How did your Yorkie get its name.... There are so many interesting names! So how did yours get it? Our Pup Seeker was named by my 5 year old. She LOVES the show LEgend of the Seeker, so, hence, he is Seeker :) |
I loved the name Bella and wanted my granddaughter to be named that. Since I finally got a grandson we decided Bella wouldn't work!:p When I got my little Yorkie and ended up with a girl it was the first named that popped into my head. Since my name is Donna my hubby loved the idea of Bella Donna so it stuck. |
Another Bella here also. Decided a few years back that my next girl furkid was gonna be named Bella. It's just so girlie and it fits. |
roman/greek mythology was were my furkids got their names I chose Pann's name because I loved it, my family still thinks I'm crazy.PAN was the god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music. I just liked the way it flowed off my tong. His name really fits him. The bf chose Artemis's name b/c she is a puggle (beagle & pug) and Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt and wild animals, and fertility--he chose it b/c of the first three, he found it appropriate :p |
My lil one is porsche wanted a name that started with a ( p ) it took us a month to find one she would answer to my vet was starting to get upset with me when i took in for her shots with no name so that is what he called till we found porsche pat |
I thought Penny was a cute name for a yorkie theres quiet a few Penny's around here im having a hard time coming up with her future sisters name though |
I didn't want a Yorkie that was laid-back or timid --- I wanted one that had spunk and the temperament that Yorkies are supposed to have, a true terrier temperament. Alert, friendly, afraid of nothing. That's what I got, and I chose a name that would say "here comes trouble!" |
LOL, Moka was bought and brought home by my daughter to be Her dog. She named her Mocha because of her reddish/brown color. My daughter's boyfriend kept calling her Mo-Cha or Mo-Cha-Cha and it stuck (hence My screen name) but we hated Mo Cha Cha, so she changed the spelling to Moka, darling daughter got rid of the obnoxious BF, and Moka became My baby! Couldn't be happier about any of it. :D |
bijou estelle my furbaby is a rescue and she came to me with the name gypsy. i knew i was going to change it and when i went and picked her up, she was sleeping in her kennel and seemed really woozy and discombobulated, so we called her typsy. i knew i was going to change her name, but i didn't know to what. originally, i was going to call her jolie, but when i mentioned it to someone, he said "you mean like angelina jolie" and i was like ooooooohhhh noooooooooooooo!!!!! :thumbdown back to the drawing board!! i knew i wanted a french name that had a good meaning (b/c i've wanted to learn french for a long time). she's such a blessing to me that i finally came up with bijou, which means jewel. her middle name, estelle, is from my deceased mom. it took me about 3 weeks to come up with her name LOL |
Cpt. Jack Sparrow (Jack) got his name due to the fact that we have an all black kitty named Black Pearl (yes, we got her when Pirates of the Caribbean was popular) and since we had the Black Pearl, my daughter said we needed Cpt. Jack. His name is very fitting! He is handsome and suave and rambunctious and raucous just like the movie! One of these days, I will get him a sister and her name will be Elizabeth Swan - her nickname will be Izzy because I think that is a cute name. Sorry, no Will Turner in my story.... Heck, I always thought Elizabeth and Sparrow would be together at the end anyway - boy did I get that wrong! LOL |
Jackson came to mind because me & my mom had just watched Walk the Line (the Johnny Cash) movie and he had that song, ya know... "I'm goin' to Jaaccksoonn..." LOL and it was a week later I brought Jackson home, and my mom mentioned the idea to me, so I kept staring at his picture (before I even met him) and thought he just *looked* like a Jackson. Nothing else I came up with seemed to fit. |
Sophie Kate came with the name Sophie we added the Kate part the first night I got her because my friend Katie was over and Sophie Kate just crawled on to her lap like she belonged there so we added the Kate part. Kind of glad I did now, there are so many Sophie dogs in this world, it makes her unique. |
My husband and I both made lists of potential names trying to stick to names that were english shoulding since they are originally and english breed. We compared our lists and Paddington was the only one that wound up on both. We both loved it so thats what we went with. I made his middle name Oliver because I LOVE that name and wanted to use it but if I ever have a human kid I might want to name it that so its only the middle name. Don't want the kid to find out he was named after the dog or something lol. |
We decided on Roxie because of Chicago (the musical) Shes our little jazz starlet. Ryder was a surprise to us and we got him to be a riding buddy for my hubby, turns out he loves his momma and isnt a rider after all. Prince we could not decide on a R name or any name for that matter and my hubby was home the weekend we got him and called him rooster because of his crying in his pen, then when he went to leave town he picked up the puppy and said goodbye Prince and then that was it... hes our Prince. |

LoL When I brought Pnut home, Hubby and some of his friends were kinda... wasted.. One of his friends say's "he looks like a little peanut" and that was it haha |
When we purchased our two first little girls in Lancaster Pa from a Amish friend of ours I turned to my husband and said now... What are we going to name them? He said the little one is Sadie May ,(That is a amish name ) I said oh thats so cute and then we said okay now how about her sister I said I know it's Jackie Fay. A year Later we rescued Rosie and that stuck because all of my fur babies names end in ie, Then our final rescue came as Diamond and I said no way thats not going to work so I named her Julie Ann. Then my last rescue (we had him for 2 yrs. a maltese He is Romeo we call him Romie Michael. My fur grandbaby her name is Lillie she is a jack russel. and sweet as she can be. |
I always loved the name Benjamin and planned on naming my son that name if I ever had one. Since I didn't ever have a boy and i knew i wasn't going to be having anymore babies I gave Benjamin the boys name I've always for some reason loved. :) |
3 Attachment(s) my furbuts ;SONNY, because he was a baby that needed amputated,he looked so so sad, and i said "my poor wee son " so son-ny it was. BEAU; even though she is a girl, i let my dh name her and he said her ears look just like a bow, now she gets bowbow BAILIE; my cross, his colour is identicle to baileys irish cream yumyum!!!!! |
I named my little girl Dahlia, but I call her Dolly. She's such a little cuddler it fits, and she likes when I dress her up in all her outfits, like a little doll! |
We named our baby girl Ellie Pearl. Ellie is short for Elwood Lee my grandfather. Pearl was the nicname of lynns grandfather. |
When I picked up my little boy he looked like a little " Teddybear" , hence the name. When I got one of my females she was 1 1/2 yrs. old and her name is "Baby", That is where I got my screen name BabyTeddybears. And along came my little girl who I thought was going to be named "Angel" but when I picked her up she looked like a "Lil Lucy" and it stuck.. |
I tend to chose the name then get the pup. My Yorkie Gypsy Belle : always wanted a long hair dog named Gypsy. Though I keep her hair short. Puff the chi: Hubby named her Cocoa Puff cause she is chocolate brown (some groomers and a vet say she looks like a chocolate yorkie) and her parents were named after candy. Sophie Renee our boston terrier: I wanted a girlie name cause they look so stocky. I thought of the name then right after saw it in a romance I was reading so that was a good sign. Trying to convine hubby I need a pomeranian next, may wait till I see the pup this time. |
Preston Marsh and Paisley Parker OK, this is kind of a bad place to get a name but............Preston was a rescue, and we drove over an hour to get him. He was five months old, had gone to puppy auction cause he was "too big to be sold" so he had never had a name. (He is 16 lbs of PURE joy by the way) Anyway, driving home, we were trying to think of a name, and were yelling out all the words we saw on signs as we drove. Every time I saw a town name I would say it out loud, my two goofy daughters said they were going to add "butts" to the end of everything I said, so Diggins (a town) Butts, Seymore (another town) Butts, then we see of all things.......a funeral home called Preston Marsh, I kinda liked the name, so he is named after a FUNERAL HOME, and by the way, my daughters and groomer still lovingly refer to him as Prest on Butts. ROFL He looked like what I thought a Preston might though, kind of serious and somber. With Paisley, I had the name picked out before I even got her. Kept telling little Mr Preston I was going to get him a little sister some day, and she was gonna be named Paisley Parker. Just liked the two names together. Preston and Paisley, my youngest daughter gave me a hard time, told me no one was into alliteration anymore. Apparently I am though. LOL |
What a cute thread. My lost boy was named Matty - short for Matthew. When I lost my little chihuahua/poodle mix, Amy I was in bad shape. If dogs are ever soul mates, she was mine. I was heart sick. And them my groomer called 2 months after she died and said she had a little abused yorkie she had rescued (privately - not through a shelter). So we went and looked and got him even though I didn't feel ready to have another baby. But he saved me - and so we named him Matthew which means "gift from God". Because he was. |

Kinda strange story... Years ago I had a C-A-T and named him chunky rasta but for reasons unknown(and... I had already quit drinking by then) I started calling him Finn. So when I rescued my yorkie/chi or ???? /mix I wanted that name for him. People say he looks like a Finn so it must have been the right name. He finally moves his ears now when I call him although we are still working on who the leader is ... Bg |
I don't know if any of you have ever seen the movie The Dollmaker with Jane Fonda...but in the movie there is a little girl named Cassie Marie and she has an imaginary friend named Callie Lou. It is an all time favorite movie of mine. It is a very sweet (or bittersweet, I should say) movie and the little girl in the movie just steals your heart. There is a tragic part that involves this little girl toward the end....and the little girl who lived next door to her ended up naming her doll Callie Lou. If you haven't seen this movie, you are so missing out. Anyhow, that is where my Callie Lou got her name~:aimeeyork....after Cassie Marie's imaginary friend. My daughter has a little Yorkie that they named Chewie (short for Chewbacca from star wars). He is quite a furball just like the Chewbacca in the movie. I also know someone who has a dog named Hooter....because when he was a pup, he loved to snuggle up on his Human Momma's "Hooters"~:D Too funny~:p |
Well with Mica we honestly couldn't think of a name we liked and then my sister said that we should just take the letters from our last name and mix them up and she came up with Mica in a flash. Everyone loved it. :D |
