Welcome Welcome! I have a little girl who is 2.08lbs at 10 months. The vet has me leave her dry food out for her to graze all day long. This helps her maintain and gain weight. If you aren't already doing this I would try it. Just make sure that you read the thread on Food quality, I think it is under health and diet. This will let you know if you need to change to a better quality of food. I think the key to the little ones maintaining their weight and health is good quality food. |

There are teeny little ones, but the term "teacup" is just a marketing ploy for breeders to make more money. They come from the smallest, most fragile, and most often sickest yorkies out there. Hi, and welcome to YT. I can't wait to see pictures of your little one!!!! I am kinda new to, but after awhile you will learn alot of these guys have been on here for a while.. and have inside jokes, myself, like you had/have no idea of this and it can make you feel pretty bad and dumb....However, I don't think thats the intent, they just tend to forget, they to had to start somewhere to get educated on such a unique breed....there are alot of breeders and just plain Yorkie Lovers on here that will help by giving opinions and sharing their experience. As you watch the post, you will see the connection between the members. Yes, as in real life, a persons personality comes out even through post and text.....So again I would like to say welcome, come on back and play, you will enjoy it...BTW my Joey was under 5lbs until he was a year old, now my little stinker is 9lbs at 14 months. I did change his food to Royal Canin skin and stone vet formula because she felt he was a little underweight due to feeling his backbone. Welcome to YT! I just got my first yorkie and she's 3lbs exactly at 6 months old. My vet told me she probably wouldn't get much bigger than that, but that she could stand to gain an extra 1/2lb. Just keep an eye on your baby as each dog is different, even within the same breed. A pound to a yorkie can be the equivalent of 20-30 lbs on a human! Like others have said, just make sure you're feeding her a high quality puppy food (I use Blue Buffalo). I am feeding mine three times a day in order to try and put that 1/2lb on her! I know a lot of people also do boiled chicken with a little bit of rice as well! Good luck! |

I was no way laughing at the OP. I was laughing at myself because what happened just a few pages ago. It was a big deal a few days ago when I said that I didn't mind people using teacup. I guess I should have explained... Most knew.. I have no problem with people using the word teacup..it is just a word to me and people get so bent out of shape about it. Atleast the heat was on me again and not the OP for using it like I have seen people do in the past...I can take it and will still laugh about it. I didn't say a word just laughed and have seen alot of threads and replys alot worse then this. Your damned if you do your damned if you don't... I think people need to lighten up just a little. You go to one thread and everyone agree's and turn around and post the exact same thing and get flamed for it... I could be mad but choose to laugh about it. To the OP: I am truly sorry you thought I was laughing at you. That really wasn't the case. |

yeah, like...when someone asks me if mine are teacup, I let them know that there's technically no such thing, but it doesn't make me angry when they use that word...honestly, it's only a word, nothing to get too worked up over. Life is too short to get angry over stupid stuff I think. Also, I think I read this post at the wrong time...I've had a rough night at work, haha. I just needed an attitude adjustment :) |

I took my Pinci(2.5lb@1yr) to Petco the other day and there was a lady with her son(little chubby). She was like " Oh my, how cute!!! I love teacup yorkies!" I looked at her son and said "How cute!!! Is he teapot?":D I wasn't trying to be mean, but it kind of makes me upset when people only look at my smaller baby. They are all precious no matter how big or small they are...:p |

I get the "is she a teacup" question alot. I usually say, "some people refer to them as THAT, but really there's no such thing". Then they will ask what I mean, and that gives me the opportunity to educate them on the breed standards. I don't find it offensive when people refer to Missy and Dora as teacups. Prior to YT, I didn't know any better myself! I definitely agree that no matter how big or small, they are all precious. Any dog under 2o lbs is considered small in my books! |

Now that made me a little mad.:D Mine now range for 2 1/2 to 7 and every size inbetween. It is funny I get the teacup question as much on my 6 pound girl as I do on my 2 pound one..everyone assumes she is a puppy. I thought about naming my new girl teacup so when people asked I could honestly say Yes...:D |
