Mya's spay is Friday Well, the time has come... miss Mya is being spayed and having at least one baby tooth removed on Friday. I did not have to go through this with Oliver, as he was fixed while in rescue, thankfully. I'm very nervous. I'll be working that day just to keep myself busy. My little girl does not deal with pain well, so I'm concerned about her pain level. I bought some onesies at walmart and she went NUTS when I put it on her... She does not tolerate clothes at all, she goes insane. I should have ordered a soft-e collar. Seems she'll be wearing the uncomfortable cone quite a bit if she won't tolerate a t-shirt or onesie. Please keep her (and her nervous momma!) in your thoughts on Friday! I know it'll be fine and I'm glad it's going to be done soon as I feel this is our last hurdle with her (other than the ongoing potty training battle). Thanks! |
Lots of good thoughts for Mya. :) |
we will definitely keep you in our thought and prayers! Kobe's neuter is tomorrow lets stay positive!!! |
Good luck! I asked my vet to use a different method of suture* for Ziva-he used Glue! worked out fine, Ziva never touched it and it healed invisibly! She was groggy for the day and the 7 teeth removal was actually better -it took the pressure off her gums and you could hardly see where they took them out. I fed her soaked kibble for a day or two because she liked it and I wanted to make sure she had a full belly with the meds they gave her. *I had an awful time with my Wheaten she ripped out stitches and replacement staples- 3rd time they kept her hospitalized/confined/ medicated for two days. |
Mya will be in my prayers! :) |
Kasha gets spayed too Friday! I'll think good thoughts for both our babies! I have to get her a onsie too. What size did you get? My Scottish Terrier was spayed when she was 6, she had NEVER worn clothing in her life, but she was pretty out of it so she tolerated it & I'm sure that the cone would have been worse. I'm sure Mya will be the same. :-) Goodluck! |
Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.. I will be keeping Kobe and Kasha in my prayers too! Guess we aren't going through it alone! lol. The size for the onesie I bought was 3 months, but I should have gotten 6 months. Mya is really long and it barely fits. She's around 10 pounds so she's a bigger girl :) Definitely gonna mention the glue to my vet, see if that's an option! She LOVES to rip threads outta her toys, so I can just see her doing that to her stitches.. lol |
Sending prayers for Mya's spay on friday. |
Sending prayers for your girl's safe surgery and speedy recovery. Hugs to you momma b/c I know how scary this is. I just had my girls spayed about a month ago. She will probably handle this much better than you will. lol Let us know when she gets home. |
I will definitely be thinking about both of you. It won't be long and I'll be going through it myself with the little boy! Keep us posted! |
I love the laser surgery! Java, the Chih was the first pup that had it. The grrls before Java were spayed with the knife. I was very impressed how neat the incision was & the vet used the glue on her. She healed a lot quicker, too. Beau was neutered with the laser and he had dissolve sutures. He healed pretty fast. Blue was neutered by my best friend's vet and they used the knife on him and he's healing as to be expected. I did not use my vet because he wanted $250 for the castration, in total of almost $500 for everything. It was a lot of money for the 3.4 lbs puppy with cryptorchidism. I now know that i prefer to have a vet who does laser surgery. Of course, it costs more but whatever is best for my babies. :) It is normal to be nervous. You both are in my prayers & she's going to be okay. |
Ahh! Kasha goes under the knife in 30 mins! I'm stuck at work worrying for my poor little monkey! Hope all goes well for our babies today! |
Hi, just wanted to send prayers and good thoughts your way! |
My little Tilly was spayed yesterday and she's fine. She also had two baby canines removed and was microchipped. She has stitches and a dressing on her tummy, which they don't usually bother with. I'm guessing that it's because she's so close to the floor. She's also got an Elizabethan collar which she hates. She ate some chicken as soon as I got her home yesterday afternoon and has been drinking well. She's slept a lot (very wise) but does enjoy a little potter around. She's crated most of the time, though, as she's obviously feeling better today and was starting to get a bit silly. It's great to see her happier than she was yesterday, though, and I'm not at all concerned about her. We have to go back to the vets Sunday lunchtime for a check up. It's a relief to have it over and done with. Good luck with your little girl. |
Good luck for friday :) |
Sending you lots of luck and mounds of calmness. Please let us know how everything goes. Lots of luck and mounds of calmness to the others as well. :aimeeyorkYorkieProud:aimeeyork :pISN'T IT FUNNY HOW THE SMALLEST THING CAN HAVE THE BIGGEST HEART?:p |

Mya isn't done yet.. they do the surgeries between 12 and 3, so could still have a bit of a wait :( Am at work so that's helping to keep my mind busy. She's going to be microchipped and at least 2 baby teeth removed that the vet could see... Mya doesn't like people looking in her mouth, probably because when I am looking in there it's to take something away lol. I'll post when I can, I'll try and sneak on after they call me when she's done. Right after work I am rushing home as a friend is picking Oliver up for the night (that's gonna be tough for me too, geeze.. talk about a bad day!) and then I'll head over shortly after to pick up Mya. Just want it OVER!!! |
Don't worry! My dog was spayed recently and all was fine. She got a nicer cone (it was clear so she could see) which she actually did well with. I didn't enjoy being hit with it though! (My dog kept trying to put her face near mine and kept forgetting about the come!) Her incision healed nicely and it didn't bother her too much. Sending good thoughts your way for a speedy recovery! |
Awww...everything will be fine! That will be the next thing for my Maddie. I'm dreading it too! |
Everything will be ok. Kobe got neutered yesterday and is fine. He wasn't groggy at all when I picked him up so he's been confined to my room since he got home. I was a wreck yesterday too. Send Mya lots of hugs & positive energy. |
just checking for updates.. |
Yikes! Hopefully you've heard by now! I'd be shaking in my boots! We got the word around 1pm that she was out of surgery and starting to come around. They pulled about 6 teeth and said she's super healthy & did well. I'm going to see her in about 30 mins (I wanted to make sure she wasn't groggy still) They did the glue rather than the stitches so I'm hoping she will do well with that. I hope Mya is out and doing well! Let me know how she is!! I'm sure she will be thrilled to be coming home with her mom. I'm a little envious you get to have her home tonight! |
Mya is home... She's been home for about 2.5 hours, but it's honestly taken that long to get her settled in! She was shaking for a good hour, bad enough for me to call the vet, but they were closed. She stopped once we got settled and she's now resting comfortably beside me. She ate about 6 or 7 wet kibbles and had a little drink. She had 3 teeth removed and was microchipped. She is pitiful, whining and moaning.. she doesn't do well with pain, so I expected that. Thankfully my friend took Oliver for the night (and he's having a blast from the pics she keeps sending me!) so at least I don't have to worry about him for now. Now the fun part... HOW to keep her from jumping for a week.. lol. Also, the cone I bought from the vet is WAY too big (was the smallest they had! And she's a BIG yorkie!!!), so we're in for a battle with her stitches for sure. It was a LONG day.. I lasted until 3:30 and then I called them. She had just woken up and they were about to call me. I just couldn't wait any longer. Ugh, and when I was there a lady came in with her dog to put him down... I was brought back to the day we put Freeway down and I sat there holding back tears before they brought Mya out... now I can't get this poor woman out of my head, knowing exactly how she's feeling right now.... Bad timing for sure. Glad the worst is over with and she's home where she belongs... Kashasmom, I can't believe they are keeping Kasha overnight! Is this still common practice at a lot of vets? I'd have a tough time with that one too!!! I look forward to hearing that Kasha is back home where she belongs!!! Mom2Kobe, so glad little Kobe is home and doing well!!! Hope his recovery is swift!! Thanks so much for the good thoughts and prayers, everyone! Keep em coming... I'll post pics later. Breaks my heart to see her like this! |
Awww! Jen1381, I'm sure your day must have been sooo long! Mine was until I snuck in a visit at the vet around 5. Kash was shaking like a leaf, so hearing that Mya stopped makes me feel much better! Kasha actually was so drugged it took her a few mins of me holding her for her to really realize who I was and she wagged when her dad came (of course boosting his ego). We held her for about 30 mins and then I left her with her blankie. Almost cried. I hear that the first 24 hours are the worst. My boyfriends sister has a toy poodle and she cried every 20 mins all thru the night. I hope you (and Kash's vet tech) have better luck. I honestly had never heard of them keeping overnight and when my Scottie was spayed 3 years ago we got her back right away. Of course she's a beast and just slept for a few days w/o a whimper. But I'm told it's so they can give pain meds & monitor for any issues. I think it's to starve off any lawsuits. Idk what's worse, hearing her cry & knowing she's in pain or just wondering. At anyrate she looked as pitiful as possible(don't they always) and I will be calling the vets as soon as the vet gets there to make sure she's 100% to take home. Can't wait fpr 830! I'll update once I get home tomorrow. Hope everyones recovering furkids are doing well! Sorry for any typos, at the BFs parents winter place(it's 2 mins from the vet) and there's no internet! I had to update with my phone! |
ahhh I sure hope Kasha is home now! Mya had a good night! She slept 7 hours in her crate, went out for a potty, and then came to sleep with me for another couple hours.. she just would not stay in that crate anymore, she cried and cried so I gave in.. lol. She has been licking at her incision, so I had to put the onesie on.. she hates it but is tolerating it. Works like a charm, I need to go get a couple more. She's far more alert today which is nice to see. Now just waiting to bring Oliver home and see it goes with the 2 of them. I miss my boy!!! |
She's home! Picked her up about 9 and she LEPT our of the vet tech's arms for us! That's my girl! She wasn't pleased to be in her Sherpa rather than my center console on the drive home. Other than that she seems to not be in any pain despite pulling 8 teeth!! She chowed down her breakfast and is resting. Kasha was trying to lick her booboo so on went the onsie. She is tolerating it too. Now to keep her resting all day... I'm sure you'll have the same issue once Oliver returns! |
I'm so glad everyone is home and doing alright. Kobe hated the onesie so i ended up cutting the arms off and tying it off with a hair tie to keep it on. It's working alot better and he's more comfortable. I got a bunch of onesies fromthe dollar store, they also had little shorts that I cut a hole for his tail & stuff. Take a look at the dollar store ladies! |
I'm glad to hear everyone is home and doing well. |
Mya is eating and drinking like normal.. but.. no poop since yesterday morning?? I've read this is normal after a spay, but how long should I wait before letting the worry set in? I do have some pumpkin on hand to try, but I am just a little concerned at this point as she poops like clockwork normally. I know her little bodies been through a major trauma and it's normal.. but I'm still concerned! |
