What is a "normal length" for a docked tail. Im thinking like an inch and a half?.

Precious has about a 2 1/2" to 3"tail, must be the vet was charging by the inch lol. we crack up when she gets excited bc her "nub" look just like a rattler it's so cute!

Uni's tail I think is perfect (IMO) and her's is about 2" +. I love to see that flag wave!!!

Thank God I live in the UK where mutilating yorkies is now illegal! There's nothing nicer than seeing a yorkie with a tail, and even before docking was banned over here, most people who purchased a yorkie insisted the breeder left it where it belongs...on the dog so it can communicate properly with other dogs.

magic also just has a stub. he is full coated and we keep the hair on tail longer so it appears like he has a tail. he is fine though and i don't think it has ever bothered him. glad to know i'm not the only yorkie owner with a little guy who had his tail cut to short.

I have 3 pups and they all have different tails. Doodlebug my yorkie/maltese mix has a full tail, Bogey is also a yorkie/maltese mix has a tail the is perfect about 2 inches or so and Pebbles my Yorkie's tail is on the too short side. There is a thread asking about how to DIY tail docking and some of the most reputable breeders are very adamant about issues involving who/how tails should be docked. While on the other day someone actually linked a Youtube and assisted via PM! The suggestion was to use a TOENAIL CLIPPER for the DIY lesson on docking and dewclaws! Tail docking/dewclaws IMO seems to be carried out by a lot of inexperienced wannabe breeders following Youtube videos and even PMs! Might be the reason we see so many pups with all different lengths of tails. After all it is an amputation so you had better know what you are really doing before trying this at home.

That's exactly what I think too. Inexperienced people doing it themselves and the result is a stub.

My parents had a Schnauzer that pretty much had no tail. A little nub was all that was left. The breeder they got her from said the vet cut it too short.
We ask the vet to leave the tails of our Yorkies on the longer side. I think its much prettier and many people are doing that too.

maddie has a nub too, hers is about 1/2 inch {maybe}---im trying to grow out her coat, i would say its about 1/2 way there, but when she wags her nub, you just see her ponytail move--i say ponytail cuz thats what it looks like when she wags her nub, just alittle movement. but i love her little nub.

Bailey has a nub too, very difficult to hold on to when doing the butt trim!
