| Roxy could use some good thoughts A long story made short...we decided to feed a commercial raw diet.(all organic and chemical and grain free) Fed turkey to both Roxy and Mystique on Wed. On Thursday both got sick. Mystique (she is back to herself today).... was not as bad as Roxy and was actually feeling not too bad last night after I treated her with a few things to stop the diareah and help with the nausea. Roxy was a bit loose then started passing blood in her stool. Call into vet..tried a few suggestions. By nine we had her into the emergency vet, passing lots of blood and vomiting it too. Vet said she figures it is salmonella poisoning. She was not dehydrated yet thank heavens and she got treated promptly with antibiotics, a med to coat her intestines and a medication for nausea and vomiting. Today she seems better but is very lethargic still and weak. She is drinking and eating (baby rice pablum and baby food plain chicken meat) She ate 2 big tsps of it and kept it all down. She has been out and did a couple pees now. I have contacted the holistic pet store where we got the product and am waiting to hear what the company has to say. Have to say that I was not overly impressed with the stores attitude..they were covering thier butts first and showed little to concern about how she is doing. Roxy could use some good thoughts. | That's scary. Poor Roxy. Thank heavens she's going to be ok. I know lot's of member's feed raw with no problem and that's great but you just never know. Even if it's one out of 1,000 to get sick to me it's not worth it. My vet said no to raw for this reason and that was enough for me. Sending good wishes Roxy's way for a speedy recovery. |

| oh no!!! sounds like the store is going to have some explaining to do!!! shouldn't they be responsible for the vet bills that their product caused you to have? I'm no lawyer, but I'm just saying....thoughts going to little roxy!!!!

| Thanks for the all the good thoughts. Roxy seems abit better and ate some more pablum and chicken and had no problems so looks like we are over the hump I hope. Haven't heard anything from the company (this is the same company that I complained to about the big bone pieces in the meat and they changed thier grind for smaller dogs) My big concern is other dogs may get sick too. Yesterday the store already refunded all the money I paid for all the product I bought from them(she put it all back on my Mastercard over the phone) I am fortunate to have a good vet here who only charged me $114 plus a bit of change for the after hours emergency visit and all the meds. so that isn't really a concern for us..but I just hope no one elses dog gets ill from a product if there is a bug in it that is could make them sick. Thanks again from Roxy and me ♥ |
