I do have a question in regards to breeding and looking for a good breeder It says show breeders breed to improve the breed , standard is between 4-7 pds, show breeders breed for " show quality dogs" and have the occasional puppy for sale! I am very curious why Brynstar in the last year has 3) 2 pound dogs listed on puppy find that are a year old and Izzy and her litter mate that are currently 10 pds? Wouldnt that mean there is a deffinate problem with this line ? From an outsiders point of view this seems extreem for someone that breeds " show quality dogs" |

The standard reads not to exceed 7 pounds. By no means am I taking up for Brynstar. However, in breeding to improve the breed with the best representation of the breed and because the Yorkshire Terrier was comprised of so many breeds. It is possible to produce two 10 pound litter mates with a 2 pound one. No reputable breeder would sell a tiny, but would place it in a qualified home that understands the possibility exists vet bills may be incurred. Reputable breeders don't want to sell heartace. However, no reputable Breeder/Exhibitor would place a breeding dog prior to 7 months of age and the dog must have all the qualities of a show dog, with a stringent contract and expect it to be Championed. |
Thank you , I just enjoy reading about the dogs in the show and Hope to attend this weekends show in NYC since it is only 3 hours away!! I was lucky enough to attend a AKC show a couple of weeks ago and it was just amazing.!! While I was there speaking to a woman, she had a stunning puppy but she said she may not reach size to continue showing.. I thought this meant 4 pounds? So my question is when breeding show quality dogs would your goal be to bread dogs reaching weight between 4 and 7 pounds? Or can you have a dog in the ring under 4 pounds? |

You can Champion a smaller boy much easier than a smaller girl. Always remembering that the purpose of showing is to gain approval of your breeding stock. If you get to New York......you will see that most of the dogs are not on the small size, very much the contrary.... |
Actually I didnt have to be in NYC to see that, It was very different to see the dogs even in Fitchburg, they were , I guess one would call it the larger size.. But they were still small.. they were longer, and leaner and taller..They were as pretty as a picture!! They were not short and cobby and NOT " babydoll" faced thats for sure:D They had coats that not only looked like silk but felt like silk too.. after the show the people let us hold them pet them talk to them. Even the puppies had coats that were so pretty !! I guess the best thing of all is how friendly and nice the show people are. That is why I am hoping to go!!Thank you so much for explaining that to me:D |
I need to add something here on the brynstar controversy I just lost my show dog which is a brynstar dog and he was a year and a half old he was fine this morning and just killed over dead about and hour ago blu has been sent for a necropsy he was sold to me on a show and breeding contract now let's go back to the very beginning when i bought blu it was for a show dog when he was shipped to me he was shipped with an open font that was not diclosed to me until after he arrived and i called and asked steph about this and she said yes her vet had found it but neglected to call me and tell me before she shipped him she did not give me the courtesy of refusing the dog because of this problem i guess she did not think i would find it i wrote her recently and told her i had breed blu and he produced an open font pup and he was in the works to be neutered she has not returned my emails or my phone calls i am very devastated right at this moment and have no clue why my boy dropped dead i guess i will know in about 10 day's |
