I will probably get some flak here about my opinion, but I feel the only time to pick them up outside is if there is a danger (a big dog, etc.). I've never experienced Bailey wanting to be carried when we are outside. She enjoys her walks.

Little kids run over and pick her up and she is SO WIGGLY because she gets excited around little persons and then they fall out of their arms. It scares me so much. I don't know how to be mean but in a nice way. They can pet her but I don't get why they run over and automatically pick her up thinking it's ok?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to tell people that it's ok to pet but not pick up Winnie and say it in a nice way?
If the person/child is reaching for your dog to pick her up, start with a gentle "no" and put your hand toward your dog to block the person. Smile when you do it. Then calmly say she doesn't like to be picked up by other people and that it is best to leave the puppy on the ground. That isn't rude.

I brought my older Yorkie to PetSmart this weekend and the trainer tried giving Max a treat while I was paying the cashier. She asked if it was okay, but she already had her hand at his mouth. I'm not an outspoken person, so I shocked myself when out of my mouth came "oh no, no, no, no." LOL. I keep Max on a strict diet and I had no idea what she was handing him.

Your dog's safety and health come first. Don't worry about offending anyone.

Most people on YT who own strollers or carriers do not use them to the exclusion of walking their dogs. There are times when the stroller or carrier is convenient and safer, for instance, when the dog has had enough walking or is at a crowded event and risks getting stepped on. Strollers make a nice resting place and refuge from the sun on a long outing.

Most of them are about how cute and little he is, sometimes people stop and ask me what kind of dog he is, how old is he, and how big he will get (to which I always respond "I am not quite sure, but certainly not much bigger). Why would someone take a long haired guinea pig on a walk to the zoo or on vacation (which is where the comments occured)?? People are so strange!! Also, lots of people ask me where I got him from and how much I paid, which always makes me a bit uncomfortable, as I usually don't share my spending habits with people I don't know.
Seriously? A Guinea Pig? ugh...

1. " They need to walk". - After they had walked 30 minutes and were tired. I put them in the stroller so I could walk faster and get a workout for myself.

2. "I see you got a LAZY ONE there". - After Teddy got his luxating patella diagnosis I let him ride in the stroller when he is tired walking. I responded by saying "he's crippled". I think I embarassed the guy.

Annoying.

Earlier this week, a husband and his wife were commenting on my dog.

Woman: Oh she's so small and gorgeous
Man: Wow, that is such a small little dog, so cute

I smile of course and say thank you. We start back walking and the man says, "he's just so tiny..he looks like a little rag"

Are you serious?! I didn't even comment. We just kept walking. I also get the is she a "miniature/teacup" I despise that term..so I say, "no she's 6lbs, I like her thick" lol..

It seems like everyone I run into think that McKenzie is a boy. I keep her in a puppy cut and she hates bows but, she wears a purple harness, a pink collar and has a pink leash. My new neighbor saw me walking her the other day and said "Hey that is a cute lil guy.!" I just smiled and kept walking.

Agree. We are getting a stroller tomorrow because our oldest, Dany (7 yrs.) has a luxating patella that doesn't require surgery, but she can't walk as long as Addie and Mia. Dany will still get her walk in, but I don't want Addie and Mia to suffer with shorter walks because Dany can't go as far. Putting her in a stroller will also keep our arms free for Addie and Mia if we have to quickly pick them up for whatever reason (like an agressive dog approaching).

Otherwise, as I said before, they have four legs and know how to use them.

Maggie, I would head them off at the pass. As soon as children or adults make a move to pick up your baby, just smile broadly but loudly say, PLEASE do not pick her up. You may pet her, but she is not allowed to be picked up. If they ask why, (which they won't probably) you can explain the danger of her being so wiggly and when little like they are, they can easily be hurt badly. Sometimes, if I see people approaching, I'll reach down and pick the two littler ones up, just to be on the safe side.

You don't have to be mean or rude at all girl, but your job as Mom is to protect them, so, you have every right to limit who, when and where someone picks up your baby.

I'm one of those people that hates being rude, and I gently tell children all the time, please don't pick her up but if you'd like to pet her/them, they will love you for it:-) I've never had one go against my wishes and we usually have a pleasant chat as children have a gazillion questions, bless their hearts.

I get a lot of attention when walking my dogs and usually I don't dress them up because I don't want any more attention. It bugs me lol When it's ppl with other dogs and they want to say hi I like it but not when it's ignorant ppl that know nothing about them

i let people pet my dogs because they love the attention but i never let them get picked up. i have got several comments my mom lives in a teeny tiny town in southern ohio and when i go to visit her gatsby never ever fails to get noticed

my family owns a tattoo shop next to the family auto repair shop
well the tattoo shop is nicer and has couches so we hang out there one day Gatsby was sitting on the couch and i was answering the phone(they always manage to put me to work) and a woman with a little girl comes in to have the little girls ears pierced for her birthday my uncle said to get a stuffed toy to hold and come on over she points right to Gatsby and says "i like that one". we let her pet him and gave her a little stuffed dog.

i was walking him on the main road which is actually a highway and we wear stopping to potty and a man stopped his pick up truck and leaned out his window and said a dog that small is a abomination it dose not deserve to live. i picked up gatsby and hightailed into the post office until he was gone he got out of his truck to look for us.
yes i filed a police report but his truck had plates from out of state

Just last weekend, I had Melody in her bag, she love to walk but if I see she get tire, I put her in her bag, anyway this lady, said to me she is so small does she ever touch the floor??, but in a very sarcastic way, and with a sarcastic smile, so I answer to her, of course she is a "dog" and she love to walk, she is not my accessory, plus is perfect when it gets kind of crowded, because, I don't want people to step on her, and that "lady" ask me again, so you think that people are going to step on her? with her sarcastic tone, oh no she didn't it, I look directly at her eyes and told her, believe it or not there is people out there that they don't look where they are going she finally walk out with her husband
I just can't imagine if, I had my stroller with me, what would she said, I don't understand why people have to be that way
