| Collars--How often should I be washing them? Uni is scratching a lot on her neck. Her collar is pretty dirty. Maybe that's why? I never wash her collars. Or should I just buy her another one?

| Well they are fake leather, I think. Pirssy's is a hot pink croc print with bling and Yoshi's is a brown leather. I bought Yoshi's collar and lead from PPE and got a great deal on them.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We only have cotton collars/harnesses. I wash them about once every two weeks. KS loves to roll around in the grass and get dirty when she is outside.

| I know right?! The only reason why I even bothered to ask is bc Uni's collar is white with red crabs on it. Usually I always get black with skulls.

| I wash Ziva and Abby's collars in Minksheen, hoping it has a sort of flea collar effect! they do smell nice and fresh. I use very thin collars by lil pals- they are soft and silky, and don't break Ziva's fine hair. Inexpensive too! |

Seriously tho, I either wash weekly when we bathe or if using leather(ish) as we are now I wipe them down on bath day.

My vet actually equates collars to underwear. After a bath, you wouldn't put on a dirty pair of underwear would you? Now I have 13 cotton break away collars for Kaji. A nice fresh one after every bath for him.

| Honestly, Jax has so many collars, I never have to wash them, I just rotate LoL!!! Spoiled much?! But no lately he's been wearing leather collars, they hold up so much better. I haven't conditioned them yet or anything. I AM planning on buying a stink-free type collar that is good for water because every summer he stinks up nylon collars from swimming so much.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I wash and switch out Taycie's weekly after her bath. I just put them in the washer with her blankets and they always come out great and look brand new. As for the ones that are not washable, I use a small amount of her shampoo or baby wipe and wipe them clean I am a collar freak. I have to be able to switch them out!

I think also if you put leather conditioner on it, it should help seal the porousness and keep out the yucky germies. then you can just wipe it clean.
