A person cringed when they saw Bailey today! Okay, this freaked me out, I had a bag for sale and this one lady was dropping by to have a look at it. I was at my boyfriends and since I knew she was coming, and his two dogs are barkers, I kept them in a room with the door closed, but I had Bailey up in my arms when I answered the door, everybody that I've ever met has always been delighted to see him and shows him lots of love and attention and he just basks in it! Well I opened the door and when the lady saw Bailey she took a step back, kind of put her arms up to her chest and just cringed, and the look of disgust on her face blew me away:rolleyes: I told her that he is very friendly and does not bite, she answered " I really don't like them, I can't stand dogs!" I've never encountered this before, holy cow, how can you not like my precious little Bailey:p I've met people who preferred cats over dogs, etc, but never anyone who totally detested them! I never want to meet another person like her again, she left the worse taste in my mouth. K..glad I got that out, it really ticked me off!! :D |
LOL I feel your pain! Check out my old thread here  http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...i-give-up.html |
There is an old saying... Don't trust anybody who doesnt like dogs... and I believe that. Especially Yorkies. I am not sure how anybody could ever blame a certain animal for a bad experience, I know I dont. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. If they dont like dogs, they cant be trusted. I would have said "Well, we have something in common, I dont really like people, in fact, I dont really like you." :D |

Haha! Yes! I remember that thread:D I guess there are people like that lady everywhere, how unfortunate for them, they are missing out on a great thing;) |
There are all kinds of people out there, but that is strange to not even like little dogs:rolleyes: |

Hey Darlene, I'll tell you like I told Capt Noonie in an earlier similar thread... you should get Bailey a playmate, a doberman, then invite her back lol! What is with people?? THEY'RE YORKIES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! |
Well, I had a similiar experience at a store but I guess it didn't bother me but I did giggle. My mom cannot have a dog (or any animal) near her. When she was younger walking to school she got bitten by a dog with rabies. Not only did that tramautize her but the shot (a bunch around her umbilical)were awful. She loves them in pictures but one near her will send her running. Funny and sad |
I have a friend who is terrified of dogs...mine were at a party that she was at also (another friend's daughter's birthday), and mine were sitting doing nothing. she told me "i guess yours aren't bad...", but when my SUPER shy Tank decided to smell her baby's toes, she was like "oh no! don't touch the baby!!!!" Holy crap...it's the toes, and he didn't lick them, just gave them a little sniff..my poor baby was scared by her, and I'm sure it made us go another step back in our work to get him to trust people. GRRR! I haven't ever heard of anyone cringing at the sight of a Yorkie though, just doesn't make sense, does it? |

I had simular experences ( minus the shots thank God) being bitten and chased by dogs most of my childhood has me reaching for my pepperspray and taser if I even see a big dog comming my direction...but I must say I'm OK with yorkie's and little ones :D ( althought that did take a while) |
I've seen this a lot. Some people don't like snakes. Some people don't like spiders. Some people don't like cats. Some people don't like dogs. It is what it is. |

The only thing that freaks me out is spiders, any kind of creepy crawly really, but cute cuddly beautiful little furbutts, I can't imagine ever disliking them! :) |

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. However, I always feel like such a hypocrite in these situations. I used to recoil from people's dogs too. I don't know if I was afraid or disgusted or what, but I never even wanted to sit down in houses that had dogs. It was on a complete whim that I ended up with Roxie from a family member, and I didn't think it would be permanent. But now she is my baby, and I love her to bits. However, the tables have been turned on me. I have to deal with my dad, who won't visit as often and won't eat at my house because I have a dog. I have to deal with my two nephews who won't come into my house unless the dog is gated in the kitchen or somehow contained. It's a crummy feeling, and I feel so bad for making other people feel this way over the years. :( Sorry for rambling... |
I understand people having fears of small furry creatures ..I am deathly afraid of mice. I love my dogs but don't expect everyone on the earth to like them. I also have two cats and don't expect everyone to like them either. But they are my furbabies and everyone knows that. If they don't want to come here because I have pets..thats fine by me. I used to have a sign up that said "the more I know people the more I love my pets". LOL |
She may have had a very traumatic experience, regarding dogs, as a child, or even as a baby, and doesn't even remember it...You never know what goes on in a person's psyche...Sad to say, she's missing out on one of life's greatest pleasure, the unconditional love of a pet...And the poor thing, the opportunity to interact w/Bailey missed!!!What a shame....:( |

I know that people have fears, and no, we really don't know what caused those fears. I think what upset me the most was this ladies tone and what she said "I can't stand dogs! " she didn't have to be rude, There was a more polite way of expressing her feelings. I can't imagine going in to someones home and saying that to them. |
Was the woman @ the doors name Denise? Denise is a border line friend of mine that always saying she can't stand my Bryan because he's spoiled and thinks he's human..she's only been around him maybe 4 times, but you know what he can't stand her either Lol!!! And he's a lot cuter...hahaha ahhh hahah!! |
This person must have been a very sad soul. I cant understand the heart of a person like this. They are missing out on pure honest love. You never question your dogs love! I cant say that about most people! |

Oh well if she comes back...call her a bugger eating moron...haha:D |
 Some people are too funny. And personally, I am not crazy about people that don't like dog... Changing the context, If all women that had bad experience with one man would start hating them all, we all would be single!!! :D ;) |

Don't let that kind of thing get to you - there's plenty of people in the world with issues pertaining to animals - to each his own....but some have very good reasons they don't like animals... I had an experience with a neighbor - A little lost/stray dog was in my courtyard and no one could corral her - you could tell she wanted human contact but was terrified.... Well - I went out there with treats & food and tried to get her close to me by dropping them closer and closer to her ...I was making good progress...she was about 2 feet from me ...when a neighbor started pounding on her window - of course the poor dog took off but it got worse... She threw open her door yelling at me to stop feeding her.... (I was kind of shocked) so I yelled back (which I never do with anyone) "She's HUNGRY - What the bleep is your problem !!!" I never have problems with neighbors and don't want them - so stayed to talk & explain why I was trying to catch the little dog ....she ended up telling me she had been bitten as a kid and was deathly afraid of them..... she was very nice considering our first contact was her wanting to kick my butt (she'd have done it too - I didn't stand a chance - she was twice my size) :p Edited to add - even when I walk my 2 - I keep them very close when near people and always give them the right of way - You never know who is scared of dogs and who isn't even when they're only the size of a mans shoe |
I understand people not being "dog people" but I can't imagine hating such a creature. I'm not a cat person but I'm still the first to pet one if he comes up to me and say how cute they are. I just wouldn't own one. My dad has 2 and I always make time to go up and say hi to them. But anyways, that woman was RUDE! Totally unnecessary to act as such. I guess I just can't wrap my mind around despising an innocent mammal SO much. Personally, I find that people who have compassion and love for animals in general are better people! I've grown up my whole life around dogs and trusting them etc so I guess it's the way you were raised as well. My aunt had a Rottweiler that my mom was deathly afraid of (my mom locked herself in a room once because she thought he was gonna attack her). Of course the dog could smell her fear. Me, being my 10 year old confident self, would just walk right up to the dog with no fear and he LOVED me (he was never aggressive w/ anyone though). I think if you have a fear of dogs or don't wanna be around them, just ignore a dog. I would never put Jackson away locked in a room simply because the person was afraid of him. If you're coming into my house, you have to understand he's family! |
i take gatsby to school with me all the time and thear is a girl i know well because we have the same major, and are in a lot of the same classes.i knew that she was afraid so i always tried to keep them apart but one day last week i come into the campuse center and she was thear gatsby was in his stroller meshed in and she gets up and walks about 2 feet away and askes if he can get out and bite her i told her not only could he not get out but he would not bite her if he could i was thear about a hour when i looked over and the girl was sitting next to the stroller petting gatsby threw thne mesh i asked her if she wanted me to take him out and she said "no way!!" so i let it go but i was happy she had stopped being afraid of him in so little a time |
