Hugs: I totally know what you mean! Ive actually tried that..just sort of ignoring him. He doesnt care. I think just like a child he is in that 'self absorbed' stage and he just wants to play all the time. Since I wrote this thread though, he has been much better it seems. Strange huh? How cute about missy making you pet her...my cats are just like that. It gets old with the cats though. |
I think it's the age. SKippy isn't much of a cuddler at 8 months. He'd rather be playing. Gwen who is 3 just loves to cuddle all day. |
Reagan just turned 1 and in the past few months I've noticed a change in her. When I would sit in the arm chair I would always put the foot thing out for her to lie on now here lately often times she will climb on up to my lap and lie on me. She will also sit by me and lay her head on me to get me to pet her. She's become extra sweet these past two months or so. As far as the bed goes she's always had to lay up against one of uswhen we goto sleep. We got her in Feb so maybe it started out for warmth I don't know. I definately could be the age. I might also recommend you continue working on your training at home, which you may already be. Just because I've noticed with one of my big dogs he is devoted to me like nothing you've ever seen before and he was my first dog so I worked with him a lot. He's 5 now and where ever I go he goes if I sit down he will sit down and eventually lie down once he realizes I'm not going anyway, then if I get up he gets right up too. I've noticed this a lot with hunting dogs and work dogs as well. I've heard that training creates a bond that you've never seen before and the more I see the more I believe it. It may not happen right now for you but I believe in the future it will definately be worth it, not to mention you will have a very well behaved pup. Either way I'm sure he will turn around one day. |
Awwwe, that rejection feeling stinks! Here is the thing....they start out cuddly, then they lose it, then once they get older you get it back. It is nothing personal against you....most puppies just don't want to hold still very long. Trying to hold them when they don't want to be held is NOT ENJOYABLE AT ALL! I have got to the point in the past that I was like "YOU are MY dog and I AM GOING TO HOLD YOU AND LOVE ON YOU WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!" Well.....that didn't work either. Just wait, your time will come....you won't even be able to go to the bathroom without adoring eyes staring up at you the WHOLE time! ;) |
Sydney didn't enjoy being petted and cuddled until we got her spayed. Then it was an almost imediate change. During her recovery she wanted to be held because she was in pain...and that just never stopped. Now she is such a little cuddle-bug. I can put her to sleep by rubbing her tummy and chest. :) I'm sure it will come with time. |
I've been thinking so much about the cuddly problem. Susan wasn't cuddly at first either and I've been trying to remember what helped. I think sitting on the sofa helped a lot. On the sofa she had the choice between sitting beside me, on me, or at the other end. At first she sat on the other end, but gradually got closer and closer. Now she usually lays with something of hers touching something of mine. Every so often she decides it's "Yorkie Time" and takes a flying leap into my arms. But I think that offering her choice with no pressure at all helped her when she was a baby. I tried to just be content to be on the same piece of furniture with her and let her choose her own times to get close. Eventually she certainly did! I know this won't work with all Yorkies. Some are just more independent than that. But I think the general principle of letting the puppies choose helps. |

Satch likes to be held but only when he wants to! If I pick him up he wants to chew on me anywhere he can reach and his little teeth are like needles. When we go to bed he likes to cuddle and when he is awake it is hit and run.Try picking him up and just giving him a smootch then put him down and walk away.Maybe after a few times he will beg for more.Independant little ones aren't they?? |
My choc boy, Snickers, is that way. He is the only one I have that does not want you all the time. BUT, Yorkies have their own minds and Remi is a daddy's boy. He will get on Daddy's lap for numm-numms and when I pick him up and ask if he wants numm-numms- he has a fit..Licks my face and tries to get down. I hope your little one cozies up soon...Remember, it is not personal..Some are just that way especially those who have been taken away from their siblings too soon.. |
Snickers was cuddly at first but now she isnt as much, she would rather sleep and cuddle up to Jasmine. She will once in awhile want up and just lay on our lap or in bed with me for about 15 min then she is back on the floor with the Danes for the night. I could just see if she was constantly sleeping on the bed with us that Jasmine would think she could also and then we ( Husband & I) woud be on the floor with Sky lol |
Its soooo funny. Since it has gotten colder, he has been a snuggling machine! Its tooo cute! |
When I first got Tucker at 8 wks, he did not want much to do with me. He didn't have a lot of human socialization when I got him. Then he got attacked by the neighbors poodle and I am convinced that if I had not had him on a leash, he would have been really hurt. I grabbed him up real quick and yelled at Luca the poodle and since then he has been a mama's boy. There are only about 4 hours a day that he wants nothing to do with me. Oh, and everytime I take him to Petsmart, he begs for me to let him down to play with other dogs but that will never happen...Give him some time and lots of love and he will learn how to give you love.. |
Cooper didn't become cuddly and kissy until after he was neutered. Now . . . if my husband or I are laying on the sofa, he's on our chest wanting to be as close to us as possible! |
Yorkie puppies are very busy babies. There is always a dust bunny to chase, a fly to eat, a foot to bite, not to mention toilet paper that needs to be unrolled, etc. My three were always way too busy to be cuddly. Even now at 2, Chattie only wants to be cuddled WHEN SHE WANTS TO BE CUDDLED, Chizzie at 1 1/2 is way too busy playing ball, and Peppy, well Peppy is just way to busy being busy. Chattie and Peppy are becoming night snugglers, though. One sleeps on each side of me except for when they both decide to sleep on my pillow. |
Tigger has his moments. he'll be really cuddley and sometimes he just wants be left alone on his section of the couch. and he makes it known. he will get off my lap and jump into his section and plop down. most of the time though he prefers my lap. I think because My boyfriend(John) and I have constantly had him in our arms or on our laps since day one, we've turned him into a spoiled rotten lap dog. in fact right now he's sleeping on my lap. but don't get me wrong, he loves to play oh my goodness does he love to play. his favorite past time is playing with his squeaky basketball, and playing fetch. |
