| ![]() My Lola sleeps in bed with us and is usually quiet all night. This past Wed. morning she started barking in bed like we've never heard before, she woke me up and I looked at the clock and it said 4:00a.m. Later that morning we're watching the local news and heard that there was a earthquake about 20 miles west of us in the Chicago suburbs at exactly 4:00 a.m. We never felt it but evidently Lola sensed it. |

| ![]() Mine did stuff kind of like that when she was a puppy, but she outgrew it. I remember once when I'd hung a suit on the door across the hall from our bedroom and she woke up in the middle of the night and started barking at it like it was a person standing there. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() My previous Yorkie would suddenly go nuts barking at the back door. I would open the door to let her out, and, always, was greeted by a faint skunk odor. There is a road about 1/2 mile away that runs along a wooded area, and skunks get run over on it from time to time. We couldn't smell it in the house, but she could. She would run out barking and snarling, check out the yard, and when she was satisfied that there wasn't an intruder, she would calm down as if nothing had happened and come back inside. When she did this, we used to say that she was "ready for fight club." One time when she went into fight club mode, I opened the door and the odor was much stronger than normal, I'm sure the skunk was about a block away. She ran out the door snarling and barking, got about 5 feet out, immediately turned around and ran right back in the house. All that audacious bravado was gone! We sure miss that girl. ![]()

Donating YT 11K Club Member | ![]() Yes animals do sense things. Sophie used to bark and growl at 'nothing' and follow things with her eyes. London also sometimes does it..it is especially scary sometimes when all the lights are out and she will go sit at the edge of the bed and just stare...not move a bone but just stare..creeps me out. lol Teddy doesn't do it though

| ![]() MING- That is absolutely amazing! yorkieusa- Bella does the exact same thing, it's quite hilarious ![]() cbhunny- We live in an apartment complex as well, so I'm thinking that that's usually the case. Last night was just especially strange-she was barking at a specific localized spot on the wall out in the hallway. Very weird!! OwnedbyJezebel- LOL! That's too funny. Bella gets into 'fight club mode' all the time! I'm sorry your previous little girl is no longer with you. <3 mizzwanned- yes definitely creepy. I've seen some weird things both at my parents' house and here at our apartment. When those incidents have happened, Bella was calm as ever, which i don't get. But the barking such as last night is equally hair-raising.

| ![]() If you really want to get creeped out, have a watch of the show "Haunted" on the animal planet. I don't like to sleep after watching that show, but I love it! haha My Yorkie Bichon mix, gets very barky when things are quiet and he's anticipating my wife coming home from work. He also barks if we leave the blinds open at night, I think the shadows outside at night play tricks on him.

| ![]() This is going to sound weird, but Bella did something very strange again tonight. I'm sitting here in the room watching tv, and notice that Bella left the room. all of a sudden i hear her utter a low growl. So i quickly get up and step into the hallway. I see her standing in the living room, her back (tail?) to me, staring at *something* to the right. The doors leading to the patio are on that side of the room, but her focus didn't appear to be in that direction, or even on anything more than 2 or 3 feet away from her. I called to her, and she didn't even budge, or break her stare. So i slowly went and picked her up, bringing her back to the bedroom with me. I shut and locked the door (home alone as hubby works nights) and laid her in my lap. She continued to bark and growl at the door, ears perked and body stiffened. She did this for at least five minutes before settling down. She awoke again a few minutes later to bark at my neighbors outside, arriving home..that bark and growl was much different than earlier and last night, and i didn't feel that it was strange. the other times, something just seemed...off. Meanwhile, Rocco is crashed out on the side of his pen, sleeping like a baby. ![]()

I apologize! I didn't mean to creep out anybody. Your statement has really piqued my interest though-you've been 'warned' by your pets before? ![]()

| ![]() bellanrocco, maybe it is time to get the apartment manager to get the pest control folk up to check your apartment. I did see other Yorkytalk members,(I apologize I forgot your names) suggest the critter connection. It is true that Yorkies are able to find rodents and your's is a young dog and maybe even interested in barking at spiders or bugs. Not saying that your apartment is infested, no, but the way buildings are made and creatures of all manners can get into buildings and do on a regular basis. Mice, bugs and snakes can crawl around inside the walls without our knowing it, but the dogs can hear them. I am sure that you are doing nothing wrong, but there is not a building made that creepy crawlies can't get into! As an example, the following is definitely not your problem, but it shows that critters who want to get in, can and will what ever way possible! I saw a tv news crew report on some poor woman in Winston Salem,N.C. who had rats swimming up through her toilet and had the tv crew there with cameras to prove it. A plummer then told them how to fix the problem with a different valve to prevent the critters from being able to get in. We used to have a neighbor up the street who's dog barked at a plastic bag that had blown against the fence. It did not belong there and had gotten there under its own power and should leave, as far as the dog was concerned ![]() My dog barks when our outside cat wants to play and dosn't matter to her that it is 2 or 3 am and 17 degrees F out...... ![]() ![]() Sitting with her and calming her when she does this, probably only encourages her to continue to do this and causes problems for anyone trying to sleep when she does bark at odd times, or for you because it alarms you and you're not sure what she is alerting to. So for the most part you need to ignore her when she does this or distract her but don't "condone" it by sitting with her and petting her, it makes her feel she should do it again, when you encourage her to do so by "calming her" afterwards. This may take a very long time and lots and lots of patience on your part. Good luck! |

| ![]() Roxie loves to bark at this one spot in the corner of the living room. There is absolutely nothing there. The wall is blank and I have checked it for insects, spiders, or anything else of that nature. It is very strange indeed.
