| my scared puppy Hello everyone, I have a question and hope someone can help me.Cody is 4months old and he's afraid of other dogs. I exposed Cody to my sister in laws Doberman and Cody wanted to play and he didn't so he barked really loud and scared Cody off. It seems everytime I bring him near anyother dogs he gets in a submissive postion with his ears back and backs away. I don't know what else to do. Jasmine |

| Patience and lots of opportunities to help Cody build his confidence. We had to do the same thing with Soph and it's taken us months to get her to where she'll willingly be around other dogs. She's still not really playing with them but at least she's not running away terrified any more and will even go up to them and trade sniffs. Start with play dates with just one other dog the same size as Cody so he's not overwhelmed and give lots of praise (and treats) while they're together, even if they don't really play together at first. In the beginning you may have to hold him and treat if he even looks at the other dog and then build from there. Pretty soon he'll learn to associate other dogs with positive things but be prepared because it may take a while. |
