I HAVE A FEMALE YORKIE THAT WAS RECENTLY IN HEAT AND NOW HER NIPPLES ARE PURPLE AND SWOLLEN? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT CAUSES THIS?

I've not had that happen with my female after being in heat. They aren't hard and lumpy are they?

Most females nipples do swell while in heat.

Ruby went into heat at 6 1/2 months and after her heat she went into false pregnancy where her nipples got large and around her nipples got swollen and hard. Her nipples didn't turn a different colour though. I took her to the vet and he confermed that she was fine but going through false pregnancy and to watch her. She is now spayed and doing fine.

Yes, some swelling is normal, I just haven't seen the purple coloring.

Missy has been in heat( first time only) And her nipples were swollen! Hope your pup is fine!

It is not uncommon for nipples to swell and sometimes they even develop milk. It is a hormonal thing.

My female Abigail went into her first heat almost a month ago. It seemed like it lasted over a month? From beginning to end. She was miserable, slept all the time or not at all. Chewed and pulled all her hair out around her butt/back
and hind legs, she looks like a little lion. She still looks swollen, even her nipples. Thank Goodness it is only every 6 months.

Welcome to YT. It is possible that your little girl is having a bit of false pregnancy. You can ask your vet to take a look if you are really concerned.

My thoughts exactly. You said she WAS in heat...hence past tense. Some girls even without being around a male will exhibit the signs of a pregnancy. They can even produce milk. Just their bodies freaking out with all of the hormones. But, you should go to your vet if you're really concerned.

My baby Kelsey has this too. She was in heat last month and her heat ended September 25th. She still has hard nipples and is humping me when she get's the chance....is this normal? I am still looking to get her spayed the clinic I'm trying to do it at is booked....any advice?
