Beware of unethical breeders *Some details have been left out to protect the new owner...just in case the 'breeder' she adopted her new fur baby from is a member here.* I've been busy the past few weeks yorkie sitting for a dear friend. She just adopted a Yorkie girl that was used for breeding. She's been bred twice (from what the breeder says:rolleyes:) & both those times, had c-sections. She wasn't spayed after her 2nd c-sect. All her pups from the 1st litter died bc of over medication by the vet. 2nd litter, only one out of 4 survived...(not a money maker, so she let her go). Her teeth were so bad, the worst plague build up I've ever seen. Her knees pop every time I picked her up. She's not house broken. She 'marks' all my fur babies' pee & poo. She paces endlessly back & forth, back & forth, making me dizzy. I believe this is from being in a crate most of her life (24-7).:( Surprisingly, her AKC pedigree is filled w/Champions, including some very famous lines, which I won't name. She got spayed & had her dental cleaning while she was here. She also had an x-ray for her knees. Our vet said she had lots of scar tissues from her past c-sects. One of her knees are a grade 3, going to grade 4 & her other knee is a grade 3. Her knees are out 90% of the time & she'll need surgery. The inner bones are so worn out, she's bow legged. This infuriates me. Now, this poor girl will have a peaceful happy life w/her new loving family. Many are not so lucky. If you're looking for a new puppy, please please please do your research. Make sure you get the pup from a reputable breeder. Don't support these unethical 'breeders'. Stop this cycle of abuse. |
I am happy to see this girl is in a great home now. Thanks for the post, I hope people will read it and learn how important the breeder is. |
So sad, but I'm glad this little one has now found a forever home! IMO, these types of stories need to be repeated over and over so they can reach as many as possible! The more we can save, the better we will be! |
Happy the lil girl has found her forever home :) Great post Jenny...another reminder to do your homework before buying... |

That poor baby. Thank you for sharing her story, Jenny. These little ones deserve so much better. I'm glad she's found a good, loving home to spend her life with. |
About her pedigree having multiple Champions, I think it's a very important eye opener. Just bc the pups come from CH lines, doesn't mean they're quality pups & most importantly doesn't make the breeder a reputable one. I wouldn't be surprised if the papers were altered. Even our vet said, 'I wouldn't be surprised if all her breeding stock has some sort of problem.' She didn't come w/shot records, so we called her repeatedly & left her messages. She never called back. |
That is so sad. I am glad that she is getting to live a life of what she deserves now, full love, warmth and comfort. Hugs to you and your friend for showing her that there is so much more to living than in a crate and making babies. |
Poor little girl. I'm so glad that your friend has adopted her and will give her the very best life possible. Of course she will have you to help guide her for success. Is she going to join YT? We would love to meet her and see her new little one. :) |
My friend is actually the lady that adopted Turbo & Princess from me. She had to return them to me bc she had severe rheumatoid arthritis. Being active puppies, she had a hard time raising them. Well, she's been devoting her life to Yorkies for over 21 yrs, so she couldn't live w/out one. She's just now recovering from hip replacement surgery, the reason why her fur baby was w/us for a few weeks. She's a little wiser than me, & not computer savvy.:p I will tell her all the support she's been getting from YT.;) |
:( That is terrible for her to have been treated that way and have all those issues! I hope she recovers well and has a happy life from here on. Is it wrong for you to tell who the breeder was that she came from? I would think people need to know so they will not buy a puppy from this unethical breeder. |

Jenny, I'd just like to say that the comment about the CH's in her pedigree. People need to be careful when stating things like that because it all depends on where the CH's are in her pedigree. Plenty of top breeders have been duped by trusting someone only to have them agree to spay/neuter a pup and then didn't/don't. They bred them and and used the CH to sell puppies. So unless the pedigree is entirely made up of top lines - I don't think I'd say a name. JMO |

I didn't reveal who the breeder was since my friend cannot come on here herself. I will ask her for permission. All I know is that she's based out in Missouri & her mother also breeds here, in California. |
I hope she gives you permission to say who this breeder is. People need to be aware of the practices of unethical people. Especially if this breeder is a member of YT. |
Thanks for posting.. |
I was hesitant of posting the adopted girl's story bc I didn't want this story to be one of those that gets heated & take a life of it's own. I want this thread to remain neutral, yet be informative & educational. The important thing here, is to learn & know what the red flags are & when to walk away. Signs of unethical breeders. Please feel free to add onto the list. These are just random ones that I can think of at the moment right out of my head, so they're not in any particular order. 1. Breeder will not show mother or father or the environment they live in. 2. Poor communication, no return calls, not detail oriented. 3. Check the adult's teeth, overall condition. If the breeder cares for her dog's health, esp those of breeding stock, they will be well taken care of. 4. Never purchase a puppy over the internet w/out #1. Go see the mom & dad, siblings & their living environment. Plus, a responsible reputable breeder will want to meet the new family. Sometimes the dad will not be around if they used a stud. Ask to see pictures & other info. |
Sometimes things are not always so obvious anymore. Champion lines and contracts are again one of those things that do not always guarantee you a healthy pet. I am greatful that you post this..It shows you care not only for the people who are looking for a healthy pet but also for the well being of the pets in question..Thanks again!! |

On her site, she shows & states that she strives to breed to the standard. It's not all it seems & most do not see the poor living situations, in cages unsocialized, breeding until they're not 'needed' anymore. I didn't tell the whole story, but my friend actually adopted two girls from Rose. I was shocked at the condition they were in. They're young, Fanny (one w/the bad knees) being 5 & Shilo only 2 almost 3 (not sure of her age). They both had peridontal disease & Shilo had two teeth extractions from decay. They were placed w/out being spayed, anybody could have adopted them. |

Do you know how they found there way to CA and where it was posted? |
It's Michigan, sorry my mistake. My friend's husband found them on the internet & she was coming to California to visit her mother & she dropped them off at their new home. |

Either of wo things could have happened. A show kennel may be selling their dogs anywhere or depending how far back in the pedigree the champions appear, show breeders could have been fooled by someone they dealt with who in turn sold everywhere. This is why so many show breeders are very careful with their lines and try to make sure they do not deal with a kennel such as this one this poor girl came from or try to be sure they don't deal with someone who would deal with this type of kenne. i am not sure if this girl actually came from a show breeder? I sure hope not. |

And what is her kennel name? Also, did your friend contact the breeder to tell her about the LP and dental problems? I'm just curious as to what the breeder's response was. I don't condone this kind of breeding - I just wanted to make sure that other breeders weren't included in this disclosure if it wasn't directly related to their breeding. And yes, just because someone has a CH it does not guarantee that they have the best dogs. The best dog doesn't always win at the shows, either. As many have said here - check out the breeder first. This is sad and I hope that we find out who's line the LP is coming from. |
Rose Edwards? Is this her? Michigan Yorkies Puppy Breeder MI Yorkshire Terrier Puppies For Sale Yorkie Breeders |
tread softly Something about this thread doesn't add up---This is a breeder-exhibitor who is unlikely to have deceived her way into getting the class of dogs she has. We wouldn't want to look like harpies, would we? |
