| Nikie - my first baby Yorkie Hello to all Yorkie lovers, Nikie is my first Yorkie. I had mini-pincher tons of years ago, so it is new and exciting experience to me, a whole new world. Yes, of have ton of different questions in regards to - should I give her a fresh carrots; should I give her a cottage cheese or any dairy? She got a bladder infection, so is it common? She is 3.6 pounds at 5 month old, so how big she might be. The biggest question right now is - to spray or not to spray if I am working full time and if she is so tiny. So, before I making any decisions, I am looking for answers on Internet, but I think the place where the most Yorkie lovers are must be the best place to ask. So, you might can direct me in where to find info. I attach a picture of 15 weeks old Nikie I have on this computer. She is a pound bigger now. Thank you and have a great day! |

I will try to help with some of your questions.. as for her size. .. according to the "charts" she will most likely end up around 4 lbs.. maybe up to 5 lbs.. BUT keep in mind that the charts make a liar out of us all the time.. some stop growing by 6 months.. others have a growth spurt AFTER 6 months... as for to spay or not to spay. My recommendation is to spay. Unless you are a breeder and are willing to do all of the testing, learning, and honest evaluating.. it is best to have her spayed and leave the breeding to those that are willing to do it the RIGHT way. Spaying certainly will keep your baby healthy and help prevent health problems down the road. Some people are afraid to spay because they do not want to put a little one under the anesthetic... but my take on that is do the pre-OP bloodwork.. it will help eleviate your fears and will tell if your baby is ok to undergo the procedure. Good luck and again.. welcome. PS.. small amounts of fresh carrots are good as well as SMALL amounts of cottage cheese... I wouldn't give her milk though as it could cause an upset tummy

| Hello and Welcome to YT! I agree with everything Sunnie suggested. Yorkies are a entirely different breed than most and they need special care. Good Luck on the new addition to your family! |
