I think you'll be great with two, and if you wait, then there's another dog out there who is going to get a wonderful family when you are ready. |
You and I are on the exact same boat. I so want another dog, a little brother for Kaji to have around when I'm off at work. But that thought alone tears me apart. I'd love to see two little dogs running around having fun, and knowing that they'll be each others companion when I can't. But, traveling is much easier with one. I didn't travel much in the past but I really want to start doing it now. Where ever my travels take me, I want Kaji to go too. Plus, I think Kaji would be happier with a little sister, but I just love the boys and want another little male around. I'm starting to think the best solution to this would be to skip on another dog all together and move closer to Adi-and-Missy. Missy and Kaji could stay together during the day, and I'd still have the one dog responsibility. BUT... I still want another dog. :p We're crazy aren't we Brit? |

Well, I was checking to see what your decision was. Sounds like you made the right one for you at this time. Stop looking at petfinder or you will be going through this again in another month! |

You sound like one smart girl.:) You have so many years ahead of you for a second dog. As far as a playmate, like you said their are ways for Jackson to play with other dogs. You never know what may come in your life as you are so young.... a guy, marriage, children?! As you know a dog if you are lucky can live 20 years or more. Trust me you will one day have another dog and he or she will be one lucky little doggy! |
