We are all here because we love this breed, and way too often we come across people that want to use these little dogs as an accessory, or a money maker, or worse. I have to say that a 2lb dog can be a very expensive accessory to keep alive and healthy. I would start guessing your dogs size at about 12 weeks, it is definitely too young to make even an educated guess now. It may be 5.5 lbs or may be smaller or may be much larger, with yorkies you just never know for sure, I have one that stopped growing early and one that didn't stop till he was 15 months:)

and I have 2 that have grown after that! I think my boy has just stabilized and he's going to be 3 yrs old in April. My girl who I thought had stopped growing for a year just went up in chest size - not weight - and she's 4 yrs old. :rolleyes: Sorry, there are no guarantees in life.

Then maybe you should surrender this puppy to a rescue and look for a full grown yorkie. Getting one full grown is about the only way to make certain you're getting the size you want. Although if you find one the size you want you'll be almost guaranteed medical problems that aren't inexpensive to deal with.

Re-read, this post does not say that you have / own, this pup. My bad! The charts are not accurate, however, in all likelihood, this pup WILL exceed 2 pounds.

I am not trying to cause problems! I am sorry that you think I am. As other posters have said, here, we love the breed, and want what is best for them. If you are looking for a tiny dog, I for one, hope you are prepared.

I think this is the same dog.. She thinks this dog is going to be 6 weeks when she gets it but unless her and the breeder agree to forge false documents, there is no way the vet will give a health certificate on a pup and lie about it's age and no way the airline is going to ship a 6 wk old puppy who has probably never had any shots.. I cannot stand when people are so interested in getting attention by having a tiny yorkie that they put the health and welfare of the dog at risk...IMO you should not even consider getting a puppy while you are living alone working so many hours..It is not fair to this poor little guy..:(

My lil Shay is only 2.5 (hopefully a lil more when we go to vets thurs)..he just turned 1, last week.....

If I could give you advice, I would say PRAY he will weigh 5 pounds, ppl just dont understand the worry, when they are soo small....and a lil anything, is a BIG thing....

Sure they are simply adorable.....but 5 pounds is SMALL too....go see some dogs so you see what 5 pounds looks like exactlly...

And....trust me he could turn out to be 12 pounds or whatever..who cares???? they are all, the most adorable furbabies, you will ever see and they take over your heart and melt it...this has been the most wonderful experience I could ever imagine.......

Sorry so long...I could keep going on my babies..lol

holy crap.. dont want a dog that's 5 POUNDS.. really??? DO you realize how small 5 pounds really is?? I have 4 pound toy poodle that is 3 and I worry about her every SINGLE day.. has she eaten enough? she is running around again playing will she run into something and kill her self? Im constantly telling my kids, even though they are already very careful, watch out for Lexee, she is curled up on the couch in a little ball dont sit on her or quite horsing around before you step/fall on Lexee and the list goes on and on...I bought her under the impression she would reach 6 pounds, I DIDNT want a dog that small!! Tucker (my yorkie mix) came from 4 pound parents, was pegged out by the charts to be 7 pounds and he is 9 pounds, THE perfect size. So NO the charts are always correct.
Arent you the one that posted about a 6 week old pup that you wanted to leave home for hours and hours at a time and was worry about how well the pup would train?? Now your worried that it will get bigger than 5 pounds??
My heart goes out to the pup..:(..

Why does size matter? are you going to love them any less? My yorkie was 2i/i lbs.was not suppose to be any bigger than 6 to 7 lbs.She is 91/2 lbs,do you think I am going to give her up because of size?no WAY,she is beautiful,healthy,clear eyes that never run and she is beautiful,she is 21/2 and has only been to the vet for yearly checkup and shots.I love her so much and everyone that sees her makes beautiful comments,Before her,I had a 5lb. yorkie and she was healthly too,but I dnt see what the big del is on size.What do you want to do if they dont get to the size you want,give them up,how sad,thats not love.

Charts are just estimates. The only way to know for SURE what the adult weight will be is to buy an adult.

That just breaks my heart that you said you didn't want him if he was going to be 5.5 lbs. My dog was supposed to be 4.5 lbs bc parents were around that size. She has outgrown her parents and I don't care she is healthy and beautiful and I love her just the same. I don't worry about her having health issues.
You can't not want a dog bc it grows too big. That just breaks my heart. You should love your dog for it being unique and having a special personality. Did your parents stop loving you if you gained weight?
When you buy a dog it is a lifetime commitment. Think about all the things he does that you love about him and ask yourself if you could really live without him. If you say yes than I think you should re-home him and NOT get another dog.
There is NO Guarantee about what weight your dog should be. Being curious about trying to estimate is one thing, but not wanting him bc he outgrew your expectations is just wrong. That is how I feel.:(

Pann is five and a half pounds and I think he\'s super tiny! I would not want him or any dog any smaller that would be scary!!
