| ![]() Hey I was trying to do something nice and trying to give back to the community...I found this ad on CL, someone needed help watching their puppy while they are in the process of moving from thursday to sunday. I offered to help and the dog was a pomeranian puppy- 8 weeks old. The dog was UTD on shots. I am kind of worried because the dog had worms in his carrier when I gave him back to his owner!!! There were live worms coming out of his butt! What should I do to make sure my babies are okay? They just had a vet check on Friday! I am so mad for offering free pet sitting and having to face consequences after a trying to do something nice. We COULD NOT get any sleep, that dog cries and whines like no other! I would never get a pomeranian after that experience, I will be sticking to yorkies for now. After that, my bf said NO PUPPY, so we are getting a 6 months old maltese...

| ![]() UTD on shots at eight weeks old? Puppies do get worms, obviously he needed worming. Sorry he kept you up all night but at 8wks old (he should have been with his mommy) and in a strange house I would expect no sleep. It was nice of you to offer to watch the pup tho. |

| ![]() You were nice. 8 weeks old is not old enough to have had all their shots and yes can have worms. Did you let the puppy play with yours?

| ![]() I'm so sorry. I'd have my babies checked to be safe.

| ![]() I'm so sorry that happened, but if your puppies interacted with this puppy I would just go ahead a have them treated. Testing doesn't always detect the worms - anyway that's what I have read. I posted this on a thread in the Sick & Injured section. Someone else had a problem, too. ![]() There are two types of Roundworms and they are the most common Worm infestation in dogs – and puppies in particular. The symptoms of Roundworms include: pot-belly appearance, diarrhea, vomiting, dull coat and weight loss. You may even see this type of Worm in your dogs vomit or feces. They look like pieces of spaghetti up to 6 inches long or longer. All puppies should be regularly wormed from two weeks of age (and all adult dogs wormed every year) to guard against roundworms. Puppies should continue to be dewormed every 3 weeks for the best results. This type of Worm is usually treated with oral medication, with follow-up fecal screenings. This is one of the types of Worms that can be transferred to humans, but good hygiene will usually eliminate this threat. If you have a puppy, make sure to pick up his feces and make sure you encourage your children to wash their hands after playing with the new puppy. Routine deworming of the new puppy and good hygiene are the best for preventing any problems with you and your family.

Hun it has nothing to do with the breed. The fact is its just a baby and should still be with its mommy, being in a strange place, having worms would make me whine all night too. It was very nice of you to offer your help. but no way would a 8 week puppy have all its shots, just its first booster shots. | |

| ![]() Was just wondering if you told the owners ? What was their response ? I'd whine too, w/all those worms crawling around in me. |

| ![]() They saw the worms too. I never saw any worms until I gave the dog back to them, she spotted something in the carrier. She opened it up and saw a roundworm and another hanging from his behind. It was really gross. My puppy are 6 + 8 months old and they have already been dewormed and stuff. I always check their poop, it seems normal. They are still the same before the other dog came. Should I give them a deworming anyways? Thanks for the help!
