The first time you saw/met your yorkie... Any one care to share stories about the first time they saw/ met their babies? The second I saw Bilbo at the shelter I knew I had to take him home with me. I wasnt even there to look at dogs, as my boyfriend (whom I live with) had just adopted a sweet senior dog (also happens to now be Bilbo's best doggie buddy). It wasnt just how cute he was, it was that every time I tried to leave his pen he would cry! It made me so sad for him. My boyfriend convinced me to think about it overnight. When we came back the next morning, I swear Bilbo instantly recognized me! I was super convinced that it was meant to be : ) |
My Apple was the smallest Yorkie in the room, but she kept getting the one toy available, from all the other Yorkies and kept bringing it to me...I went to get a little boy, and came home w/Apple...When I went to the breeders house, to see Buzz, it was a long drive, and I had to gooooooooo when I got there...The 4 Yorkie pups were all running around, and I asked to use the facilities, and Buzz just ran right in after me...No time to get him out, so we just talked for a minute or two, and I decided it was going to be him...Then a few distractions w/his siblings, and I almost didn't get him...Oh wow, the thought of not having Buzz is too much to think about...He's a perfect little boy for me, and perfect little brother for Apple... |
It was a LONG 4 hour drive after a nasty snow storm! I knew I wanted him before I got there, and as soon as I walked in, he would not leave me alone! He ignored ALL the other people there and just kept licking and snuggling me. I knew it was right! We didn't take him that day, so it was a long four hours back. Then two weeks from then we finally got to take him home :) |
Great topic! When I picked up Max, I was trying so hard not to cry tears of joy, and I was completely in awe of all of the adult Yorkies in the house. I didn't even notice Max in the xpen. When our breeder handed him to me, I was thinking, "What is this?" :p It wasn't until we were on the road that I finally came to and realized, this is my baby boy! When we picked up Teddy, we were waiting in a hotel lobby, holding our breath every time the door opened. Finally, our breeder walked in and there was our little darling. I fell in love instantly and wanted to hug him and love him, but I stood back and remained quiet while he checked out his brother Max. |
Well she was my birthday present from my boyfriend. I had wanted a puppy for a long time and he told me to pick one from the litter. Poppy was the runt and when I first saw her she was being pushed out of the way of feeding by her brothers and sister.... I felt instant love for her and she has the most gorgeous little face which just melts your heart, I knew she was the one :) |
Picking up all of my babies was a wonderful moment, but I guess Bentley's was the most memorable. His daddy was with him and was super sweet just like his son. I was sitting on the ground loving on Bentley and Amanda (breeder) yells "NO"! Well I look down and Bentley's daddy is marking me. I guess that meant I was good enough for his little boy. LOL :p |
I had wanted a dog for years, so when we were making the drive out to the breeder's place, I didn't have my hopes up that I was coming home with a puppy. I thought I'd look, and then my husband would say thanks, time to go. But when they brought in Wall-e, my husband held him first, and you could see his personality! That was it - we were in love! He latched onto my finger and kind of sucked on it for a while. We put him down and he ran around the room, playing with us and the breeder. He was soooo tiny when we stood up, he looked straight up at us as if to say, "well, let's go!" The breeder cried when we left with him, he had been her favorite. I was so glad to finally have my Wall-e! |
Each one of my dogs that I've brought home I knew they were mine from the start. It was a feeling and I haven't been wrong. I bought my male when he was a quivering 7 months old, and my female when she was 8 months old and a ball of energy, and now I have an 8 wk old chihuahua pup boy who is every bit thinking he's a yorkie and the Yorkies love him to death. Happy household all the way around. :) |

LOL...his approval was obvious....too cute!:) Ruby was brought out to me, and I thought she was the tiniest, most pitiful looking little girl (puppymill girl), but she stole my heart. Dh to this day laughs at his first thought upon seeing her...."And, I paid $700 for this"?!?!....he wouldn't take a million dollars for her now though, she's his "tiny-sweet". With Reno, we drove 4 hours to the burbs of Kansas City. As soon as I saw Reno, I fell to my knees laughing with joy. I know that I'm biased but to this day I think Reno was the cutest yorkie puppy I've ever seen....a little black/tan fluff ball with sweet inquisitive eyes. He rode all the way home on my lap and to this day doesn't leave my side.....dh calls him a mommy's boy.:) Tomorrow is another big day for us....our little Razz is finally going to be here! So, I'll have another post in this thread.....I can't wait!!!!:D |
I've already told my story, but came back to read the other posts...Wow, I'm all welled up w/tears...Everyone seems to have their special moment of knowing they'd found another wonderful love in their life... |
First time I saw Mango's picture/ information was in the thread on here for his 'adoption advertisement'. I knew he was going to be the special one! The first time I met Mango (at the breeders home), i walked up....and there were probably 5 other Yorkies with him. I knew EXACTLY which one was Mango, I could tell by his face and eyes. Then after a few min, I picked him up, and knew he was perfect :) |
Rosie was given to me by my sister in law for Christmas. I was not sure at first but let me say it was a match made in heaven. I wouldn't give up my baby for anything now. She was a perfect fit for me. I think she is the best Christmas present I have ever received. |
My friend's aunt was fostering Levi, so our first meeting was a chance encounter. She was dropping something off at my friend's house and had Levi with her and it was basically love at first sight. He was so friendly and excitable, and ran up to me right away and licked me on the face. When I found out he was adoptable, I knew it was meant to be! |
I didn't get Jackson from a reputable breeder but she had the pups at her house... it wasn't in the greatest area (Baltimore) so my dad wouldn't allow me to go alone and drove me there, lol. We both went in and she brought out 2 male puppies (only ones left) and both were kind of acting the same... I had Jackson's brother in my arms first and he seemed more scared than anything, so I picked up Jackson and held him for a few minutes and he seemed much more content in my arms! I dunno.. I guess I just felt that connection from the get-go and knew he was mine! |
When I went to meet Piper I had worked Saturday and Sunday nights 12 hours. Monday morning I slept an hour and a half. I got up, showered, dressed the kids, then drove an hour and twenty minutes to pick her up. I was nervous the entire time. I wasn't 100% I was doing the right thing by getting a puppy. I met her mama half way between our houses due to my work schedule and apparently she got car sick. She was covered in vomit. :( I forgot her carrier that morning but I had a cloth shopping bag in the car. SO, I put her little body in the bag with her head sticking out and held her in my lap for the drive home. I got her home and gave her a bath. I dried her off and my husband told me she looked like a drowned rat!! I brushed her out and she jumped down to investigate the kids. She was so happy and soft and fluffy after her bath! She curled up with me and fell asleep. I knew I was in love when I had to leave her for a few hours....I could think of nothing but Piper the entire time we were gone! |
With Lola I remember it was not long after Stormy passed away my first yorkie. She was very shy and not outgoing at all. A total lap dog. Not playful or anything. When we walked in Lola ran up to us and she was so ugly she was cute lol Her hair was ALL shaved off and her ears were huge but she was SO happy and playful, she started bringing all her toys over to us and wanting to play. My hubby and daugher just sat and played with her but I was still not convinced. THen the lady showed me all her belongings and pulled out the exact same Leash set that my Stormy had. I got tears in my eyes as I told the woman that my dog that just passed had the exact same set. Well it felt like it was a sign from my baby girl in heaven that this was ment to be. On the way there it was storming and raining but when we left it was sunshine. With Zach I saw his pictures before and thought he was so adorable, I loved that he had the long hair and he looked so sweet. I had to wait a little over a month to get him and we drove a few hours to meet our breeder. They were so kind to meet us half way otherwise it would of been one heck of a trip! We pulled up and Lynne got out of the car with Zach in her arms with his little sweater on. She passed him to me and he was SO adorable!!! and smelt sooooo good I just held him and couldn't get over how perfect he was!:) |
This is a GREAT thread!!! The first time I saw Muffin and Boomer was on a You tube video. They were so little. I didn't think the breeder still had Muffin so I called to ask if they had one like her. She actually still had her, so I made plans to get her. My sister wanted one too so I told her to pick one out and she chose Boomer. He would be my Christmas gift to her. I picked them up at the San Francisco airport on a November day. I got there an hour early and waited with one of my good friends and her little boy. I was so excited. When I finally saw them they were much smaller than I thought they'd be...I guess the camera really does add pounds. They were so cute. I took them out and held them....they just clung to me. There were two other people waiting for pups in the "Pet Air" area. When all the pups came in...everyone kept coming back to see Muffin and Boomer. Of course they were the cutest ones there :) Boomer was with my sister a few weeks until she decided a puppy was too much for her to handle. I gladly took him back...He was surely meant to be with me too because he's been my little Mamma's boy ever since. |
When I first met Kaji was when I picked him up at the airport. He had gone through a 5 hour flight with 2 layovers to get to me. I went in and nervously signed the release forms. (signed in the wrong place too.) I quickly took him outside and put the crate on a bench. He was curled up in the back of the crate as tiny as he could possibly make himself. I honestly thought this must be the wrong dog! I thought I was getting a one year old (that day was his bday) 6 lb yorkie. The furbutt in the corner looked way too teeny!!! He wanted nothing to do with me. I pulled pieces of chicken I had brought with me out of my purse and spent a good 30 mins tossing chicken pieces into the crate. He eventually relaxed enough to let me pull him out. He still didn't want anything to do with me! I put him back in, gently placed him in the car and drove home. I don't think I've ever driven so slowly in my life! I didn't want to scare him. I got him home, let him walk around, gave him a bath and finally he started to relax. :D By the end of the night, he couldn't stand not being by my side. That's when I knew I had found my true love. |
This thread is too cute! I've already posted mine, but keep checking back because the stories are so sweet! |

Wow, this had me teared up too! Baxter: I always wanted a dog my entire adult life. My husband promised me that as soon as we bought a house, we could get a dog. (I knew it had to be a yorkie because I had fallen in love with a co-workers dog.) He said he would not play ith or feed the dog, but if I MUST have one, it would be "ok". I picked Baxter out of a litter when he was 3 days old, and visited him every other Saturday until it was time for him to come home. I took a receiving blanket and a toy to the breeder & she put it in the kennel with his mother to get her scent. I will never forget the day we picked him up to take him home, he was bathed and fluffy, wearing a red polka dotted bow, that I still have as a keepsake. I held him nestled to my chest the whole way home, and when I put him on the floor to put his food and water down, he barked his head off at me...as if to say "hey I don't know this place!" Cooper: About a year after Baxter came to live with us, I had the puppy fever again. I stopped at a pet store "just to look" and they had one yorkie in a kennel alone. I asked to take him out, just to look, and I fell in love. I paid for him, and took him home. My husband said I had to take him back, and I said he was non-refundable :p . He was mad at me for a while, and decided Baxter was HIS dog, since I was a traitor and brought another baby home. Darcy: In 2008, my Husband, the man who didin't care for dogs, was driving on our road, and spotted a little dog laying in the middle of it, cars whizzing around her. It was rainy, and he was scared she would get ran over, so he stopped to pick her up. He didn't make it out of the truck, because as soon as he opened the door, she jumped in, crawled over to the passenger seat, and fell asleep. She was panting heavily when he got her home, I took her to the vet & he put her on Lasik for her heart. I put an ad in the paper and contacted all the vets & groomers in the area, but no one claimed her. It was ok, because in my heart she belonged to us the minute I saw her in my husbands arms. |
I am so glad I started this topic now! I almost quoted basically every ones story! It made me so excited/happy just reading those! It also makes me want to get Bilbo a little sister out brother when I move out of this apartment/ finish college! Lol |
When we first went to the breeder's house there was 2 girls there. The other was bigger then Bee & had Shanuazer Momma, but had been with Bee there whole life. Bee used to be very shy(shes alot better now) & was scared to death of everyone except me. :-) She came & crawled in my lap & hid from everyone else & kept noseing my hand for me to pet her. & I knew I had to have her & that she was the one as soon as she looked in my eyes & I picked her up & she kissed my nose. Then that night I had her in a box with blankets next to my bed & I kept my hand in it for her. But in the middle of the night she woke up crying, so I picked her up & calmed her down then put her back in there & she kept crying so I left her in my bed & she cuddled in my arms & now everynight since then she has slept in my arms. ♥ I couldnt love anything more then I love my baby girl. She is soooo attached to me & I am the same way with her. If I am away from her for a couples hours I just wanna come home & since I dont have a good bag for her she cant come alota places with me. I think when you see your Baby you know that its the one & if you dont feel that connection its not the one for you . |
I brought George off the internet and arranged to have him flown up to our nearest airport,1.30 hours away so DH and I left work early to be on time to meet the plane, when the airport offical handed me the carry cage I thought it was empty, so light and no noise, I looked in the back and there was the most beautiful puppy, instant love, got to the car and had to take him out for a cuddle and to give him a drink, couldn't wait to get him home. Its still such a joy to see him when we have been parted if only for a short while, best purchase I have ever made. |
Love it I was looking for months for a yorkie to replace the boy I lost 8 months prior. I didnt want one from a pet store so I found my Gezell in a local newspaper ad. The Mother and Father were at the home with their puppies living around the corner from me! When my husband and I walked in the house Gezell was the first to come running to us. She wouldnt stop biting my husbands shoelaces. Thats when we knew she was the one. Then after picking her and putting a deposit down we started to leave and Gezell came running to the door at us. So glad we found her. She is the most Loving, protective dog ever!!:D |
2 Attachment(s) when I first saw Penny i nearly cried it was love at first site and i would have paid anything for her shes still the most beautiful thing in the world Sienna was not love at first sight for me but its was love at first site for Penny thats was INSTANTLY her baby sister she wanted nothing to do with the male puppy at all that was her baby then and there |
Couver: I found Couver on a Craigslist ad that did not have any pictures. I went to the lady's house and instantly fell in love with his adorable face. He was so scared, but ever since I got him home, he has not left my side :) Khloe: I first saw Khloe through an email from a fellow YT Member. She sent me pictures of her while I was at work... I saw them on my phone, and KNEW she had to come home with me. I met her for the first time after a 4 hour drive to Oregon and got to see all her siblings. She was shy and reserved, but I could tell that she was the one! |
Milou: In Greece we don't have breeders for all kinds of dogs. First time I met a Yorkie was when a colleague of mine brought hers at work. It was love at first site. We went together at the pet shop that she bought her's and we ordered mine. Two weeks later I went to pick my little girl. I picked her up, put her on my heart and she started licking all over me and she haven't stopped licking me since the first day Jean: 5 months later I went to an other pet shop to buy food and I saw a tiny Yorkie in a kennel, I was already looking for a second one because I was already a Yorkie lover. They told me that they had this little puppy for almost 3 weeks in the shop. I went home and I couldn't get her out of my mind. All alone in a kennel for three weeks. Next day I went back and I picked her up. I put her on my heart and she breathed like she glad I put her there. Of course I couldn't let her down after that. Brought her back home with me and we are one happy family ever since Maria |
I love these stories. Here's mine: Lila was gift from an ex-boyfriend. We had been fighting, and he bought her as a make-up gift (I had wanted a yorkie for a while, but couldn't keep one in my apt at the time). So one day during our fight he calls me and tells me, "meet me at dunkin donuts". When I get there we talk, then he walks me outside and makes me close my eyes, and put my hands out. He places Lila in my hands, I open my eyes and see this sweet little yorkie pup. She immediately makes this noise that sounds like a sigh of content (she still makes this sound), puts her head on my chest and looks up at me. We immediately fell in love. Although she lived with him for the first 8 mos of her life, whenever I would come see her she would be attached to my hip. She knew I was her momma. She is a sweet, scaredy-cat cuddlebug, but my ex picked her out because she was beating up her littlermates!! |
