| Any experience with this...wanting get Max a sister I'm thinking about getting a second dog, a yorkie. Max is truly a momma's boy and gets jealous easily. I am concerned about any behaviorial issues that may arise after bringing home a new dog. Anyone experience behavior problems with the 1st dog after getting the 2nd dog?

| I am not sure if this will help in your decision but, Jada had only been with us 3 months when we decided to get Bogie. They hit it off from the start. Jada is a mommy's girl but she is independent also. Bogie is jealous but not in an aggressive way. If Jada is on my lap or sitting next to me he just has to jump on my lap and he will tap me with his paw if he see's me petting Jada. They will occasionally growl a little at each other if they are wanting the same chewy or toy. I always let them work it out themselves and it has never gotten out of hand. If I were you I would probably get a girl. I have always heard that aggression issues are worse with two dogs of the same sex.

| Been there done that. Gracie was 6 months old when we brought Bristol home. She was very much a spoiled Mama's girl. She didn't immediately "love" her sissy. We have had to work on it but she is coming around great. She still slips once in a while and becomes a little too aggressive towards bristol but she goes to "time out" and gets scolded.Still wouldn't trade Bristol or Gracie for anything. |

| Yep; been there done that too. Only our first dog is a jealous Westie - much larger than his little sister. And he was three when we brought Lucy home. I had to give my Westie EXTRA SPECIAL attention after Lucy came home to help with the jealousy issues. I still do everything FIRST for him; he gets fed first; greeted first; out the door first . . . you get the picture. This way, he knows that he has not lost his status. We kept them separated for a few days and watched them closely. Due to their size difference and Lucy is still a pup - I don't leave them alone together when I am not here. It's fun to watch them play together and I think Ringo would miss his little sister. |

| Thanks...your responses have been helpful. I am considering getting a girl, I've actually met her. She is very submissive. Max is very dominant but I'm not sure that his aggression toward her and trying to chase her away from Mommy was him being dominant or him feeling threatened by her. I'm not sure which is worse. He is 12 lbs; she is 5 lbs and 4 years old so she won't be getting any bigger.

| Just a follow up on this thread. I did get Max a sister. She's 6 months old and they are doing well together. It was a little difficult for Max for the first 2 or 3 days but he's adjusted well once he realized she's not a threat and he's still a momma's boy.
