I have switched from chlorine bleach to ODO BAN. Comes in a gallon jug and it makes 11 gallons. I get it at Home Depot. It's so nice and I just love the clean smell. I even put it in spray bottles and keep them under the kitchen and bathroom sinks to clean with. Just love it!! It's very safe too and no streaking.

Nothing chemical. My mom uses chemical cleaners on the floor and they made my one year old very sick. When I lived out on my own my roomies and I used a steam cleaner on the kitchen and bathroom floors. It really does deep clean and it's just water so it's not harmful for our furbabies. You have a different ex-pen than the one I used so I have no advice there. For carpets use Nature's Miracle. It's a spot on treatment that kills the smell, but use it as directed (soak up as much as you can, spray, then let it sit for 5 mins) otherwise the enzymes aren't given a chance to work properly.

Oh and it kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria. A really great product for sure!

Yea, defiantly vinegar it disinfects and cleans. It's not harmful to your pets. I buy it (2) 2 gallons bottles at a time from Sam's club, they last awhile. I pour it into med spray bottles.

For cleaning pee/poop you need something like Natures Miracle. For just regular cleaning I would use a steam mop. Sanitizes using only water. No chemicals. He will lick the floor.

I use water and vinegar as well and put it in spray bottles too. I also do a bleach and water twice a month and keep them off the floors until they are dry.

I use vinegar and water on my kitchen floor too - it's also good for urine spots - I have 2 fake grass pads on my patio - I use a teaspoon of bleach in a 10 gallon container - or I use vinegar 1/2 and 1/2 water

I use bleach spray in the potty pen, then rinse with water. I use bleach nowhere else because I do not want any other place to smell like her potty pen. In the house I use Lysol wipes and on my laminate floors I use Lysol spray or just Windex. I rinse afterwards. Areas where she eats and licks the floor I rinse off very well and dry.

I just have to share my thoughts on enzyme cleaners. These are cleaners that you spray on floors, carpets, couches, whatever, to take the urine smell out(or whatever it is that the dog can apparently still smell). The idea is so the dog doesn't pee there again. IMO this product is a money grab and this is why I think so. Many people do not wipe there dogs pee string after they pee. For those of us who do, we can tell you that the pee string is wet, and the Kleenex we wipe it with gets wet and yellow. If a dog comes in and does not get wiped, that dog will lay on the floor or rug or couch and the pee will just dab off the string onto the surface it is against. I have seen this, a dog gets up and little wet spot is left on the floor. It drys on the floor, rug , couch whatever and its there for how long? If the theory that a dog will just pee because it smells its urine there is correct, dogs would never seemed potty trained. But dogs do potty train and many don't get wiped. I have never used enzyme cleaners and always had quick potty trained dogs. I think it is a total waste of money.

So that said, crating and scheduled potty breaks(actually write it all down, food times and potty times, after a couple of days a pattern forms and it is much easier) keeps a dog from going on the floor.

Sorry got off topic there a bit but I think some of it answers some thoughts in another thread.

Also, so glad you're still here. I am so excited for you and your new baby.

I agree with you. Kaji is trained to let me know when he has piddled in the pad. As soon as he sees the wipe in my hand he lays down and allows me to wipe him clean. He will lay there until I say "All better" or something similar. So for me, the enzyme cleaner works because I don't allow him to sit on the couch, or anywhere until after he is cleaned. He will wait at the door of the bathroom until he gets my attention, shows me he had piddled so he can get clean. I've been doing this everyday for 8 months so he know this routine really really well. Even when we lived in a better place and he was outside trained he knew the first thing we did was wipe him done after coming inside. The only difference is I use doggie wipes. I use to use baby wipes or wipes made for humans but it's not Ph balanced for their skin, even the sensitive ones, and his "Mr Peeper" sheath was getting red and irritated. I switched to puppy wipes or moisturizing bath wipes and my problem was solved.

I agree, vinegar water is best! I use nothing but vinegar water to clean my floors. It smells for a little while but it does a great job!

I use bleach water. Vinegar takes care of odors but does not disinfect. Bleach evaporates, so If you wait until the floor is dry before putting the puppy back on it, it will not make him sick.
