| Priorities and Animals I found this article in the newspaper and thought it was so well written with her point clearly being made, I thought I'd share with you all. Dear Editor, On July 8 in Paris, Texas a backyard dachshund breeder came to the shelter and dumped 20 adult dachshunds. She had used them in her breeding ill and now they were no longer producing for her. She was getting far too many "defective" puppies that she could not sell. The defective puppies are thrown into the rain barrel to drown and the useless adults are surrendered to the shelter. Because these poor dogs have never known human love (imagine that, living your entire life in a wire cage) they were afraid of people, aggresive, sick and ultimately the shelter decided to gas them to death the next morning. But hey, did you hear?? LeBron James is going to play in Miami. Last week in Summit, a kitten was found and brought to the Summit Post Office. Its ear had been shot off. A good Samaritan offered to help this kitten and one of our dedicated volunteers from the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley took it upon herself to help arrange for veterinary care. A fluffy of e-mails went out and the kitten was seen and treated by the Howes Cave Animal Hospital. By the time he arrived at the clinic his ear had fallen off. He, Merlin, was given antibiotics and sent home with his new owner. Sadly, the next day Merlin died. He at least knew human love and compassion. But hey, not to worry, don't you know?? LeBron is going to win a championship for Miami. In Troy, a woman was arrested for abondoning her two dogs in her apartment. She simply left them there after she was evicted. They were left in the apartment with no food and water for close to two weeks in 90 degree heat. Animal Control was called and the dogs were taken immediatly to a local veterinarian. One of the dogs had been injured and suffered paralysis in its hind legs and is now in a dog cart. She had been charged previously in Syracuse with over 90 counts of animal cruelty. But don't get depressed, LeBron James has gone to Miami and everything is right with the world. In March a tiny dachshund, Lily, was placed in a box and it was taped shut. A person placed her in that box on the side of the road in Carlisle and she spent hours and hours and hours in that cold box with no food or water. She was found by a good Samaritan David Gregory and ultimatly she found her way to our home and our hearts. But don't fret, King James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh will save the world. For the last 48 hours there has been an unending, constant drone of where will LeBron go?? What will LeBron do?? Wouldn't it be greaat if one day we're that worried about our unwanted and unloved dogs and cats?? Perhaps Micael Vick has the answer. Cynthia West
