| Suddenly Aggressive With Our Other Dog Maddie is 9 months old and has suddenly become very aggressive towards Julie our 2 year old pug. We adopted Julie 2 months ago and from the start she and Maddie were great playmates. Maddie has more energy than Julie but when she's awake, Julie is playing with her. Within the past week Maddie has started a disturbing behavior. She will attack Julie to the point where Julie whelps and desperately tries to escape. It is NOT playful and it is without provocation. It had occured when Julie has a rawhide but it has also occurred without it. Julie shows dominance behavior by humping Maddie fairly frequently but if it weren't for that you'd swear it was Maddie who was dominant because of her energy. We have tons of toys for them and tons of rawhides (we have removed this temporarily in the hope of curbing the attacks). The each have a bed and they each have a crate. Julie is more of a lap dog so she often lies with us on the couch but we go out of our way to pay hands on attention to Maddie as well. Any ideas as to what could be happening? |

| They must be fighting over who is the alpha. I really don't know what to suggest except one thing that won't sound nice, but it is the way dogs behave....see what happens if you don't interfere. They can make a lot of noise without really hurting eachother. However, if you think one is going to get hurt I wouldn't try this. My pups play VERY rough with eachother sometimes, and when it seems to serious I yell NO!!! loudly enough to startle them into stopping. You definetly don't want to have two dogs that can't be in the same room. Let us know what does eventually work for you and I wish you much luck! |
