| CKC vs. AKC registration Can you tell me what's the difference? Why AKC is more preferred? I am looking to get a maltese and most of the ones I have come across have CKC or APRI...Enlighten me with your knowledge please

| This is all my opinion but "MOST" Continental Kennel Club breeders use CKC because they will register almost anything.. AKC has been around longer and supposedly has stricter guidelines but what it all boils down to now a days is a piece of paper. I have an IBC and CKC male that is my stud and when he is bred to my AKC female, I have no choice but to register them CKC. Now I consider myself to be a good breeder and I use CKC because of my situation but if I wanted to and if I was a bad person, I could use the AKC papers on my very out of standard ugly duckling male who is neutered and register all of my puppies AKC that are sired by my IBC male and noone would ever know. AKC as I have learned no longer cares about the way breeders breed but in how much money they get from their registration fees. I contacted AKC once about a very bad breeder and they told me they didn't have enough people in my area to deal with it.. Of all the dogs in my home, the ugliest one, while I love him dearly, is AKC registered so I believe that it is just as easy to get false AKC papers on a dog as it is to get CKC ones. I truly believe that there are good AKC breeders out there but I also believe that there are good CKC ones as well. I think that the most important thing that you have to consider is the health of the pup, the rep of the breeder, the guarantee given and then the registration. Unless of coarse you are interested in showing, then I recommend an AKC only breeder.. Here is a thread that I started about my frustration regarding AKC vs CKC if you are interested in reading it, it might explain it a little better. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...e-get-out.html |

| If all you are finding is CKC and APRI Maltese puppies, you are looking the wrong place. California has some wonderful Maltese breeders. The AMA has a breeder referral list: American Maltese Association Breeder Referral If you care to pm me, I can send you the names of other reputable breeders in California. |
