| Animals Left in Car -- When Will People Learn--When Will I Learn A couple weeks ago, an elderly couple parked next to me in the lot where I was waiting for my husband. When they got out of their vehicle, the woman noticed me holding Sydney in her bag. She stated she had a poodle, which was in a bag in their backseat. She then proceeded to close the doors, and her and her husband went into the building with their dog in the car. Full sun, left in bag, windows cracked. I was very worried, but I did nothing. No excuse for their behavior, but no excuse good enough for mine. Today, we were in a store's drive-up pharmacy window. Next to us was a car. What drew my attention was a dog barking inside the car. One window was cracked the thickness of my finger. We had a few other things to do in the area, and so we left, but we returned to find the dog still in the car, full sun, and probably unable to breath very well. It had also been barking, so perhaps very thirsty, too. My husband said to just let it go, but I couldn't. I called 911 and reported the car. It was intimidating, and I don't think I sounded very intelligent on the phone, but the dispatcher took my information and said he would send a squad car over. We then left. Instead of being scared about my actions, I felt very good. Perhaps I can be an advocate for animals...so can you. |

| Good for you. I agree, you may have saved that dog's life. You've also opened my eyes too to what I may do in that situation.

| I am so glad you called 911. I will never understand how people can leave animals or children in hot cars, they are totally clueless!

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Don't feel bad at all for doing this. Good Job! More & more people are speaking up now for poor judgement, not only for animals, but also for children. There's no excuse for not knowing the dangers as so many sad, sad stories have been told and televised. We were in the grocery store the other day on one of those HOT days. They announced on the intercom that a specific car had a dog left inside & were calling the owners! Someone had reported to mngmt & rightly so!

| You did the right thing!! I would have called 9-1-1 with no hesitation and would have sat there until the police got there! I was recently at a dog show in Dallas and it was HOT and we came to the show and we saw a mastiff in the bath tub and they were having to put him in ice and had an IV running and getting the car ready to transport this dog to the vet because it was left in the car with the A/C running and the car quit running and this dog had a body temp of 108!! What do people think leaving an animal in the car on a hot sunny day? It broke my heart to see this gorgeous animal this way and was very distrubing. Many handlers and others were trying helping! I and my friends stood there crying knowing this poor animal probably wouldn't make it! We never found out but I'm sure this poor dog didn't make it and I still think about him :*( Please let this be enlightening to NEVER second guess calling 9-1-1 for any animal left in a car! Donna |
