so i got Gatsby's pedigree in the mail today and i was looking at it and i realized that in his line both his "grandparents" on his sires side was named fairviews something so i thought it might be a breeder and i would go to thear site and look at the puppies and have some fun but what i found was not fun
i guess fairview yorkies is run by a woman named teri wylie and she has a reputation for being a puppy mill and selling people diffrent puppies then what they agreed on and all sorts of stuff i know that i should be happy i got gatsby from a nice woman who while she is a hobby breeder she is very nice and careful she only has 1 litter every two years
im just upset because gatsby's sire died recently and the decided he must have got into something and poisoned himself (at the time we found this very unlikely but that is what the vet ruled in a necropsy) but what if he passed something on to my baby
and even if he did not im still very upset his "grandparents" come from a puppy mill

by the way if you have a dog from this lady will you let me know if they have health problems i would like to know

You do not have to apologize for being upset.
Let me just say the Puppymillers have a way of getting around everything. I am hoping that your pup will be fine. He is a part of your family now and all you can do is love him and be there for him.

That is why sometimes YTers seem harsh when we pound info about puppymills into people. It is not for fun, but for the health and well being of the pup, and the future owners.
Believe me, I have raised a puppymill pup, and his medical ran into the tens of thousands of dollars, and yet my beloved Milkyway died despite it all. So when I stand on my soapbox and holler at people to really check out their breeder, it is not out of spite, it is out of concern for their pups health and for their future finances. Research everything about your pup before you buy, as it will save you the heartache and grief that I, and many others have seen.

Please keep me updated on how he is doing...

I think what upset me so much was the woman i got gatsby from was very nice i am just so surprised that she would purchase a dog from a puppy mill and then breed it i just lost all faith in her and everything she has ever told me

Do not beat yourself up! You expected what you saw; a nice person who was caring and forthright. What you got was a puppymiller. Unfortunately, the economy has brought many of her kind out. They look just like us, but there main motive is the almighty green back! The animal is not looked upon as another of the wondrous creatures here on this beautiful world, but as a cash-cow.

You were trusting and honest, those are characteristics that are deeply undervalued in our world today. Please do not change that. However, now that you know, change your behavior in judging other people solely on face value. It is a hard thing to do, but you have the experience behind you, & now and you understand the game!
Make a note of this breeder, and make sure you explain what you have told me to her. No, it might not change her behavior, but you have called her on it. Now she knows that you will spread the information.

Hang in there and like I said, do not beat on yourself, we all learn from our experiences. Now you are another voice in the fight against puppmills!

on a lighter note are you a stargate fan i noticed bra'tac was one of your pet names and i have wanted to ask for a while that is soo nifty

Great idea about putting that in the regional section, that way you are giving everyone else the heads up!

LOL, yes my son is a HUGE fan; consequently so am I, as he has control of the TV clicker!!

He wanted our new little guy to have a soldiers name, and he thought that the oldest, wisest Jaffa would be perfect!

i think it is perfect my whole family is huge fans my ten year old brother wanted to go as a ori for Halloween one year sadly i have not got to see universe yet i broke my tv and never got a new one

LOL, I would have loved to have seen him dressed up as an Ori...toooo funny!
Universe is excellent, my son ( and me as well) are addicted! Which I cannot really complain about as he only really watches three shows, and of course they are all on SyFy: Universe, Caprica, and Sanctuary. So that is about 3 hours a week if that, so no whining here!

You definitely need a TV! Perhaps a birthday coming up....?

Just have to say I'm a big SG fan myself. So was my BIL, when my sisters youngest was born he wanted to name her after Daniels wife Sha're, they settled on it as a middle name. A freind of mine was also a big fan as was her hubby, when she was pregnant he wanted to name the baby Tel'c. Luckily it was a girl,lol.

I bought my 1st baby from a puppy mill, and I love her to death. I did feel bad about doing it after I learn the facts but what is done is done and I don't regret doing it. You tried to do what was right and that's all that matters.
I know your more mad about feeling betrayed but that's not going to solve anything. Byt he way, your baby is beautiful

Thank you, i think what upset me most was i knew the warning signs and if i would have walked in thear and for one moment even considered she was selling puppymill dogs i would have turned around and walked out deposit or no but she seemed like a nice lady and only had two puppies and a mom and dad in her home and i walked thew her whole yard and was being very nosey and i saw nothing that made me think puppy mill im very upset to learn she fooled me

i have had a lot of puppymill experiences, fooling you is part of their job. They are good at it! plus having a husband who doesn't understand or i shoudl didn't understand was hard for me to find a good breeder. Luckily when I got Karma it was from someone who wasn't a breeder of any sort. I went to look at a cairn pup a few months back with my best friend. She said she raised her litter indoors, I had assumed she meant she only had that breed and that litter and it was in her house. When I searched other listings under her name there weren't anyother dogs so I thought okay cool..when i got there, she wouldn't let us near her "kennel" but we coudl see the runs out both sides of the building..and she had 100s of dogs!!!!! omg two or three in each "run" and about 10 different breeds we could see.. what she meant by indoors was in the kennel! she had brought the pup out to the driveway with papers in hand.. my bff took the papers to look at them and we both decided this was way bad when we pulled up but didnt know how to back out of it, so we were polite and i said "oh ya know she just doesnt have the personality i am looking for thanks though" and we left. my bff said she had already filled in teh buyers info with my name..she assumed i was going to buy it! no way!
anyway i think you are very right to be very upset and venting is perfectly alright!!!!! i understand your pain. another lady's site I was looking at for yorkies before I got Karma, i asked for a copy of the pedigree on the pup i wanted.. I wrote her a NASTY email back.. she had soooo much in line breeding! the lady said it was normal to do that to keep the breed pure and healthy and to continue good traits. I was so sick when i saw how bad the in line breeding was though.. i am not good with pedigrees but it looked like the same sire was used for the dam and the sire and the dams sire and dam.

Your breeder may not even know the background of the dogs she is breeding. She may have purchased them from another backyard/hobby breeder.

It's always important to really research a breeder beforehand which includes asking to see pedigrees of the parents, proof of health testing, etc, so there are no surprises after the fact.

if i had picked Gatsby out i would have known more about his breeder but he was a gift my grandmother and best friend went in and asked the lady to hold the girl i went in and fell in love with the boy all the decisions were made before i got there i just feel like i should have known
