So, "putting the past behind" as you said. Yes, a neutered male will still on occasion try to mount an unspayed female in heat. As far as your fiend's dog having complications from 'not having sex.' I find that a bit hard to believe. IF it is the case, neutering the dog would have solved the problem...so, not a valid argument.

Not to mention, what were the complications? I would have to say the benefits of neutering far out way the benefits of not!

OK, none of these are the reasons I wanted Zeke to mate with Zoe, 1 1/2 yrs from now. You are probably going to prefer that I had one of those reasons.....

He's a male, I'm a male. I keep thinking that he would love having sex once before he grows old.. A few days ago, he had bulges in front of his testicles. The Vet told me last year that, that would happen. A build up of fluid. The Vet said Zeke would release it(?)

My wife spends 24 hrs a day with the dogs. You can't get any more attention or love than that.. After 30 seconds with Zoe this morning, Zoe became a member of the family forever..

According to scientists only two animals have sex for pleasure. One is humans, the other is the bonobo. These are the only two animals that will breed at any time in a cycle whether the female is fertile or not. Is it pleasurable for other animals, I suppose no one knows for sure, but the fact that they only breed for the purpose of procreation indicates that the act of mating for animals is a totally different process than for humans and I don't think we should be comparing their feelings to our own.
Whether or not you choose to breed your dogs at some point is not any of my business. Every time I breed one of my girls, I am taking a chance that she may die. That is not a decision that I take lightly. It would not be fair to her or showing her love, if I made the decision to breed her so that my male could experience sex. As I doubt that you will be able to find a vet that will perform a vasectomy on a tiny dog, especially when that is a procedure that they have probably never done before, sex for your female will probably lead to pups and a risk to her life every time your male has sex for his pleasure.

I had forgotten what can happen at the end of a mating session. I have a LOT of reading to do in the breeding forum.. and everywhere else. MY dogs health is first on my list.
One of the Best things I ever did for my wife was walk unexpectantly into the living room on our anniversary with Zeke in my arms.
