I love the pic you have on your home page, so sweet!
Ok, they are a little bigger than Wrigley & Camden, but smaller than Crosley.
NV suggests 3/8 for our smaller two, but we do 2/8 since we add in green beans & the snacks. Crosley is actually getting an 1/8 smaller than suggested as well.

Colitis, poor thing! Colon problems are such a pain, it runs in the humans in my family!

1. What is High Pressure Pasteurization?
High Pressure Pasteurization is a unique process that kills pathogenic bacteria through high‐pressure,
water‐based technology. High Pressure Pasteurization is a USDA‐approved, 100% natural process, and is
allowed for use on organic and natural products.
2. How does High Pressure Pasteurization work?
Essentially, this technology “puts the squeeze” on food pathogens without cooking out vital nutrients or
changing the fresh characteristics of food. During High Pressure Pasteurization, pressure is uniformly
applied around and throughout the food product.
High Pressure Pasteurization can be conducted at refrigerated temperatures, which means the
temperature starts low and stays low – High Pressure Pasteurization does not cause the heat degradation
that happens during cooking. Because of this, High Pressure Pasteurization is known for being especially
beneficial for heat‐sensitive products, like meats, fruits, and vegetables.
3. Why is Nature’s Variety now using High Pressure Pasteurization?
As always, we’re committed to continual product improvements, and we believe the use of High Pressure
Pasteurization is an important step to further enhance our strict quality and food safety standards.
At Nature’s Variety, our purpose is empowering people to transform the lives of pets. We take pride in
the quality of our foods “from farm to bowl” so that our ingredients, formulas, manufacturing protocols,
and finished products are nothing short of superior – because that’s what our pets deserve. Using High
Pressure Pasteurization is just one more step to ensure we’re living to fulfill our purpose.
4. Is High Pressure Pasteurization appropriate for natural and organic foods?
Yes. High Pressure Pasteurization is recognized by the FDA and USDA as an anti‐pathogen treatment in
many products. In addition, the USDA’ National Organic Products regulations provide for the use of High
Pressure Pasteurization on organically labeled products.
Because High Pressure Pasteurization is the only scientifically recognized pasteurization process that
does not use heat or irradiation to kill harmful bacteria, it is a safe treatment option that has little to no
nutritional degradation of the products.
5. How did the High Pressure Pasteurization technology originate?
The origin of the High Pressure Pasteurization concept is as natural as the process itself. Over a century
ago, scientists began investigating the fact that harmful bacteria found at sea level were actually not able
to survive at deep sea levels (under high water pressures).
Within the last decade or so, advancements in technology have allowed for the duplication of this
interesting phenomenon for use on natural and organic foods to kill harmful bacteria while preserving
taste, enzymes, and overall nutritional integrity.
6. Which Nature’s Variety foods use High Pressure Pasteurization?
As of 2/11/10, all Nature’s Variety Raw Frozen Diets and Freeze Dried Raw foods utilize High Pressure
Pasteurization.
Thank you, great informative post!

Ugggggg!! I don't know what to do!! I am worried to keep feeding Bonnie the NV raw. BUT OMG she loves it so much. She just cries when I am fixing it for her. Bless her heart, this morning I didn't have the Bison thawed out, so I just gave her kibble. She kept looking at me like "SO where is the good stuff, mom?" I felt terrible.
What do I feed now? Do I trust that they are putting the new pasteurization process in place and that the food will be safe now and in the future.
She used to be itchy and scratching, and she has been doing so well on NV. No scratching. Her raw patch, where she had chewed the hair off her arm has completely healed. WHAT TO DO!?

Sorry, glad to hear you babies did not suffer any illness from eating the NV

i'm scared of this, but i really don't want to switch Sadie off NV. i stopped buying Chicken variety altogether because A. the recalls are always on chicken, and B. i think she might have a chicken allergy not sure yet.

anyways she loves the meat variety and has grown well and finally maintained a good weight on it. i don't want to have to switch but i'm getting worried now NV please fix this, hopefully pasterization will get rid of their issues and keep the natural raw still there like it says.

I find the NV CEO's letter a little...odd? "An abundance of caution..." <-- what is that even supposed to mean? In the PR/marketing world, weird strings of words like that is usually intended to deflect/distract.

When I got that e-mail I thought they were being genuinely cautious.... but that's me being gullible. It's scary when one of the high quality and non-grocery store and non-PetSmart brands of food has a recall

I hope your babies are ok!

HUGS TO APPLEKINZ and BUZZYBOY!!!!
Hi Viv...the kids are o.k., and YES, I'm all in all done w/NV, even 'though they have switched to pasteurization of all their chicken products...Interestingly enough, Apple and Buzz had, actually, had about 4 bags of that particular organic chicken w/the same expiration date...The boutique I buy from had to order a case of it (12 bags), as I'm one of only a few that WAS using it...I guess the bags were o.k., or my kiddos are just really healthy...We are (and I promise this time lol) sticking to Bravo and Primal...My local vendor (another boutique) only carries duck and lamb, in Primal, and I wanted them to have chicken, thus, I got the organic NV chicken...Bravo didn't use to make a complete and balanced raw (you had to add supplements, and I didn't want to do that), but now they do! I'm going to try get my fav boutique to start ordering Primal...She carries Bravo Complete Balance and Stella & Chewies, so I'll stick to that, for now, and when the rotation for duck & lamb come around, I'll get Primal...She's very good, and even called me, at home, to tell me about the recall, before I even got the email from NV...I do think there were, probably, only traces of salmonella in the NV chicken, but there's no room for traces of an error w/our sweeties....right? Have a great day, and yorkie kisses to your boy, Snick!!!

We use the dry & wet and there isn't a recall on those products, just the raw.
I don't have any plans to switch at this time.

I'm so happy that your Apple and Buzz are okay! Sorry that you had to sit on pins and needles the last 24 hours worrying about your babies.

Phew, I'm glad that Apple and Buzz are OK.

Sure glad I listened to my vet when she insisted I quit fitting Missy the NV Organic Chicken. I would be FREAKING OUT if I were still feeding it and there was this recall.

Hopefully everyones little furbabies are OK, and noone got a bad batch.
