Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Getting pup to wear harness. Hi So like I said I had Poppy to the vets today for her first needle. Her nails are getting pretty long and Im covered in scratches from her The vet told me I could let her walk on the path in my garden as long as its closed in and no other dogs can get in (which it is). But I dont want her running off and getting lost under one of the bushes lol! So I thought I would put her harness on her and walk her up and down the path, this would blunt off her sharp nails and also get her used to walking on a lead for when shes had the rest of her shots. BUT I tried to put the harness on her this morning and she HATED it. She rolled around and squeeled like a little pig, basically cried her little puppy heart out. How do I get her to wear her harness? Thanks

| Having a simple harness helps. The first harness I purchased for Max was one of the thin, strappy ones with 2 snaps. I don't think we were ever successful putting it on him. I purchased a simpler style that went over the head and had one snap, similar to this one: Just Pucci Puppia Soft Harness Much easier to put on a pup. Once it was on, I distracted Max with toys and treats. Didn't take him long to forget he was wearing something new. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Thanks. I have two one is thin and strappy, it only has one snap but is quite hard to adjust as its a bit big on the size its on at the moment. The other one is a Juicy Couture one that has velcro instead of snaps.. I thought that would be easier to put on her but again its wayyy too big. I will look for another one at the weekend. In the mean time I might just put her play pen outside on the patio so she can ware her nails down a bit Thanks again.

| My puppy was too small for any of the xs puppy harnesses so I bought a soft ferret harness that fit him perfectly. He hated wearing it as well at first because he wasn't used to it and kept trying to chew on it. I kept it on him for a little while each day and he finally got used to it. I then incorporated the leash and let him run around my living room with the leash attached so he would get used to that as well. Now he doesn't even notice the harness and he's finally big enough to wear a REAL puppy harness hehe Hope this helps!

| My friend has a Shih Tzu and he hated the normal harnesses. One day - while bored at work - I found this website with this harness. I think it's really cute and Joey's pup, Faegyn, LOVES it. He will fuss when you try to take it off. What Does Your Dog's Harness T-Shirt Say? at UrbanPup.com I hope this helps!

| Yeah a rabbit's harness MIGHT be too big but if they have them for bunnies then maybe not. You could also try the kitten section, that's where I got Oliver's collar from but I don't think kitten's really wear harnesses so you might not have great luck. The only other thing I can suggest is looking online and seeing if they have any xxs harnesses. You don't want to risk getting one that's too big and your little furbaby slipping out! Good luck!!

Your pup will get used to a harness when it realizes it gets to go outside when he has one on. Before you know it, your pup will come running when it sees the harness. | |
