| Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself Hi, I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tiffany Propst and I am a final year veterinary medicine student at the University of Missouri, Columbia. I own a 9 year old AKC female Yorkie named "Propst's Good Golly Miss Molly" (call name "Molly") who I have raised and trained myself. She has her AKC Canine Good Citizen certification and is a Certified Therapy Dog. She gained certification through a program created at the Vet School called "P.A.L.S." or "Pet Assisted Love and Support". I take her to a local nursing home where she is much loved. She is a fantastic little dog (the best I have ever owned, and my first yorkie). I am joining this site primarily because I am looking to find another AKC registered Yorkie female puppy and I saw that your forum contains listings for Yorkies for sale. Obviously I am very interested in getting a HEALTHY puppy, so I am searching where I can to find one. I am also interested in talking to others about their Yorkies as I truly believe they are the best dogs ever! Can't wait to talk to you all! |

YT Addict | Glad to hear someone who is sort of in my area. Good luck in Vet school. My niece is a grad of same school and practices in St. Louis. My daughter hopes to follow in you ladies' footsteps. I am checking into getting our little Mia into a certified program. She is the best little love and yes therapy into a 2# package ever! Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Welcome to YT! Your little yorkie sounds wonderful. I would love to have a therapy dog too but morgan gets so excited to meet people that she can't sit still when people approach. There are a few great breeders on this site and there are also a few not so great breeders. Please remember that just because they are here doesn't mean the breeders are reputable or the yorkies are standard. Check out Yorkshire Terrier Club of America for breeders in your area first and make sure you research the heck out of the breeder. remember, you buy your breeder first, then the puppy. If you check the library here you will find some good threads about purchasing a puppy and what to look for. YT is filled with great information. Good luck on your search! Oh also we have members here that are a part of yorkie rescues. They have many great yorkies of all ages that are looking for their permanent homes.

| Thanks for the welcome everyone! Yes, I know all about how to search for a good breeder. They do teach us a little bit about genetic diseases in vet school. I know you probably say this to everyone who comes here looking and mentions wanting a puppy, but I know perfectly well what to look for in a good breeder AND in a good puppy. I know that not every breeder on here is going to be a good one and I am definately knowledgeable enough to know what to look for. I know better than to buy from a pet store because I know where they come from and I have seen the problems it causes those dogs - FIRST HAND. I have considered rescue but I have decided that is not what I really want from my next dog. I am interested in participating in AKC events with my new puppy (hopefully either agility or obedience). I definately want a puppy so that I can begin training her my way as soon as I get her. I am definately greatful to everyone who participates in Yorkie rescue (we have a rescue labrador now, my second rescue lab. So I partipate in rescue as well). |
