5 month old yorkie has one ear up and one ear down?????? Am I suppose to tape the one ear? It doesn't smell bad or anything so there's no infection. Also, I clean her ears so it's not because its dirty. |
Were they both ever standing up? Is your pup teething? Sometimes the ears will go down when they are teething, but will come back up. Not sure, hopefully somebody else can help. |
Also helps to make sure the hair on top of the ears is trimmed or shaved. If the hair is heavy it can weigh the ears down.:) |
Does it really matter? THe old dogs ears will probably never stand. |
both of them were starting to go up. then one ear went down and one went up. i think she is still teething |
Then I would think once she is done teething it will stand again. I also agree about removing any hair on the ear to keep it from weighing it down - but only if you know what you are doing. Don't want to nick your babies ear. |

My Gracies ears were up and one went down and I did tape the one ear for a few days and it went back up. I think a lot of it was because of her teeth but I wanted to give it a little help. |
I asked my vet about this today. My little 4 month old baby's ears were up when I brought her home 6 weeks ago. Suddenly about 1-2 weeks ago, one ear went down, one ear up. My vet checked her teeth today when I had Princess in for a check up and her 3rd series of vaccines. She is definitely teething. And I was told, her ears should both stand up once she is done teething. |
Jamie's ears were both up at one point but one went down around 4 months and never came back up. She is 10 months now. I never taped them but I did keep them trimmed. I actually love the way she looks with one down one up. It so matches her personality. People always remember her because of her ears. |
Penny is 6 months old and her ears are just now finally standing up |
Cooper had one ear up and one down when I got him but he was only 3 1/2 months old. I had his ear shaved and massaged it every time he sat with me. After about 2 weeks of massaging his ear stood up. Good luck!! |
1 Attachment(s) AWW! My Candy has one up and one down. It fits her personality. She is almost 3 years old. Attachment 318837 |
Ears Both of my babies (17 months and 19 weeks) ears started to flop at about that timeframe. I had the groomer 'tip' my oldest and I just 'tipped' (shaving the top of the ear) my youngest. They stood back up immediately. Really funny how the hair weighed them down. |
Does it really matter? Why do people always want to change the dog they have? If you love yorkies you accept whatever gets thrown at you. I just don't understand why people are so hung up on ears being up or down, the colour or size at maturity or mutilating their tails. Yorkies are yorkies. They're all born wonderful and should be accepted for the beautiful little dogs they are regardless of what a few people decide they 'should' be on paper. |
Culantro had one ear that fell down I think at 5 months too and I shaved both ears and put a tiny peace of Dr. Sholl's "mole skin" inside his ear for 5 days straight. I would not do it any longer. I changed the mole skin 2 times during that time and kept the area very clean and he was supervised at all times. Gave him a little extra yougurt and milk on his diet and the ear stayed up afterwards. It is a very delicate thing to do though, I've heard of dogs losing hair or with blood circulation problems if the ears are taped wrong. Culantro's ear with "mole skin" |
My yorkie also has one up, one down, like some of the other people have said, and it, too, fits his personality! So funny how that happens :) He is over 3 years old, btw, so it's not going anywhere anymore :D |

my yorkie Ka'Mora is 8weeks and has one ear that fell. Is this normal for her at such a young age? will it ever stand up agian? and can a yorkie control their ears to do such? |
Jackson was about 5 months when the other went up. |
I do know, sometimes dog's grow up only having one ear up, and the other down. My yorkie has her's down, and I never botherd to tape them, because she would probably get hurt. Shes like 8 months now, and there still down. Maybe ask a vet and here his concerns. I think it looks cute ! haha. But I hope nothing bad happenes, I don't think theres a problem with yorkies having this problem with there ears. There just prown to having ear mits. |
1 Attachment(s) Mylo had one ear up and one ear down when we got him at 14 weeks old. I taped both of them for a few hours on 2 days and they both stand up now even though he is still teething. Keeping the hair off the tip of the ear is very helpful... |
Ya my baby also had one up and one down when she was about that age. I was worried too until I found out they do that when they are teething bc they don't feel good. Sure enough after all her baby teeth fell out her ears stood back up. I didn't tape. They will stand on their own. |
I forgot to mention that Mylo has VERY BIG ears... ;) |
Same thing happened to my Bentley when he was 3 1/2 months old. We had the hairs on his ears shaved and trimmed. It went up and down for a week and finally stood up after. By the way Candy looks cute! |
3 Attachment(s) yes my baby has big ears too.:p they looked especially big when she was a baby and as she grew older she grew into them. i tried keeping the hair on the ears short too, so it wouldnt weigh them down. heres some pix of here when she was around 5 months old too with her ears down, and this is how she looks now... i was also concerned when she was little that she injured her ear or there was infection. but it was none of those.... teething is all. she had days when it would be up for awhile and go back down. i actually didnt take many pix of her when her ear was down bc i always tried to take them when it was standing up, so i hardly have any. but i wish i had taken more. its cute.... your baby wil go through many stages. take as many memories as u can. :):aimeeyork |
