I have considered different breeds, I just don't know which one would be a good fit (size wise). I have a lot more research to do if I do choose a different breed. I'm with ya on the difficulties in getting good yorkies at a good price.. the more I look the more discouraged I have become!

Loyal rescue IS awesome.. Oliver's foster family was amazing.

I have, however, decided NOT to get a rescue this time. Dealing with Oliver's issues from his time in the puppy mill is not easy. He does not trust humans and was not socialized with them at all. One pup like that is enough, and he did NOT show these symptoms in foster care! We think the moving around really messed with his little head :( I need to find a dog that is well socialized with animals and humans, as when Ollie is around dogs who don't have these issues, he learns that things aren't so scary and tries to be more social. That's not to say that all rescues have these issues, or even that puppies from breeders do not - just that the risk is higher in rescues as they've often been thru hell. I will rescue again one day, just not this time.

No papers. Mom looks like a yorkie, but dad looks more like a shih tzu cross. They are cute.. but too expensive. If they lowered the price to $500 I would consider it.

They are ADORABLE puppies! but don't look to yorkie to me....which is perfectly fine...but for $700.00 or even $500.00? noo I wouldn't...

I have have 2 reg. puppies and didn't pay that much for either, just takes some time and patience....

I understand what you mean about issues in dealing with puppy mills. Both of mine are puppy mill dogs. Chip was sold to us by a broker at 7 1/2 weeks, so imagine how old he was when he was ripped apart from his mother. The poor thing didn't even know how to chew food, let alone being socialized with humans. The day we brought him home he would sit in the corner farthest from us and shake... of course he's improved a lot since then, but he doesn't trust people he doesn't know, at all. Smokey came along and was a rescue. He was a puppy mill dog that had been switched from home to home to home and was 6 months. He has his own set of bad anxiety issues in being left alone, but loves people and dogs. Since we brought Smokey home, Chip is more social with people - cautious, but more social. My point in telling you all this, is that maybe if you get a dog that is very social, maybe Ollie will learn to come out of his shell a little bit. It worked for Chip.

try checking out Craiglist in your area....a lot of people are having to rehome their pet almost everywhere....due to foreclosure and what not...it sucks that in this day and age rental properties have pet restrictions....i would take my time in finding the ONE although i am like you really have these impulsive urge to get whatever right then and there..but bringing home another furbaby is a lifetime commitment and although these puppies are cute...what puppy isn't....i would be cautious about where and how they came about...due to being advertised as Yorkies when in fact there is no way they can be purebreed...and because 1st impression is everything to me...if they can make that statement then they can been seen as not honest or trustworthy...jmo...but be sure to post tons of pictures of your new baby when you do bring him/her home..hehe

Not a yorkie, obviously, but cute as a button and the right size. And older too (almost a year) so you get the added benefit of training already long under way. He was bought to mate with another shih tzu, but the breeding didn't go well so they have decided not to breed again. They also breed golden labs I think, so they have their hands full.

I am nervous about the whole thing.. I've already asked the most obvious questions - why they are selling him, is he good with dogs, cats, kids, and people (answer is yes to all, and he especially loves people, which is important). I plan to ask to see where the dogs live - where they are bred, and raised. I also plan to bring Oliver (he will stay in the car with my mom until I decide if it's even worth them meeting), so that we can see if it's a good match for the dogs after we see if it's a good match for me.

I'd LOVE some advice on what to look for... signs it might be a BYB or a bad situation and that I should leave. I've emailed back and forth with the owner a lot since last night, and she seems very nice and really seems to love the little guy. But, I really wanna be sure.

His name is Spike.. which I'll likely change if I get him. Might be hard though as he's had that name for nearly a year. We shall see.

This dog already bred a litter with a female and it seems like the breeding went well,they had quite a few puppies,so what didn't go well.I always heard buy a puppy from the person that only breeds one kind. He is very cute,but I would queation it.

The breeding didn't go well :( That was one of my first questions. Momma had to have an emergency c-section, they lost 2 of the pups. The surviving pups all have hernia\'s. So they gave the puppies away to loving homes for free, as the pups needed additional surgery during their spay or neuter to fix the hernia\'s. So they were left with $2500 in vet bills, and no $ from the puppies. She then realized that breeding a smaller dog is a little harder than the big ones and decided to cut her losses and call it a day. Of course, I will be looking for ANY and all signs that this story is not true, but if it is I don\'t really blame her. She took care of a rescued shih tzu for a while and fell in love with the breed and decided to try it. Didn\'t work out so well.

being that he was a breeding male...i can almost guarantee that he is a marker...unless that is not a problem from you then i would say go for it. keep us updated

Just got back from meeting Spike... It was actually my dog marking all over the place, lol.. he never does that here but get him in another strange house and he pee\'s everywhere..

Spike is cute, but there wasn\'t much spark. I remember when I went to get Oliver I had that omg I have to have this dog feeling as soon as I saw him, and I did not get that with Spike. Spike was afraid of Oliver, which apparently is normal for him, but he warms up after a few days. He was playing with the other dogs there. The home is beautiful and the family is wonderful. Spike is spoiled rotten and absolutely loved my dad which is good. I told her I\'d let her know in a couple days, but I pretty much already know.. it just didn\'t feel right.
