| Dont leave you dog alone in a enclosed place My neighbors had a tragedy last week and i decided to say something to everyone my house has a clone across the street when the people bought the lot across the street they decided they loved our house so much they wear going to build one just like went down to the building department and got the blueprints the homes are identical in every detail. so this hits me very close to home anyway we have this thing called a breezeway its a room with glass walls that open into slits its supposed to keep the house cool these are pictures of the room because i did not explain it well (please excuse the bags the kids are getting rid of toys and old clothes and what not and this is the dumping ground for all things in limbo for trash or donation) 100_2607-1.jpg picture by LSineri - Photobucket 100_2606.jpg picture by LSineri - Photobucket well my neighbor left his chihuahua paco in this room (in his house) and went to the store for about an hour it was 85 degrees outside i know he left water out for the little guy because he loves him to death but when he got home he found Paco laying in his dog house nearly dead from the heat my 16 year old was walking our dogs when he got home and started yelling she brought our dogs home and went with him to the emergency vet because she knew wear it was and he was not sure that was a week ago tomorrow and Paco was in the hospital for 5 days while he did live they are not sure if he has permanent brain damage from the heat im sure some of you have breezeways and sun porches that you leave your babies on all the time just please be careful and make sure your dog is not to hot one way to roughly judge is to sit out wear you are leaving your dog for an hour wearing a long sleeved cotton shirt to see about how hot they are getting.

| oh poor baby. Hope that he will recover. Thank you for sharing this. Depending on the weather, I leave the access to my sunroom open for them during the day. Fortunately the doors are heavy so there is no chance that they would close by accident.

| That is great advice. I think most of us think about not leaving them in our cars but not the porch. These little guys just cannot take it.

| poor little one...my boys get locked in our kitchen area, but the AC is on when it's above 70 outside...and the heat is on when it's below 70. Haha, we are spoiled, but we know the temp will always be safe for us and our furbutts!

| im glad i could help remind everyone heat is a very dangerous thing. Gatsby and i went over to see Paco and i have to say he is not the same as he was but he was playful and responsive so hopefully with time he will recover fully i am putting a air conditioner in the wall of my breezeway and shutting the windows because it really is a nice place to leave the critters when im away but first i need to get the kids to clean it up good thing school is out and tomorrow is saterday

| Thanks for the reminder and I hope and pray Paco recovers fully! I have a sunroom that gets quite hot, but I never leave the dogs out there. If I did, Faith would dig in all the plants. LOL Great thread to remind us all what heat can do to an animal. On tonight's news, there were warnings about leaving pets in cars in the heat, and that they will break into the car to save an animal in distress and also fine the owners. I hope lots of people saw that!

| Thank you for the post. I think most people know not to leave dogs or kids in cars because of how hot it can get but I bet a lot of people didn't think about a breezeway. I know I never would have thought about it. I don't have a breezeway but I really hate air conditioning and my kids are always bugging me to put it on but I really love it when it's hot. But this year I have been putting it on more because I want Charlie to be comfortable'' I hope poor little Paco makes a full recovery! |
