When we Got our Riley, he was really shy, and sort or awkward, but he was so funny to watch, well the day after we brought him home he still had no name.. My daughter and I were watching National treasure, and one of the guys on there is funny and awkward, and when someone called him Riley, my daughter and I looked at each other at the exact same time and said ( in unison ) what about Riley, when that happened I knew, it was meant to be his name..lol..Oh and I forgot to mention. our new little Bella...she got her name because she is a girl and I am ridiculously obsessed with TWILIGHT..

Her name is shorted to Dany in the books, so our yorkie is also called Dany (with a "y" not an "i"). Our Dany is a seven year old puppymill survivor, so the name really fits.

Oh I love that series of books! Can't wait till he finally finishes the next one! And Daenerys is one of my favorite characters. Good name choice! :)

I'm "Irish at heart" and have a mild addiction to shamrocks and Celtic music. Since our Yorkie was born in March, it seemed appropriate to name her Clover. Her registered name is Jersey's Four Leaf Clover (Jersey comes from mine and my husband's names...Jeremy and Chelsey) and we call her Chloe. Her middle name is Belle because it flows well.

motomomma317 05-04-2010 12:15 PM

Yorkie: Moto, chosen by my son who races motocross.

Jack Russell: Sugar b/c she was my Valentines gift from my husband.

Border collie: Zipper b/c he's a trained herd dog and super duper fast. (we adopted this dog from my husband's father after he was no longer physically able to care for him)

Cat : Izzy. Someone dropped him off in my front yard in a trash bag. Becuase he was so small he looked like a little girl and we named it lilly. As time went buy and we got him into the vet he thought it was a boy, so we named him Izzy As in ishe a boy or ishe a girl.

I have some friends who rescued a dog that was dumped off near their house in terrible condition. They named him "Willit" because it was touch and go..."Will it live or will it die?" Fortunately, he lived! :)

roxygirl1281 05-04-2010 01:29 PM

I'm sure I've said it plenty of times before...but we named both of our girls for characters from the show Criminal Minds. My husband and I are huge fans, so we decided on Morgan Prentiss first and our new baby is now Emily Jareau. :-)

Sweet Girls 05-04-2010 02:02 PM

My father lives with me, and when I said I was bringing home a dog (my minature schnauzer), he was a little reluctant and said, fine then he is naming it, (and because I knew with a puppy I would need his support as he is home all day, and I'm at work) I agreed. Dad chose the name George (after his older brother), and when I said...but I'm getting a girl...we finally agreed on Georgie Girl (George for short) so ...I decide I want to get another dog, and my friend who does dog rescue calls and tells me about this perfect little Yorkie, and she thinks she would suit us well. Her given name was Roxy but we decided to re-name her (there is already a Roxy in our building), I thought I would call her Rikki...but once Dad got his hands on her, he said, Charlie! (another of his brothers). So....it is Charlee (tried to make it a little girly)...and the funnist thing is that both names suit both dogs. George is steadfast and stoic much like my Uncle George (always protecting his younger brothers) and Charlee is a sh*t disturber...much like my father and his brother Charlie!

Mom2Kobe 05-04-2010 02:15 PM

DH & I didn't expect to yet a puppy let alone a Yorkie, DH also thought he would look "sissy" walking a little dog.

We had him for 3 or 4 days with no name.... DH wakes up one morning and says "its either going to be Laker or Kobe (Bryant)". I went with Kobe, we are big basketball fans and DH is a Lakers fan Kobe being his fav player. He is now talking about getting another one, or two...LOL so much for looking sissy!! Their names will be Nash (Steve Nash Phoenix Suns and Garnett (Kevin Garnett Boston Celtics) thats is we get boys.

4 Cockatiels: Phoebe, Piper, Paige, and Prue... thats why i couldnt name the dog... Charmed Obsessed!

;):D;):D

chandracz 05-04-2010 02:20 PM

I went searching online because I didn't know about YT. I had "Bailey" and "Bandit" picked out. I figured whichever name I called him first (I knew I was getting a boy) would be his name. Bailey was the first name I called him..s :)

Wall-eWorld 05-04-2010 03:20 PM

You can probably guess about Wall-e, but I just love that movie! I wanted to name my dog Wall-e after seeing it, funny now how my Wall-e twists his head just like the movie character when he hears or sees something new.

wow..my grandaughter just called to check if our baby has been born yet.. They told her they think katie the momma has miscarried.:(:( they aren't 100% sure at this time.. She was due today or tomarrow...

SMApup 05-04-2010 03:39 PM

Sasha's litter name was Sassy... So I wanted something that sounded pretty close to that. I really do like the name too... Her registered name alludes to the fact that she was a little sneak when she was a puppy "Sasha's Midnight Affaire." I wanted her to sound important but also a little dark and mysterious in a sneaky way. I am so glad she grew out of being a little sneak!! I would love her no matter what though.

suemurray69 05-04-2010 03:48 PM

We named our lilttle girl "Baby". It just seemed like a fitting name and my husband and I have the hardest time agreeing on any names .I kinda wanted to name her sophie but after we talked about Baby it was settled.

vicki lynn 05-04-2010 04:00 PM

These are great everybody! I love reading all these stories.. Thanks for posting them...

Grendel 05-04-2010 06:11 PM

Mine was named Bonnie, because that is what she was to us. She wasn't the so called perfect Yorkie, but she had a great personality, she was very pretty. She hated grooming and bathing, but if you told her she was pretty afterward she would prance around.

Jacksmom052709 05-04-2010 07:17 PM

Cpt. Jack Sparrow came about because we adopted an all black kitten a couple years ago and named her Black Pearl. (Along with Pearl came her gray and white brother, Milo and we have an orange tabby named Mr. Poops - named as such because when he was little, he would hide behind the furniture and jump out and attack your feet - I wanted to call him Sh*& head but didn't think that would be very nice, so I settled on Mr. Poops. However, his vet records have his name listed as Bonsai.) Since we had the Black Pearl, it was only fitting to name him Cpt. Jack Sparrow. Jack for short or bubba, bubby, bubsy, buddy, stinker, stinky, stink a dink, cutie patootie, little stinker, Jackus, Jackus sprackus, Jack sprat, Jack a roo.... He comes to just about anything. LOL

lil fu fu girl 05-04-2010 07:51 PM

My little girl always has a scrunchie in her hair, and the little girls of the neighborhood could not remember her real name, Andromeda; so they started calling her," Lil fu fu girl". It just kind of stuck!

nicolecicle 05-05-2010 06:41 AM

My morkie's name is Tanner. When we met with the breeder he stuck out the most to me. He looked perfect. I took me a little while to figure out what to call him. He is black with tan legs and a tan face, his tail also has tannish highlights. So I decided to name him Tanner. We call him Tan Tan, The Tan Man, Tan Tan the Man Man and Goofy, because he is "goofy" Looking back I don't think I could have picked a better name for him.

:animal-pa Nicole and Tanner

Our mutt Marvin was named by the Humane Society and we never changed it...We call him Marv, Marvolo, marvin the moron (when he is dopey) Marvin the Martian from the Looney Toons Cartoon

The little Yorkie we found was so scruffy when we picked him up off the street we named him Fizz-gig after the little "dog" thing in the Movie "The Dark Crystal" We call him fizz, fizzy, fizzelsprung, and Fizzel Wizzel, and lil bit

boo-boo 05-05-2010 10:09 AM

When I got Boo Boo i was camping for the summer with my family. As soon as I got him to the campsite he instantly bonded with my Aunt's cocker spaniel, who sorta adopted him as her own. From day one he followed Coco everywhere she went, it reminded me of Yogi and Boo Boo, hence his name.

misslissa 05-05-2010 11:20 AM

Cerise 05-05-2010 12:59 PM

I planned on naming my :aimeeyork baby Cerise... which is French for cherry. I LOVE all things French and it is a part of my heritage. The amazing thing is that her wonderful breeder had named her first...hot pink puppy (which is my favorite color ;)) to mark and identify her by, when she was born, and then days later changed it to Cerise... before I even joined YT. I joined with her name already chosen and was willing to wait for the right Yorkie to fill my heart. One day I saw a post in the Yorkie for sale/wanted section and was in shock  When I saw her with her name and realized she was named before I joined I knew it was fate, and she was MY :aimeeyork BABY :D

That's such a cute story, I think kids can make such cute nicknames; I love the name "Lil fu fu girl!"

Wow, what a cool story, I'm sure you believe in fate!

bloominsuz 05-05-2010 02:52 PM

Our lil girl is named Shayna. After changing her name about 3x, I just kept thinking how beautiful she was, so I remembered my grandma used to call me Shayna Punim when I was growing up, which means Beautiful Face in yiddish and that was it. So that's my reminder of my Grandma, my heritage and love of this beautiful face.
