How small is too small to breed?? The lady 4 houses down from me has a yorkie girl also and tonight while walking my dogs around the pond out back we ran into her and she was telling me that she found a stud to breed her 3.5 lb female to.. She says he is 2.7 lbs and she is very excited for tiny pups... I tried to say that her Daisy girl is too small for breeding, But she said her vet said it was perfectly fine... I didn't push it because I didn't want to overstep... I see her almost daily...Should I say something else?? |
Whoa...way to small...have you tried to talk her into coming on YT? It probably will be to late but it is worth a shot...she could lose her little girl...:eek: |

Either this or print off a sheet from YT explaining the dangers of breeding a tiny girl......maybe even threads where tiny girls have had problems whelping. |
I really do live in a world gone mad.:( |
Do you have links to those threads? I want to help, but am hoping it doesn't just make her mad at me for butting in... But I can't stop thinking about it... |
I think you can invite her to YT before making any further decision! |
Check these!:) |
I have a lot of respect for vets, but you have to remember that they do not learn breed specific information. Some vets are small dog specialists, and even they aren't up with the latest news in specific breed information. The experts on breeding and what's safe, is the mother club for yorkies, and that's the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American. The YTCA is made up of experienced breeders, and I believe that they know much more about what's safe for a Yorkies than most vets. One of the reasons, I chose my vet is that he told me, he gets most of his knowledge of breed specific information from really good breeders. Here's what the YTCA says: Quote:

Thanks for all the good advice :) |

I would encourage her to come to YT, tell her how fun it is...... Hopefully she would see the threads on breeding tinies. :) |

Rio is only 3 lbs and I wouldn't DREAM of breeding her! I had her spayed at 8 months when she was just 2.8 lbs. Please try to persuade her to NOT breed her little girl! |

Me too and selfish because it's all about them and not their Yorkie :confused: I am beginning to believe that a lot of these people just don't care. I can't understand why someone would get a Yorkie and not learn about what's BEST for the breed before they become consumed with thoughts about having a litter of cute puppies to sell. That is what all this craziness is about. These owners can't possibly be interested in becoming an actual reputable breeder. Their actions and comments show that they are too ignorant for that! They think just having a male and female that can mate and reproduce is all that matters. :mad: It's sickening reading about it so much and I know it has to be very irritating to reputable breeders and rescuers. |

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Exactly! |
You could tell you have read so much on YT about breeding and you have been worrying about Daisy ever since she told about her plans to breed her. Print her some information and invite her to join. I would express myself in a way that shows you are concerned and care for her Yorkie and maybe she won't feel like she is being attacked. Usually, we can make much more of an impact when we approach people in a non-threatening way. Hopefully, she will see your concern for Daisy and appreciate it...hopefully.:) |
