I have a few questions about DJ's vet visit that I do not think have been answered. 1. You said that the vet gave him a clean bill of health. What type of tests did your vet do? Did he get any vaccinations? Did they do a fecal? 2. They sold you a tooth brush? At 6 weeks does he even have teeth to brush? What are you using to brush his teeth? 3. Did the vet confirm that he was only 6 weeks old? Is the picture in your avatar DJ since that puppy looks a little older than the 6 weeks. As for the advice that you have been given~you said in past threads that you blocked but some of the very best advice that you were given came from VERY experienced breeder/members of YT. I surely hope that you are able to read, learn and take their advice for DJ's well being. If I were in your shoes I would not only be posting my questions on the open forum but PMing them for any and all additional advice they would be willing to offer you now that you have him home. :) |

I'll get these to you today |

Look I'm not going to argue this point. It is my opinion that the puppy would be just fine if he were in a crate on a table by the bed so he couldn't roll or get kicked off the bed. He would still be eye height and you could keep a good eye on him all night. And don't be ridiculous I wasn't implying that a "human" baby would go into a dog crate. But it would be just as foolish in my opinion to put the baby on the bed in ANY carrier, because it could get hurt. __________________________________________________ _____ __________________________________________________ _____ May I interject something...jmdt did not call you foolish. She stated that the act of putting a baby on the bed in any type of carrier was foolish, not you. NatNatt posted on anothet thread that she got it all worked out , and actually had a good night sleep.:) |
Thank you, Princes Mom, for letting us know about the other thread. I was wondering what had happened last night and didn't realize that she had started another thread. I assumed she would update back on this thread. I hope she comes back and let's us know what the vet said. I'm curious. :) |
It's kinda funny...I was wondering the same thing.....Do DJ even have teeth yet to be brushed??!! Also, if I was that vet I would have a few concerns about how someone soooo inexperienced come to aquire a puppy from sooo far away soooo young??!! Just wonderin'.......lol |

As mine got older (my SONS not yorkies) we used to have slumber parties....it was like a special night to sleep in moms bed - we'd stay up and watch wrestling and eat popcorn in bed. THOSE were the days ! |

They Did not do any shots because he already got 2 sets of shots and I will get him his third in 3 weeks. And yes, of course he has teeth LOL they said if you dont start nhohw brushing his teeth then when he gets older he will never let you so its good to start now...so I can def see where they are coming from. They told me I should bursh then EVERYDAY. The vet did not confirm that he was 6 weeks. He is now 7 weeks but if you say he looks older then that will be ok with me. And yes that is DJ in my picture. Hope that answered all your questions... |

Those were the days, you are right  |
Two sets of shots already and he's only 7 weeks old? |
Quote:
That's what I was thinking! I'm getting my puppy in 2 weeks, she'll be 12 weeks old and will only have ONE set of shots. My vet told me they get their first set at TEN weeks old, and then 2 more sets, 4 weeks apart. Sooo many things sure aren't adding up here. Even IF shots are given at different age intervals, I have never, ever heard of a 7 week old Yorkie having 2 sets already. |

Also, I am a foster mom and had a little guy once that we were told was 12 weeks old. When I took him to the vet I was told that he was closer to 5 or 6 weeks old because his teeth were just starting to come in. The reason that I asked you about the picture in your avatar is that DJ looks much older than the 6 weeks that you have been told. So really what you are showing me and saying is that obviously this puppy is not 6 to 7 weeks old like you were told. DJ must be at least several weeks older than you think that he is. A vet can tell a lot just by looking at a dogs teeth and in particular how old they by the size, eruption of puppy or adult teeth, how mush tartar has accumulated on an adult dog teeth, and finally how worn they are when they become adults and finally seniors. So as you can see this was not a funny question but very legitimate and as you have stated in other threads he is from a shady breeder. It would not be unheard of for a breeder not to be truthful about the age of a puppy. |
This puppy should just be beginning his vaccinations in three weeks, not completing them. Puppies get immunities from their mother through nursing which attack and kill the viruses in the vaccinations if given too soon. In one study of a cross section of different puppies the age at which they were able to respond to a vaccine and develop protection covered a wide period of time. At six weeks of age, 25% of the puppies could be immunized. At 9 weeks of age, 40% of the puppies were able to respond to the vaccine. The number increased to 60% by 16 weeks, and by 18 weeks of age, 95% of the puppies could be immunized. Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs This is the vaccination protocol that has been adopted by most vet schools. 9-10 weeks is the recommended age to start vaccinations. Would u like me to take pics of his teeth and post it in here?? I really don't think this lady would lie to me. It's my friends sister...It's not someone random or anything. |
Linus cried every couple of hours the first couple of nights that I had him in his expen, but then I moved him to a carpeted room, covered the floor with a plastic tablecloth and adjusted the expen so it's only big enough for his bed, his water dish, and a pee pad. The first night I slept in the room with him, with the TV on. The second night, I slept in the room with him (with the TV on) for about an hour, then moved to my bedroom. Now, he sleeps just fine in there by himself (with the TV on). It was really the carpeted room that made the biggest difference. The other big difference was my belief in tough love. He might cry and whine, but eventually he'll calm down and fall asleep. If he really doesn't stop, don't go in and pick him up, that's only reinforcing the bad behavior. Instead, sit several feet away and talk to him with a really calm voice until he calms down a little bit and realizes that he's not in any danger, you're just in the next room. Bully sticks are also really helpful! |

I personally love them sleeping with me. I would not have it any other way. I would just cry if they were not able to be in the bed with me. How old is he now???? Jessie |
You have been given a lot of good advise here. Please take it all in and use what works for you. Good luck with your new little furbaby. |

My guess he got neopar at 4 weeks and then a combo shot at 6 weeks before he was illegally flown. My Pennie got her first puppy shot at 7 weeks and she couldn't have another one until she was 14 weeks because she had been so sick. My vet said as long as they have at least 2 vaccines by 14 weeks they will be fine. So we never got the third, Normally I recommend 3 vaccinations by 14 weeks and that is what I give my own as well.. Then I give a booster at a year and no more for 2 years. They say 3 years is fine, but I don't trust that 100% yet so I compromise and do it every 2.;) |

But personally, I cannot tell a thing about your pup by his picture. I can barely see him because it is such a tiny picture. I would really love to see more pictures of your pup.. Start an album:) |
