| Question for those who work full time...What is your dog's schedule? I'm trying to figure out how this works and what time I will need to get up once the dog is home. Can you tell me: -Do you walk your dog as soon as you get up or do you feed them first, then walk them? (I'm a little confused about this since I know they must have to go after they wake up, but if you walk them then feed them, won't they have to go again in a little while?) -How much extra time does it take in the morning to take care of the dog's needs before you go to work? -How many hours does your dog sleep at the night? -If your dog sleeps in your bed, has he/she ever had an accident on the bed? If yes, do you have plastic on your bed? -Do you have a different routine on weekdays than on weekends? Like sleeping in on Saturday or Sunday morning. I like to sleep a little later on Sunday mornings but, will I have to get up early to walk the dog since she will be use to going out at a certain time? As you can tell I haven't had a dog in a very long time (since I was a kid) and I need alot of help and advice. I thank you all for being so helpful. |

| Thanks, I do love Silk and I do not want to give her back so let me tell you what I have been doing everyday since I got her. First I put pads down but she never used them...for just incase. Every morning we get up at 6am after sleeping in a kennel. First we go outside to pee and poop. Silk always had to poop first thing. We don't come back into the house unless we pee and poop. I give her and Remmy fresh food and water. She usually eats from 6am till 6:30am. Then I take her outside to pee again at 6:30am sometimes she pees sometime she don't. I try to make it that we dont come back in till she pees but I can't wait all day for her to pee. then at 7am before I get into the shower to go to work we go outside one more time. Then (this is where I could be messing up) I usually let her stay in my room if she went pee the last time, because I work and so does my husband and she is gonna have to be in the kennel from 8 till noon. So for instance this last time she went out at 7am to pee then sometime one of the kids come into my room to talk to me when I am taking a shower and out goes Silk...runs upstairs and pees. But usually after I get ready one more time she goes out. Then she is in her kennel (m-f) till noon when my husband comes home from work at lunch to let them out to go potty. She ususally poop and pee then also. Then have a little lunch. then back into the kennel until 4-5pm when we get home from work. then first thing we do is go outside to potty when we get home. Then I do not want to put her back into the kennel as she has been there all day. That is when my watching her comes in contantly watching her calling her name so I know where she is, following her around. And inbetween all that we go outside a whole lot. Sometimes yes...she goes to the door because she wants out to run around....not to potty. But if she goes to the door I always let her out and tell her to go potty so she knows that going to the door means I need to pee. we finish up around 9:30-10pm and by that time I'm ready for bed. My weekends are spent watching her from 6am till bedtime. I kennel her if I am going out. if I am going out for a short period of time we have a sunroom that we keep the dogs in with thier kennels and food and water. |

| Well every dog is different...but here is my life. I get up at 7:00 to go to work. When she was a baby I gave myself an extra half hour...but now I don't need that anymore becuase we have it down to a science. So...up at 7:00 Syd goes (both 1 & 2 on the pee-pad), then we head to the bathroom. I bring her food bowl and a couple of toys into the bathroom with us and she eats breakfast and plays a little while I shower and get ready. Then she goes into her crate and I'm off to work. I come home around 12:00 and she goes on the pee-pad (#1 only) and she eats her fruit or veggie snack for lunch. Back into the crate and I go back to work. 5:00 I'm home from work and she does both 1 & 2 on the pad. We take a walk. She eats dinner at 7:30. And she usually falls asleep on the couch by 9:00. I put her to bed between 10:00 and 11:30 (in her crate) and then we do it all over again the next day. I do get up at 7:00 on the weekends just to let her go potty and eat and then she goes back in her crate and I go back to sleep. |

| I wake up at 6:30ish and take Maximus for a 30 minute walk...he has wee wee pads so if he has to go he can go on the pads or outside. He eats breakfast at 7 am and then I go in the shower and get ready for work, usually about 8 am I take him for another 15 min. walk and then I put the gate up, leave water and a treat with his wee wee pads and I am off to work. My ex is still coming by at 12:30 to fee Maximus lunch and take him for a short walk, when I get home at 5:30 I take him for a walk and feed him dinner. Maximus is ready to go to bed at about 10:30-11 pm and sleeps until 6:30, he used to sleep in bed with me..NEVER an accident and now sleeps in his bed so I can sleep better. Weekends..I end up baically waking up at the same time but the routine changes a little in that I am not hustling to get out the door...so I spend time playing with Maximus in the house before I go in the shower and then I take him for a walk..like I said though he is wee-wee pad trained so he can pee inside...if he was outdoor trained I would probably take him out ASAP!! Maximus goes to the dog park on Sat. & Sunday for alittle while

| My hubby gets up at 6:45 and starts his shower, then I get up at 7. My hubby goes and gets logan out at about 7:15 while I finish getting ready. He feeds him and then takes him out. We put him in his playpen at 7:50 when we leave for work. He has a pee pad in there incase he must potty. He usually goes #1 before we get home at lunch. We feed him lunch then take him out and he gets to hang out with us for an hour. then back in playpen. Out at 5 or a little before gets fed then goes out to potty. Spends the rest of the night playing and letting us know if he needs to go out. In the crate for bed between 9 & 10. He was getting us up in the middle of the night to potty, but hasn't done that all week. Usually he wakes us up about 7:30 or 8 on the weekends to potty & be fed.

| Well I go to school and work so I am usually gone most of the day, but here is my schedule. Wake up - take her to her pee pee pad. I then let her eat and her run around. (This is for about an hour) I then put her in a confined area where her food, water, pee pee pad and open crate are. She will generally go on the pad 2 times or so during the time I am gone (8 hours sometimes). My boyfriend comes home and says hi to her, she is usually sleeping when he comes home so he keeps her in there till she goes on the pad after waking up and then lets her run free. She kinda grazes at night but before bed I take her to the pad again and wait for her to go. She sleeps on the bed with me and doesn't ever go on the bed, I can tell when she gets up and goes to the edge of the bed she needs to go so I take her to the pad. Normally this only happens if we sleep in longer than normal. I know you are taking your dog outside but I hope this helps a little. |

| My situation is a little different because I am days and my husband is nights. First of all, I do take up water each night at 8:00 to 8:30. I let her go out one last time around 10:15 pm to go potty and I always make sure she goes and she does. I wake up at 4:15am but don't take her out of her crate around 4:45am because she is still so sleepy. But once she is outside she does both like clockwork. I put her food and water out but she has no interest in it. (I keep that available for her all day now but didn't when I was first housebreakin her to learn her potty schedule.) She only wants to go back to bed. I then take her to my son's room (because I leave for work at 5:00am.) where she sleeps until 7:00 before he goes to high school. He gives her the opportunity once again to eat or use the restroom. Still she is not interest. He places her into the crate until my husband arrives home at 7:30am. He lets her out and she runs around and does want she wants until 11:30am. He then places her into the crate so he can get some sleep and nap time for her. I arrive home at approx 1:45pm and let her out. From that point on until once again 10:15pm she plays, goes for walks etc... She usually is not interested in eating till around 3:00pm. Even then she will only nibble. She is in her crate a total of 3 hours -week days. Because we have various shifts this works for us. Plus I have a college student who comes home at various time during the week, so sometimes she has company 24 hours a day. The weekends she is up with me at 7:00am ( that is sleeping in late for me) and she is with someone always. We only use the crate when we are all not home. Because of the lay out of my house it is hard to fence off a area ( not even the kitchen) and after her jumping up on furniture and retrieving items( very sneaky) she should not have we now place her in the crate but never for more then 2 hours at any given time. Somehow this works for us. I hope as she gets a little older I can lplace her in a room but for now she screams and howls when we try and for some reason prefers to be in her crate with her blanket. She even goes to sleep in it when we are all at home.

| My situation is a lot like Roxie. My husband is in the fire department so he works crazy hours, but Diesel and Daisy both sleep with me. They dont have accidents on the bed...If Diesel jumps down in the middle of the night, I know its because he has to go out, so I get up and let him out. Daisy will sleep all night right up next to me and not move a muscle. I get up around 6:30 and let them outside immediately. I actually carry Daisy outside because she is mad that I woke her up, they both do their business and I let them in. They have the run of the house while Im in the shower. At 7:00 I wake my husband and son up...So they are playing with the dogs until I leave at 7:15. If my husband is on day work, my father in law is at my house at 6:45 and he handles everything so I can leave. He will also come down to the house every 2 hours to let them out when we are both at work. When we get home they do what they want and will go sit at the door when they want to go outside. They have accidents sometimes, when Im not paying attention to them sitting at the door, but things have gotten so much better. I didnt think they would ever be trained. Someone on here was thinking about giving her yorkie back to the breeder, I would try a diaper or belly band first. At least you can make sure they dont peed in the house. |

| My 2 dogs are trained to poop and pee on wee wee pads. I leave 2 wee wee pads down during the day and change them when I get home from work at 6:30 p.m. I leave in the morning between 8 - 8:20 a.m.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I work a 2:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. shift. I wake up around 10 or 11 a.m. My wife works basically the same shift. Do you walk your dog as soon as you get up or do you feed them first, then walk them? * I let him out in backyard to pee while I have my coffee and check my e-mail (YT!). He usually eats after that. Within an hour, he tells me it's time for his walk. -How much extra time does it take in the morning to take care of the dog's needs before you go to work? I spend 20 minutes on his walk, then as much time playing around the house as I can afford. Usually another half hour. -How many hours does your dog sleep at the night? 8 -If your dog sleeps in your bed, has he/she ever had an accident on the bed? If yes, do you have plastic on your bed? No, never, not even as a pup. -Do you have a different routine on weekdays than on weekends? Yeah, we sleep in and he does too. When he was a pup, he'd want to get up earlier, but he got used to our routine.

| Jakes Routine I usually wake up @ 7:00 AM and take Jake out for a 15-20 minuite walk. We come in the house and I feed him and the cat then het ready for work. Jake has the run of the house. As soon as I get home around 4-4:30 PM we go on another 20 minuite walk, com inthe house and have a treat and have some play time sometimes I brush out his coat. Around 9:30 PM we go on our last wal k for the day. Sometimes he sleeps in the bed if he feels like it but he has never had an accident. (In the bed or the house) Most weekends we sleep in but if Jake needs to go out he will wake me up and let me know. He is a really good boy. Yesterday was his 4th birthday. |
