My next door neighbor is afraid of dogs . Mostly the ones who jump up . Suzi loves to jump , even as small as she is , my neighbor does not like this very much. However, she has taken to my SHih Tzu , but she is so mellow.
I do not like BIG DOGS. now they scare the hell out of me.
I am ok with large dogs from a distance only... That is just me though. I think their is a big difference in the toy breeds and others .

This lady has probably gotten in trouble before. She probably really already has a very possessive, jealous Yorkie at home, and if she comes home smelling of another, well then, there is heck to pay...... so she makes up an excuse :D:D

I was interested to read all the replies to this post, having met a "Yorkie hater" several years ago and it still freaks me out. In all the years of having a Yorkie (or two), and never having a problem, there was one day I was walking Pippin and he wondered into a neighbors yard. These were town homes so that is not difficult. Anyway, I was pulling back on his leash when this idiot starts yelling for me to get that dog off of his property or he was going to kick him. What an ass! He could see I was trying my best to real him in, and I tried to explain that he was not peeing on his lawn (he was out of pee long ago and loved to "mark" his territory even when empty;). But this creep was then threatening me, with the "I know where you live" boast. I just kept thinking of the Toto and the wicked witch of the west... "I'll get you and your little dog too"! :D

From then on, we actively avoided the "Yorkie Hater." I was chased and nipped by my aunt's Scottish Terrier when I was really young, and little dogs sure don't frighten me. You just have to keep in mind that some people DO have mental problems, and you should not take their strange behavior personally... Just avoid contact with them, its less stressful.

The only dog I was ever bitten by was a very small dog when I was very little it scared me alot but I still love dogs im a bit more careful now when I see any dog and I always ask permission before touching any dog one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is people who will run up and pet and speak to a service dog grrrrrrrrrrr im sorry but this REALLY gets on my nerves you do NOT interupt a service dog at work unless you ask the owners permission first....way of topic lol yes I was bitten by a small dog but I could NEVER hate them

If she's had a bad experience in the past it maybe that. I'm not making excuses for her, and surely she'd be better getting to know some friendly dogs to get over her fear.

Poor woman, she doesn't know what she's missing.

Oh boy an i DENSE!:rolleyes: I thought you were selling dog clothes and someone came to your house and cringed as a reaction to Bailey not being cute enough:eek: My only thought was slam the door in her face with possibly a reference to a female dog. At the very end of your story was when the :bulb: finally came on in my head that they were YOUR clothes and this woman was just a jerk which of course put an entire different spin on this situation. So NOW that I figured out that she was not being judgmental against just your Bailey but the entire canine population my outrage level has dropped to screw her. :D

I could understand being scared of dogs, you know, maybe you had a bad experience with a dog bite as a child or something, but total disgust, that's just wrong.

wouldn't it have been funny if she came to your house to buy a dog bag, and she was scared that she saw a dog! LOL!

My own mother and two sisters do NOT like dogs they are cat people. They ask me where did you get your love for dogs? (being I have 6) I always say I dunno I just always have. I rarley have my family over because I have to put all my dogs up or they freak out. They dont want my dogs anywhere near them and they ask me why I never invite them over anymore. These furry little munchkins are MY children. You dont like them stay out of my home. I wouldnt hide my daughter away in the back room when family came over why should I do that to my furry children? Some people are just so shallow.

Haha, It wasn't a dog handbag, just a reg one, She asked if I would lower the price, I said no, she left and I immediately went to the ad where the bag was placed and reduced the price :p it was sold to the next person shortly after! I was just so happy when she left! :)

Many people are terrified of dogs. It doesn't make them bad people. And more often then not they will say they don't like dogs because they are embarrassed to admit to their fear.

We have a sign that says that if you don't like dogs then don't bother knocking;)

I've a friend who was very afraid of dogs. We went to a lake one summer and she refused to get out of the car because there were 2 dogs next to our car. She managed to overcome her fear... now she's staying with the boyfriend who has a BIG dog.

Thank goodness you didnt give her the discounted price. I dont care if someone doesnt like dogs that is just rude. What does she think a tiny little Yorkie is gonna kill her? When your in someone elses home be polite, dont point out what you dont like. I dont like snakes or any kind of reptile either BUT I wouldnt go in someone else home that had them and cringe in front of them thats just rude.

I had Harley sitting on my lap when I went through a fast food drive thru one time and when the lady at the window saw him she started backing up. She had to go get another employee to actually come take my money. She wouldn't step near the window. I think its strange that people can be that scared of a small dog.

I was invited to a very "well to-do" friend's house and everything is so fancy and slick. She asked me to bring my baby, Priscilla......because she hadn't seen her yet and she loves dogs. I had to use the restroom so I took Prissy with me. When I opened the door to go back into the hallway....I was startled to meet a woman who was a stranger to me. She has a look on her face like someone had goosed her from behind. Her eyes were bugged out on a stem. I said "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know anyone would be here that is afraid of dogs". I hurried around the corner to tell the hostess I was leaving and what had happened. She said, "Oh don't worry, that's my Mother and she just got a fresh face lift and always looks like that".

My aunt is a in-home nurse and was taking care of an elderly woman with a 10 pound dog. When she was leaving the dog attacked her, and cut her ankle so bad he punctured her achilles tendon. Even after going through that she still loves my dogs, but is still careful. I see it as me not liking cats, there's no reason for it (maybe because I'm very allergic?:confused:) but I just don't really like them. I still don't understand how anyone can not love our yorkies though, but we are biased here:D

Some people do have a very real fear of dogs, of all sizes. My daughter is quite afraid of dogs that she does not "know", and even some that she does...mostly bigger dogs, but small ones too if she's caught off guard.
It's not something I see as a laughing matter...you never know what the other person has been through that has resulted in their adversion to one thing or another. :(
