I have. Unfortunately it is pretty standard with a lot breeders (mainly breeders with kennels and lots of dogs) these days to give Neopar at 4-5 weeks, and some give shots every 2 weeks after that. Neopar is for Parvo and it is a high titer so it breaks through the mothers immunity given to the pup

My guess he got neopar at 4 weeks and then a combo shot at 6 weeks before he was illegally flown.

My Pennie got her first puppy shot at 7 weeks and she couldn't have another one until she was 14 weeks because she had been so sick. My vet said as long as they have at least 2 vaccines by 14 weeks they will be fine. So we never got the third, Normally I recommend 3 vaccinations by 14 weeks and that is what I give my own as well..

Then I give a booster at a year and no more for 2 years. They say 3 years is fine, but I don't trust that 100% yet so I compromise and do it every 2.;)

Giving shots that young is a really scary thought :( I just don't understand how people in this world can be out for the $ and not for what is best for the pup/new owners... I guess I should consider myself lucky that I know my breeder is completely in love with those pups and would never do anything to harm them. She's nervous about giving shots at 10 weeks, let alone 4... and these pups are almost all on the larger side, my girl is already 3 pounds.

I agree completely. But the breeders I personally know who give the Neopar really are not making more money by giving the extra or early shots. They are terrified of parvo and think they are doing what is best for the puppies. Some don't realize giving 2 or 3 vaccines by 8 weeks isn't only not needed but a waste of $$..

However, the neopar vaccine does actually help the puppy. And some of the breeders with kennels and many dogs have to really be careful of parvo because it can wipe out all of their puppies. But there should be no need for any more shots until 8-10 weeks when the puppy combo is given

The vet told me I need to come back in 3 weeks which will make him 10 weeks to get him another set of shots..is that acurate?

Yes.. But this should be the first vaccine and not the 3rd. What vaccines has he had so far? and when?

Every three weeks is right, but he shouldn't be finishing his shots at 10 weeks. He should just be starting them. He won't be protected. Did you see my other post with the study results? He needs his last round of shots around 18 weeks when they are 95% effective. He is - and will be - at a very high risk for deadly diseases, especially parvo. He is only about 25% protected now.

Please, please go back and read my other post.

So instead of getting them at 10 weeks I should wait until 18 weeks to get it done?

Samuel-Samy 03-23-2010 03:57 AM

Samy got his first shot when he was really young. Then when I bought him I went to the vet to get the second round of shots - he was 16 weeks old (3 months and a half) - and his final third shot he got at 4 months and 1 week old (March 2nd) and on March 20th he turned 5 months.

How is DJ doing? He is soo very cute.. i want to see more pics of him!!

Is he keeping you up at night? Have you been able to get some sleep lately?

No don't wait, you should get his next vaccine when the vet said it was due.(at 10 weeks right?)

However, I would get one more to be on the safe side by the time he is 14 weeks:animal-pa

You can't wait that long inbetween. He'll probably need a fourth round of vaccinations since they were started so soon. Ask your vet.

I am new here so I don't know about the advice given that you didn't follow. However, the first couple of nights Raley was home with us he slept in the bed. After those two nights, I made up my mind that I was going to continue the crate training that he was already accustomed to. I put his kennel in our bedroom and he would whine once during the night. I would get him up to go potty on his designated pee pad and place him back in his kennel. He now sleeps in his kennel in the living room. He goes potty at night before kenneling up and does not make a peep until we get up in the morning. He comes straight out of his kennel and goes potty. I also don't let him have unlimited food through out the day. I feed him 3 times a day and maybe a fourth time if he still seems hungry.

Good luck! To break a bad habit you will need to begin TODAY so it will be easier to break. Don't put it off!

I got shot records showing that he got shots at 4 weeks and 6 weeks. And the vet told me to come back in 3 week.

I put her in a small kennel and then put it on my bed so she could see me, but be safe. When she would wake me, I took her to a small bathroom and let her use a puddle pad and have a drink, then it was right back to the kennel. She did better with this. It wasn't long before she made it though the night. Now she sleeps with me and if she needs to use a pad, she justs walks up and down on me until I wake up and put her on the floor. She will use her pad and come back to be picked up. I hope this helps.

You and I must think alike. I have 4 yorkies. 3 sleep in the bed with us. But Blazer my youngest one is 11 months old and really tiny. He weighs 3 pounds, and I'm afraid to let him get in the bed with us, for fear he might fall off the bed or get squished! So I cleared off my nightstand and put a small kennel on it. It's like right beside my pillow, I think he can actually smell me! It didn't take long for him to get used to it, because I think he liked the coziness of it. He's got his silkie blankie in there, so it's really cushie. I just put him on the table and he walks in!

Great minds and all that. I just try to do what makes her happy and that usually makes me happy too. Besides is there any better sight first thing in the morning.:D:D:D:D:D:D
