tell me No I had a woman offer me her 3 year old 3 pound yorkie girl for 50 bucks she is having hip surgery and cant care for her. it was her late husbands dog and she said the dog never really took to her. she come out of her house when she seen me walking Gatsby (a friend told her to watch for us) well the funny thing was the boyfriend and i wear talking about another yorkie because he just got a 4 dollar raise now i need convinced i shouldent bring this teeny tiny dog into my home Gatsby is 6 pounds and while he is gental i worry about him humping her(she is fixed, Gatsby is not) i also worry about her playing with the other dogs and getting hurt not to mention i know nothing about her she is sweet i did get to meet her so every one tell me all the things against getting a small dog PLEASE |
Sorry, I can't think of a thing to discourage you ;). However, I would have her vet checked and have your yorkie meet her in neutral territory before you commit. Good luck with your decision :). |
Sounds as if your mind is already made up. Do what feels right for you situation, not what others think. Best of luck, and whatever you decide will be the right choice. |
Hi, Honestly, I don't have my dog yet. 3 more weeks. But... I have done a lot of research, months of it, before deciding to get a yorkie. This was what I concluded: The small ones are cute, but they are extremely delicate. They often have more health problems because of their small size, which means more vet bills. When I talked to the breeder I was getting my dog from, I made sure she knew that I wanted the dog to be in the weight range standards which is 4-7 lbs. I am hoping for around 6 lb. like your dog. It sounds perfect to me. I wouldn't take the tiny one for the reasons I mentioned, and also because you don't know all the training and history. I admire people who like to take in dogs or rescue dogs, but you don't know what habits you are getting. My preference was to train from puppy on up. I'd pass on the 3 pounder, but that is me. Best wishes to you on your decision. |
It doesn't sound as though you're comfortable taking such a little one. If you decide not to take her, please discuss with her current owner the option of turning her over to a good rescue. A good rescue will thoroughly screen potential new homes and verify veterinary references. For little ones like this one especially, it's important that she not go just anywhere. Please let us know what happens. |
I'm sorry, I don't know how to paste a previous message into mine. The advice about turning the dog over to a rescue is great advice. Wish I'd thought of it! |

Many here have lage Dominent Dogs that get along just fine with Yorkies. Why our Yorkie lets our 125 Cane Corso to sleep in her house! You just have to take it slow at first.....Our Yorkie has not harmed the large dog at all. |

Take the dog to your home to see how your dogs react to her. there really is no reason why you can't take her if your dogs get along with her. Many people have big dogs and little dogs. your 45 pound dog could hurt your 6 pounder just asd easily as he could hurt the 3 pounder. The thing with dogs, unless they are dog aggressive, they will not injur another dog. So if you really want the dog, take her to your house and see how it goes. Also I would get your male neutered. It's the responsible thing to do. |

Mine prefers a meal and not a snack, so they get along great! |

If you decide against getting the dog, I have an friend that is looking for a yorkie but can't spend alot of money at the moment. I live in Michigan and would be willing to drive to Ohio to pick her up. (I have to drive to University of Toledo anyway!!) Please PM me. Of course, only if you decide against getting her. |

I think it would be wonderful for you to have her in your home. Of course this is how I ended up with 3 yorkies because I could not resist them. I love them all and they are 5lbs-15lbs and get along great. Good Luck in your decision. |

by the way Gatsby is not fixed because they do not believe he will wake up if put under anesthesia im currently looking into a small dog specialist to talk about a neuter (it really upsets me when people think im irresponible its childish i know but it dose ) |
I definitely think that you should give her a try. Bring her home and test the waters. I'll bet she surprises you and fits in perfectly. |

To the OP. It sounds like this little girl and her owner live in your neighborhood, which would make it easy for you to get to know her personality prior to making any kind of decision. Talk to her current owner and explain to her that you already have two dogs and would like to have a chance to get to know this little girl. Maybe ask her to walk her with you while you walk your own baby. That's how I bonded my old roomie's 8 yr old Pomeranian, and how the same pom bonded to his new 1.5 yr old little terrier/dachshund mix sis. Whether your new pup is going to be a baby or a more mature dog, it will be a transition period for all involved, even humans! :) Remember she sought you out. Be flattered that she thinks you take good care of your baby and wants the same for the yorkie in her care. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Just my two cents. Good luck! citygirl123 FYI: Copied and pasted from the YTCA website Quote:

When I rescued my little Tia, she was a mere 2 lbs. Because I was more worried about her well being, it never crossed my mind to worry that one of my 5 at home could hurt her. My others babies range from 6.5 to 15 lbs, but, they have never even snapped at Tia. I got her last Easter, she'll be 2 in a few days, and up to a whopping 3 lbs now and just as happy as she can be. All my babies love each other! :D I say give it a shot. If it doesn't work, she would make a perfect playmate for Tia!:p |

I hope it all works out and you can get her. |
I would take her and bring her home for a trial run and see how they all get along. It sounds like you want her and you would provide a good home for her. If it doesn't work out, speak with the woman, and convince her that a Reputable Yorkie Rescue would be the next best bet, so she doesn't keep getting passed around from home to home... ...my guess is that you will keep her though... best wishes p.s. I understand your fears about the neuter, but I like your approach in looking for a qualified small breed vet! |
If she is 3 already, you can at least get some background on her, vets records, etc. I have big dogs, and they are very sweet to the little ones, though they are never left alone, together. I like to be around when they are playing, to see nothing gets out of hand! I wish you luck, in your decision! I'd say "YES"!!! |
well i went this morning to talk to talk with the woman (who's name by the why is Leona) and the little girl(Sara) has not been to the vet since Leona's husband died which was a year ago so later this week im taking Sara to the vet and buying her a coat because Leona is sure she has one but just isn't sure where it is. after that we are all going to a indoor dog run to meet and see how it goes. |
