Jen, you are breaking my heart. He looks so sad... I feel so terrible for him. He really deserves to be spoiled. Those owners make me sick to my stomach. The poor angel.

Would it be okay with you if I sent you a black cuddlenest for him? They are super soft and would be super comfy for him since he can't move around a whole lot. And it would be soft on his skin and little ears too.

Jen, Forrest is so lucky to have you in his life right now. He needs a lot of TLC and medical attention and I'm sure you'll make sure he gets both! Bless you for taking him in. Poor little guy!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see his improvements.

Oh this makes me heartsick, I'm so glad that megansmama knows something about the ears, the picture look so similar, and maybe this little guy has a fighting chance. Bless you all for what you are doing for these poor little things, I so wish we could tell the breeder about this little guy, and see what she has to say.

OMG, Thank you for saving this poor baby. I just want to cry for this baby and the human one that people who could do this would have. I just can't believe how anyone can do this. I don't get it. Again THANK GOD for people like you.

People like that make me sick! How can you hurt a dog like that? I mean really! They should be viewed as family not as throw away entertainment!

Dogs are far cheaper than babies, so if they can afford a baby then this is just sad and shocking :( The poor little guy :( If you make a committment to own a pet then you should be able to look after it no matter what.

Shame and they can't talk and tell you how they are feeling so it's wonderful that he has someone like you to love him and look after him and get him the tests and medical help he needs - I wish you all the best and keep us posted about his recovery. They all deserve a second chance :)

Oh my goodness :( I live in South Africa and I have never seen this site before. I have not found any Yorkie adoption centers here so this saddens me :( Shame, and so many of them have medical issues :( my respect just went from 100% to 200%...

This is so heartbreaking. I've never seen ears so bad...that poor baby. I've read of leather ear and I wonder if a dog got that and wasn't treated for it, if it would turn out like that. I feel so bad for Forrest...there is no excuse for anyone neglecting a helpless little dog! Gosh...I feel just sick, but so thankful that he is now in your arms and things can only get better for him. Hugs to you for being his angel!

Ok reading that this may have been a result of leather ears really scares me because Mei Ling and I have been battling this for some time...and reading that it not treated it could cause the ears to crust up and fall off like Forrest scares me....and i don't want people to think i am abusing Mei Ling although her hair is growing back some on there after cleaning it for months with rubbing alcohol and apply 1% lotrimin cream...but it still isn't 100% and probably may never be 100%.

Can someone confirm that this is a result of leather ears? Thanks

Jen, when we talked yesterday I must've been so focused on this baby being virtually paralyzed for 3 1/2 YEARS that I didn't realize how bad his ears really are. I've never seen anything like that, and pieces are actually breaking off from the edges? :eek: This poor little man. I can't tell you how happy I am that he's with you now, filling his little tummy and gaining strength. I kept thinking about him last night, praying for him and hoping for good news from the vet. Please give him lots of extra hugs and kisses from me.

I hope you do report his previous owners. What they've done to this boy is beyond cruel. :mad:

My heart and mind DO NOT understand human beings at times. How could they just let a living thing suffer so badly. I hope you have time to turn them in because I am terrified of them having a baby. Hearts that could ignore a suffering animal in their home certainly are not hearts that will be patient and loving with a newborn. Thank GOD that Forrest was rescued by you. Please keep us posted so we know how the little guy is progressing. God bless you for caring enough to add another furbaby to your care.

For those "people" to let little Forest suffer like this is just outrageous, I hope they will be charged with cruelty to animals. And they are having a human baby?? I just want to scream & kick, I wish I could do to them what they did to Forrest. Thank God you have him now & he will get some help. But those ears, with pieces falling off! Do you think they will have to amputate his ears?

You know, everyone that has seen Forrest, after their initial expression of love and concern for him, their very next words are something like ......wish I could slap them, do you want to go beat them up, wish I could spend just 5 minutes knocking them around...... you get the idea - in my dreams the abusers get what they deserve!

Awww...Jen, you know my favorites are these special needs babies. I know he is in good hands with you. His ears do look really bad. I had one with leather ear and hers looked similar but not as bad. I used Eucerin Calming Creme on her. She was adopted and when I saw her last I couldn't believe it. Her ears had healed and she had a beautiful coat of hair. Oh wait, it was Rosie, you probably remember her. I think her improved diet help a ton. Good luck with your little man and my prayers for him to heal quickly.

Mary, believe me this is related to Forrest's horrible physical condition, a liver condition, he is extremely malnourished, has low thyroid, and I don't think you have to worry about Mei Ling's ears ever looking even somewhat close to this.

Sarah....you're an angel..lol....I seem to keep telling you that:) So for now on, that's what I'm telling the foster kids - they have a guardian angel named Sarah:)

You know one time I noticed that one of my chi girls had very thin hair on her legs and ears and one ear was only partially up and that wasn't normal for her. I assumed that was part of her aging and her coloration because she is a white chihuahua with pink eyes and the liver color nose. Anyway....at the time we were feeding all the Chi's Nutro max ultra which I thought was a good food for weight control. At some point during this time we took them off weight control food and put them on to Merrick's and one day I noticed that LilyB had hair back on legs and ears!!!! That stunned me because what it told me was that the other food we were feeding with such good intention and actually been depriving her and the others of certain nutrients she desperately needed! Her ears are also both standing and another chi with a drooping ear is no longer drooping.

The moral of the story is that some dogs are more sensitive to ingredients of food than others but even the high $$$ foods are not necessarily the best foods. Also when you are buying a diet food they may be skimping or missing out on necessary nutrients to keep calories down.
Do you research on foods and watch your babies for reactions to even the best.

Thank you. I'm sure part of Forrest's general ill health is because of the low quality food he is eating. But, even more than the quality was the fact that he hasn't been eating much of the food they fed him. He really can't get to his food bowl very easily on his own - it's kind of hit and miss for him.

I've been checking him at least hourly, putting his food and water in front of his mouth. Most times he will eat then and I believe when he is thirsty he drinks too. His weight and hydration have already improved just from the few days he has been here and getting food/water consistently. Soon I will introduce a better food for him but it will have to be done slowly.

I'm sorry Jodi....I know you're name isn't Meagan! I am slow this morning as I am most mornings:)
