1lb 1.8 oz at 5 weeks What do you think he will be at full grown?? I look at the chart and it says 5.5 pounds!! I dont want a yorkie that big. Do you think that chart is correct??? |
5.5lbs is not big at all! That would be well in the standard weight of what a Yorkie should be! I sure hope you choose to love your baby no matter how big he/she gets. |

How "big" do you want your yorkie to be? |
The weight chart is not always right on it really depends on the lines from which your dog comes from, and 5 weeks is a little young to be guestimating. If you are that worried about size I would look at a dog that is an older puppy, but even then there is no way to guarantee the adult weight. I also second that 5.5lbs is by no means big, it is actually a really great size still very small and portable but you don't have to worry about them every second. |
I will gladly take him/her off your hands! OMG!! |
I just took a look back at the OP's other threads, and posts... Paraphrased... not quoted... "Fell in love with a friends 2 pound yorkie...'" "P-pad training 6 week old" "Getting 6 week old, because mother died..." And now 5.5 pounds is going to be too big! NatNatt, 5.5 pounds is a small dog. And much less fragile than a 2 pound dog. You were asking about value, and prices, on previous posts. Retorical question... "Can you afford, the possible / probably vet care of a tinier yorkie? And Are you going to STOP loving this 6 week old, when it hits 2 pounds?" |
5.5 is not at all "big". There is no weight guarantee, only educated estimates. Have you fully educated yourself on the breed standard? If not, I would respectfully suggest reading more about the Yorkshire Terrier and be sure a yorkie is the best fit both for your benefit and the puppy's benefit. |
Yorkie Junkie, stop trying to cause problems with me. This was ONLY a question. Please answer my question and stay on topic. I just wanted to know if the charts are correct or not or if you can even determine the adult weight at that age. |
What happened with the 6 week old puppy that you were going to get flown to you last month? The one where the mother died? |

No the charts aren't accurate and an 5.5 pound adult is still a very small dog. Do you consider a bag of sugar big??? |
At 5 weeks old, my Sebastian was 1 pound, 3 ounces. He is now 7 1/2 months and weighs 3 pounds, 8 ounces. He still has a little growing to do and should make it to 4 pounds, I hope. Personally, I prefer them bigger and less fragile. |
Just an FYI, My Yorkie (according to her charts) was around that weight at 5 weeks, she is now 6 lbs at 22 weeks. She is by no means a big dog, actually very small IMO My Chi/Yorkie mix is 4 lbs at 14 weeks and TINY. Neither of them have followed any weight chart and their parents were all small. Are you planning to get rid of a dog if they go over your idea of perfection? I have seen so many posts how people picked the smallest hoping it woulod stay tiny and it outgrew its sibblings. I think if you want a tiny you should find one that is done growing, not a puppy. |

and I have 2 that have grown after that! I think my boy has just stabilized and he's going to be 3 yrs old in April. My girl who I thought had stopped growing for a year just went up in chest size - not weight - and she's 4 yrs old. Sorry, there are no guarantees in life. |
If you wanted a 2lb dog as you posted here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ml#post2929279 Then maybe you should surrender this puppy to a rescue and look for a full grown yorkie. Getting one full grown is about the only way to make certain you're getting the size you want. Although if you find one the size you want you'll be almost guaranteed medical problems that aren't inexpensive to deal with. |
LOL, 5.5lbs is not big. |

I think this is the same dog.. She thinks this dog is going to be 6 weeks when she gets it but unless her and the breeder agree to forge false documents, there is no way the vet will give a health certificate on a pup and lie about it's age and no way the airline is going to ship a 6 wk old puppy who has probably never had any shots.. I cannot stand when people are so interested in getting attention by having a tiny yorkie that they put the health and welfare of the dog at risk...IMO you should not even consider getting a puppy while you are living alone working so many hours..It is not fair to this poor little guy..:( |
My lil Shay is only 2.5 (hopefully a lil more when we go to vets thurs)..he just turned 1, last week..... If I could give you advice, I would say PRAY he will weigh 5 pounds, ppl just dont understand the worry, when they are soo small....and a lil anything, is a BIG thing.... Sure they are simply adorable.....but 5 pounds is SMALL too....go see some dogs so you see what 5 pounds looks like exactlly... And....trust me he could turn out to be 12 pounds or whatever..who cares???? they are all, the most adorable furbabies, you will ever see and they take over your heart and melt it...this has been the most wonderful experience I could ever imagine....... Sorry so long...I could keep going on my babies..lol |
holy crap.. dont want a dog that's 5 POUNDS.. really??? DO you realize how small 5 pounds really is?? I have 4 pound toy poodle that is 3 and I worry about her every SINGLE day.. has she eaten enough? she is running around again playing will she run into something and kill her self? Im constantly telling my kids, even though they are already very careful, watch out for Lexee, she is curled up on the couch in a little ball dont sit on her or quite horsing around before you step/fall on Lexee and the list goes on and on...I bought her under the impression she would reach 6 pounds, I DIDNT want a dog that small!! Tucker (my yorkie mix) came from 4 pound parents, was pegged out by the charts to be 7 pounds and he is 9 pounds, THE perfect size. So NO the charts are always correct. Arent you the one that posted about a 6 week old pup that you wanted to leave home for hours and hours at a time and was worry about how well the pup would train?? Now your worried that it will get bigger than 5 pounds?? My heart goes out to the pup..:(.. |
Size of yorkie Why does size matter? are you going to love them any less? My yorkie was 2i/i lbs.was not suppose to be any bigger than 6 to 7 lbs.She is 91/2 lbs,do you think I am going to give her up because of size?no WAY,she is beautiful, healthy, clear eyes that never run and she is beautiful, she is 21/2 and has only been to the vet for yearly checkup and shots.I love her so much and everyone that sees her makes beautiful comments,Before her,I had a 5lb. yorkie and she was healthly too,but I dnt see what the big del is on size. What do you want to do if they dont get to the size you want, give them up,how sad, thats not love. |
Are you serious!? Disgusted.... :shocked7q |
Charts are just estimates. The only way to know for SURE what the adult weight will be is to buy an adult. |
That just breaks my heart that you said you didn't want him if he was going to be 5.5 lbs. My dog was supposed to be 4.5 lbs bc parents were around that size. She has outgrown her parents and I don't care she is healthy and beautiful and I love her just the same. I don't worry about her having health issues. You can't not want a dog bc it grows too big. That just breaks my heart. You should love your dog for it being unique and having a special personality. Did your parents stop loving you if you gained weight? When you buy a dog it is a lifetime commitment. Think about all the things he does that you love about him and ask yourself if you could really live without him. If you say yes than I think you should re-home him and NOT get another dog. There is NO Guarantee about what weight your dog should be. Being curious about trying to estimate is one thing, but not wanting him bc he outgrew your expectations is just wrong. That is how I feel.:( |
Then give him up RIGHT NOW |
