Yorkie Yakker | Height & Weight of Yorkies..... Can anyone tell me the standard for height and weight of a registered yorkie? Recently we acquired a yorkie that someone had gotten from a breeder in California...paid $1700.00 for it....this dog is nuts and I'm sure he is not a true yorkie as he is three times the size of my yorkies.....and did I mention nuts? |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | This is what the AKC standard says: Weight Must not exceed seven pounds. American Kennel Club - Yorkshire Terrier However, you will find on here that many of us have yorkies that are much larger than the breed standard. I can't say anything about him being nuts, mine are tearing through the house at top speed right now...

| Keep in mind the Standard is written for those dogs that are being bred and shown. However, yorkies come in all different sizes; some a bit smaller and then some a bit larger.

Yorkie Yakker | My Meaning of Nuts.. This guy is the size of a small cocker spaniel. My other two are small, one being TINY. This poor guy just does not know what to do with himself, it's clearly evident that he has spent most of his life in a kennel, he can't calm down ever unless I put him in his kennel. He climbs, he climbed up the front of our bookshelves and when I went to calmly get him he just went nuts, clambering even harder to get to the top, which was clear at the ceiling! He made it and then fell off, thank god into my arms! He also fell behind the tv after climbing the wall and lodging behind it. He's just out of control and goes at top speed for hours on end. I'm not sure what to do with him as it's getting dangerous. I don't dare let him out with my other two as he just runs rough shod over them and could hurt them bad. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Yorkie Yakker | We do walk him, from the start we did walks, still do, about 45 min in the morning and about an hour every night.....he does well on a leash, amazingly....but it sure does not tire him out. I really think he is a cross between a yorkie and maybe a cocker or poodle....my other two are very well behaved so I can't compare him to them at all, my one yorkie, Sebastian was a rescue, he's 9lbs and just a doll, 5-6yrs old and then the baby is 3lbs, I got him at 10 weeks old and he's just my heart, Sterling, he's spoiled rotten but very well behaved for one so small. Seth has been to the vet, she's not sure he's pure yorkie either, he's well and healthy and she tells me to just be patient, I am, but wowwieeeee, this guy is driving me nuts. I feel so bad for him, I do have him in a pen during the day with a top on it because I can't stand the kennel...just don't think that I can deal with this much longer to be honest. |
