Open Communication About a month ago I had a person gave my name. This person was looking for a puppy cause her yorkie had died. Then the person had financial problems and did not want a puppy. No big deal happens- I have been there. Within two days I am contacted about breeding. Each time I talk to this person more information pops out that makes me wonder about this person. I am interviewed and questioned like I am going on the Supreme Court. Seems she does not have a Regular vet, has more yorkies then she first stated, has other breeds of dogs. She needs to come and check out my dogs and where they are kept and the records I keep. LOL go for it. I asked what would be a good day for me to come to her home and see her dogs. Oh my goodness what yelling and screaming- she had never been so insulted in her life that I wanted to come to her home. Who did I think that I was- she had never been so insulted in all her life. Good breeders never do such things. It was my laugh for the week. Needless to say did not breed her gal.

I can't believe she asked to see your records. That is really weird! If she had asked to talk to your references or your vet - great! That would be perfectly fine, but your records. Hummmm. You had every right to see her place. Once you let her breed to your stud - you are then associated with her through the pups. I am glad you called it quites with her. I think it would have only been a mess in the end and you don't need that. T.

Good for you. They either Abbide by your request or they must move to the greener grass on the other side.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | wow..good thing you found out she's a maniac before it went further ! I can't believe some people - it's pretty important that you are comfortable and she should be going out of her way to make you feel good about everything - sure sounds like she wasn't all she said to begin with & was mad cause you probably knew it. |

I thought that this might help newbies who want to breed. It needs to be a two way door. You want to check the breeder out and as the breeder you should want to check this person out. If someone states that I can not come to thier home flags go up- as to what they may be hiding or not want you to know. I always ask about thier vet - when I am told that they don't have a vet when they have a dog or cat it should make you wonder why. When they tell you they go here and there no one in particular- run as far and as fast as you can from that person. I often give my vet as a reference. I also ask someone who wants to breed - how old they have sold previous puppies- if I am told under 8 weeks of age I state that it is in my breeding contract that puppies can not be sold until at least 10 weeks and that I prefer 12. If they agree great- if they don't we don't breed. Kathy

The more you breed the more that you will find some of these behaviors with clients to be. Newbies need to know about all the strange things that can and will come up over time. This will let them know what to expect and what to watch out for. There are a lot of nut cases out there.
