That's a good idea...haven't thought of that, I'll have to go get some.

Yet another reason us follicle challenged people have it rough! Like forgetting the hat when mowing the yard! Lol!

Be interesting to know if the pillow lickers have a common diet??? Like a certain brand of dog food, or home cooked meals, etc.

This would be interesting to know as well. Ours are all on Science Diet W/D (one has diabetes, one has pancreatitis bouts, one is hypoglycemic, one was just fat, and the other one just gets it because it easier). We do add chicken broth, rice, chicken breast, vegetable broth, pumpkin, and the like to their food a few times a week, so I don't know what they might be missing.

I've also heard of eating fibres or excessive licking is due to diet, lacking in some vitamin. I'm also curious if their diets are similar.

My guy is 2 yrs old and is an incredible licker. There isn't anything he wont sit and lick on. People, clothing, toys, bones, his blankie, you name it. I'm not sure what causes him to do it, but it gets annoying to wake up in the middle of the night to lick lick slurp slurp...

We just changed from Eukanuba to Eagle Pack due to the store switching over and the lack of availability of getting the Eukanuba. No difference seen. He just eats more often instead of the one time of day like he did on his old food. Go figure.

Sophie always licked my comforter and pillow cases. She also had to sit on the dryer while I did the laundry and she smelled all the clothes that came out, I figured she really liked the smell of gain lol

Muffin always licked my pillow, too. I always wondered why she did that, but no way I would have ever thrown her out of bed for it. After all, it was her bed. She was just sharing it.

My Jack Russell, Candy, will lick places on the chaise in the living room. It is a sort of micro fiber suede-like material. I thought maybe it just felt good to her. I don't like getting wet spots on my furniture though! Especially because it sometimes leaves a ring where she has licked, if she soaks it enough. I am always cleaning on the chaise! If I cover it with a throw, she does not lick. I have been making her get down lately when she does it to see if that will break her habit. But I can't make her stay down for long. She has the most effective pout of all time. Usually when I go lay on the chaise to watch a movie, all three get up and snuggle with me. One on each side, and one right on top of me. I am not complaining though! Except about the licking part.

I have 4 Yorkies. and 3 out of the 4 are compulsive lickers.
Dante he's 3yrs old and weighs in at 12 lbs he licks couches, pillows, sheets, pillows, and the other Yorkies hair. But it will only be the one that I am growing a show coat on. So whenever I leave the house Friday and Cruz go in an expen . Now Friday and Cruz have to licks my arms or hands before going to sleep.

I could have written the same thing about Harley. He has an underwear fettish, but last night Matt was like, "ugh I think Harley peed on the bed" we deduced that he just licked a spot too much.

I have no idea why he does it. He also loves to lick my feet.

Our Gizmo loved to lick as well! It started when he was little with licking the water off your feet when you got out of the shower. As he got older it was OCD ~ he would lick either my hubby or me non-stop (mostly the hubby) as well as pillow cases, blankeys and his feet. Asked the vet several times and we could not figure it out. Maybe they're bored?! Wish there was some answer out there...

The answer is simple, they love us so much they just have to show us the only way they can. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. LoL

My newest little guy does this, none of my others ever have. It is nice to see that it's not unusual.

My yorkies don't lick, but Barley does like to give little front teeth nibbles on my furry top blanket and to Bijous favorite stuffed toys. My Great Pyrenees loves to suck on his stuffed toys. He will lay and hold it in his mouth for half an hour sometimes. I think it's because a he was taken from his momma too soon. He was just under 7 weeks when the breeder told us to come get him. I have no idea why Barley does it, because he was a rescue. I know it's not their food because they get Lifes abundance.

These are making me laugh too. My 6 year old male, Yogi, has been an obsessive licker since he was 12 weeks old..at first it was baby lotion on my arms or legs..then that graduated to any scented lotion..now he will lick my pillow and the top sheet on my side of the bed until I think he will surely lick a hole through. Now I have his two kids and the female that is 2, licks just like he does, sheets, pillow case ect. Bogus, the boy waits till your busy watching TV or reading and then gets his licks in on your face and mouth lol. I don't believe theres anything lacking in my dogs diets...just couldn't be possible.. I think its a "Yorkie thing".

You got it. My Phantom does this - and has since he was 2 weeks old. His mother (Gellica) had complications 2 weeks after whelping (eclampsia). We almost lost her, but got to the ER just in time. She could no longer feed the babies, so we had to bottle feed them.

It is the puppies instinct to do those "nibbles" and they also try "massaging" with their paws to get the milk when they are nursing - So, when we took over feeding, we had to give them something to feel like their momma (in this case I used a bathrobe, and then moved onto fleece blankets draped over me). Well, Phantom never lost that suckling instinct because he had to stop nursing so soon. I've known of other yorkies that did the same thing (including licking clothes and blankets) and all of them were taken from their mother too soon. Just wondering if any of your pups came home early too?
